  • Nice instrument at a great price!
Size: 23 Inch Style: Upgraded Banjolele
This was the least expensive banjolele that I could find, and I am very happy with it. It's LOUD and 'plunky'; everything I hoped it would be. It may not be for an absolute beginner (for set-up issues, below), but if you're looking to add a banjo-uke to your uke collection, I can recommend this one highly. You'll want play it with a flat pick or finger picks to get the most out of it. It was delivered very quickly with Amazon Prime, and arrived undamaged with no issues. You have to install and position the bridge. To do it correctly, you can find instructions on YouTube. Once your bridge is in place, prepare for lots of tuning. The strings are knotted at the tailpiece to keep them from slipping through, and it won't stay in tune until those knots are tight. You have to tune up frequently to tighten the strings until the knots are tight. I had to do a lot of twisting just to get the strings to pitch, initially, as those knots tightened for the first time. Also, the strings need to stretch and "settle" and this took a few days or so. Once it's all settled, it stays in tune pretty well. The fret ends are nicely dressed; no sharp edges like you'd find on most inexpensive fretted instruments. The neck binding is a nice touch! The tuners are closed, sealed, and work well. The gig bag is quite serviceable. It won't protect the instrument from being knocked around too much, but is convenient for transport. The tuner works OK, but because the banjo has such short sustain, you'll have to pluck frequently for it to register the tone on the tuner. I haven't used the pickup, so I can't comment on it's sound. The pickup comes with peal-and-stick adhesive on one side, to attach it, and a binder-clip and velcro strap to keep it our of the way when playing. The pickup ends in a quarter-inch female jack for use with any stadard guitar cord. The only criticism I have is that I wish it came with a wrench to adjust the banjo head tension. I decided to loosen the head, just a bit, to bring the action down slightly. I already had a wrench that worked, but it would have been nice if one was included. If you're looking to add a banjo-lele to your collection, grab this one... totally worth the money! ... show more

  • Enjoyable!
Size: 23 Inch Style: Upgraded Banjolele
Very fast delivery. Loved how well it was packaged! I have a ukulele and this banjolele is a very nice addition! It looks very nice. Easy to get set up and start playing. But, no surprise, you have to tune it several times as strings stretch, then you will be fine just tuning it once in awhile.

  • A surprising find
Size: 23 Inch Style: Upgraded Banjolele
I am a professional musician and ukulele is one of the main 3 instruments I play for my job. This banjolele was purchased as a gift for my daughter (whom is also a gigging musician) but of course I had to set it up, attach the pick-up, tune, stretch, etc. I am quite literally shocked at the quality of this instrument. I have a higher-priced banjolele myself... as well as quite the collection of mid-to-high end ukuleles, guitars and basses. This thing sits well amongst them. The Velcro sent to attach the input jack is flimsy and I discarded it for a more solprice point. (The reason for the 4 stars)... but other than that I (and my daughter) have zero complaints. It sounds beautiful and is seemingly well made. No burrs on the frets, quite comfortable to play. Now to be very fair... this banjolele has only been with us a very short while- so I cannot speak to the longevity of the instrument. However I get the impression that if it's well looked after that it will last many years of live shows. The pick-up is great for live performance but if you're planning on recording with it I would use a microphone or install a better pick-up. If you're looking for a performer for shows or just something to pluck on in the down time of your life... this little guy is great for both. Especially at this pricepoint. Well worth it. ... show more

Size: 23 Inch Style: Upgraded Banjolele
I just love this Ukulele that looks and sounds like a Banjo. When I see it in my chair I can't help but smile. It's so much fun to play. At sometime in the near future I may get better strings but for now it makes me very happy. The 1st song I'm learning to play on it is SMILE written by Charlie Chaplin. ... show more

  • this thing buzzes like a bee
Size: 23 Inch Style: Upgraded Banjolele
i went through all the setup and trouble shooting. double checked it but the 2&3rd string buzz down to the 5th fret. i checked the action and the 5th fret is higher then the 4th and the 6th. It's to bad this is very well constructed otherwise.

  • solid starting point.
really good product for the price. sturdy, well built and sounds good. do keep in mind this is an entry level product, so dont expect this to be a vintage heirloom one day, but it'll get you playing. i would recommend maybe buying a better tuner as this ones finicky, but does work.

  • Not the worst but not great, either--and the cost to fix it would have been more than I paid for it
Size: 23 Inch Style: Upgraded Banjolele
I took this to a music shop to get help tuning it and the fellow there explained that you aren't supposed to feel sharp spurs along the edge of the neck; he said a poor drying process can cause the wood to separate from the metal. (I'm sure there's a more technical way to put it.) To repair the instrument by filing down those spurs, tightening it up, tuning it, etc. would cost as much as I paid for it (about 100). I suppose it would be fine if you're just fooling around. It's actually awfully cute and definitely not expensive for what you get, which is why I'm giving it some stars. He said it wasn't * terrible * ... just not great. Maybe good for a young kid? Then again, with those sharp spurs, maybe not! The local music shop had nice choices that were the same price point with the case, picks, etc. also included. I order almost everything from Amazon, seriously, but an instrument might be the kind of thing you want to buy local, yeah? And they will tell you about the instrument, offer tips, set it up for you, tune it, etc.--for free--if you buy from a shop. I VERY rarely leave reviews but I also very rarely return an item because of the time, cost, being super lazy, etc. This is definitely worth the effort of returning--and returns are free if you drop it off at Kohl's, which is pretty sweet. ... show more
