  • Excellent banjolele
Size: 23 Inch Style: Banjolele
I custom paint instruments to resell through my Etsy store. This is my favorite model of concert size banjolele for overall finish and sound, and features a hand rest that many don’t have.

  • A surprising find
Size: 23 Inch Style: Banjolele
I am a professional musician and ukulele is one of the main 3 instruments I play for my job. This banjolele was purchased as a gift for my daughter (whom is also a gigging musician) but of course I had to set it up, attach the pick-up, tune, stretch, etc. I am quite literally shocked at the quality of this instrument. I have a higher-priced banjolele myself... as well as quite the collection of mid-to-high end ukuleles, guitars and basses. This thing sits well amongst them. The Velcro sent to attach the input jack is flimsy and I discarded it for a more solprice point. (The reason for the 4 stars)... but other than that I (and my daughter) have zero complaints. It sounds beautiful and is seemingly well made. No burrs on the frets, quite comfortable to play. Now to be very fair... this banjolele has only been with us a very short while- so I cannot speak to the longevity of the instrument. However I get the impression that if it's well looked after that it will last many years of live shows. The pick-up is great for live performance but if you're planning on recording with it I would use a microphone or install a better pick-up. If you're looking for a performer for shows or just something to pluck on in the down time of your life... this little guy is great for both. Especially at this pricepoint. Well worth it. ... show more

  • Beautiful Banjolele
Size: 23 Inch Style: Upgraded Banjo Uke
Vangoa make really high quality instruments. I have there 5 string Full size Banjo, and the 28 inch mini banjo, bought two of these, one for my grand-daughter. I also just purchased another one for my niece who wanted to learn Banjo but the size was to big. The one here pictures is really nice also, its a concert scale and very small, well made,It would be nice for a smaller person who wants to learn. I now have 7 Vangoa instruments and Happy with all of them. Great customer service and help when you need it. ... show more

  • Nice instrument at a great price!
Size: 23 Inch Style: Banjolele
This was the least expensive banjolele that I could find, and I am very happy with it. It's LOUD and 'plunky'; everything I hoped it would be. It may not be for an absolute beginner (for set-up issues, below), but if you're looking to add a banjo-uke to your uke collection, I can recommend this one highly. You'll want play it with a flat pick or finger picks to get the most out of it. It was delivered very quickly with Amazon Prime, and arrived undamaged with no issues. You have to install and position the bridge. To do it correctly, you can find instructions on YouTube. Once your bridge is in place, prepare for lots of tuning. The strings are knotted at the tailpiece to keep them from slipping through, and it won't stay in tune until those knots are tight. You have to tune up frequently to tighten the strings until the knots are tight. I had to do a lot of twisting just to get the strings to pitch, initially, as those knots tightened for the first time. Also, the strings need to stretch and "settle" and this took a few days or so. Once it's all settled, it stays in tune pretty well. The fret ends are nicely dressed; no sharp edges like you'd find on most inexpensive fretted instruments. The neck binding is a nice touch! The tuners are closed, sealed, and work well. The gig bag is quite serviceable. It won't protect the instrument from being knocked around too much, but is convenient for transport. The tuner works OK, but because the banjo has such short sustain, you'll have to pluck frequently for it to register the tone on the tuner. I haven't used the pickup, so I can't comment on it's sound. The pickup comes with peal-and-stick adhesive on one side, to attach it, and a binder-clip and velcro strap to keep it our of the way when playing. The pickup ends in a quarter-inch female jack for use with any stadard guitar cord. The only criticism I have is that I wish it came with a wrench to adjust the banjo head tension. I decided to loosen the head, just a bit, to bring the action down slightly. I already had a wrench that worked, but it would have been nice if one was included. If you're looking to add a banjo-lele to your collection, grab this one... totally worth the money! ... show more

  • Not the worst but not great, either--and the cost to fix it would have been more than I paid for it
Size: 23 Inch Style: Banjolele
I took this to a music shop to get help tuning it and the fellow there explained that you aren't supposed to feel sharp spurs along the edge of the neck; he said a poor drying process can cause the wood to separate from the metal. (I'm sure there's a more technical way to put it.) To repair the instrument by filing down those spurs, tightening it up, tuning it, etc. would cost as much as I paid for it (about 100). I suppose it would be fine if you're just fooling around. It's actually awfully cute and definitely not expensive for what you get, which is why I'm giving it some stars. He said it wasn't * terrible * ... just not great. Maybe good for a young kid? Then again, with those sharp spurs, maybe not! The local music shop had nice choices that were the same price point with the case, picks, etc. also included. I order almost everything from Amazon, seriously, but an instrument might be the kind of thing you want to buy local, yeah? And they will tell you about the instrument, offer tips, set it up for you, tune it, etc.--for free--if you buy from a shop. I VERY rarely leave reviews but I also very rarely return an item because of the time, cost, being super lazy, etc. This is definitely worth the effort of returning--and returns are free if you drop it off at Kohl's, which is pretty sweet. ... show more

  • Best for finger picking
Size: 23 Inch Style: Banjolele
So i listened to a few people on youtube playing this instrument and i thought it had a fun sound so i bought it. Down to the nitty gritty, There is indeed some rough edges on the fret board so keep that in mind. Both sets of strings it came with were funky and cheap, i would recommend getting better strings. The tuner does not come with a battery so keep that in mind. The picks it came with are more for a guitar than a banjo, you could make them work but go with banjo finger picks if you have the cash. Finally Its 90$ so don't set unrealistic expectations. Have fun with it if you do get it! ... show more
