There are several versions of propane-fired patio heaters available for on-line purchase. The UPHA is not the least expensive, but I think you get what you pay for. It is superb. With the UPHA, you get rollers for the base. With a weight in the bottom and a full propane tank, I think any heater would be difficult to relocate without the rollers. This is a big plus. The UPHA comes with a plastic box that bolts under the base. You fill it with moist sand, and the heater is more stable when the wind is blowing. With all the area at the top of the mast (burner, IR generator, and the reflector), I think the weight in the bottom is essential. A third item that the UPHA has is a rubber ring around the hole where the mast enters the base. When you need to turn on or shut off the propane when starting or ending use, You just use two hands to lift the base cylinder up the mast, then pull it to one side with one hand while using the other to operate the propane bottle's valve. The rubber ring grabs the mast and keeps the base cylinder up and out of the way. When you are finished with the valve, get both hands on the base cylinder, move it parallel to the mast, and lower it back into position. We store our UPHA heaters against the wall of the house under the patio roof. No problems so far with wind. We have used the UPHA heater while eating outside in temps below 50 degrees. Even at low flame levels, the UPHA puts out sufficient infra-red radiation to reach across a 6-person table. Assembly is not for the people who are not good with tools. The two heaters that I bought were slightly damaged in shipping, but I was able to straighten the bent parts before assembly. There are a lot of nuts and bolts with flat washers to hold it all toogether. A metric nut driver, tool not supplied that I had in my tool box, was very helpful in tightening the many fasteners. We like to enjoy our patio as much as possible, even in winter weather. So far, we are very pleased with the UPHA!

I ordered two of these at the same time. They arrived one at a time, on two consecutive days. They look the same externally, but the assembly manuals were different. Each heater has a plastic tank that you're suppose to fill with sand and attached it inside the base of the heater. It's essentially a ballast tank to make the heater more stable in the wind. The unit first to arrive had clear instructions on the first page of the assembly manual about what to do with that tank. The manual included with the second unit to arrive made NO MENTION of that tank, which was pre-attached to the heater's base. The space on the first page of the manual that contained the pictures and instructions about the tank was completely blank in the second unit!!! Had I not assembled the other unit first, I would have had no idea what the tank was for or that I should fill it with sand. This lack of uniformity is unacceptable. Nevertheless, the heaters work fine providing warm space in all directions within about five feet of the heater.

Dislikes, Top cover bent easily. did not quite put out the total heat I was looking for at the time for the garage; however, good enough, and cheaper than buying a turbo heating unit. very nice for nice spring/fall evenings to set at back on the patio.

We purchased this space heater for an outdoor patio so we could comfortably social distance while gathering with family outside. It arrived on time. The assembly instructions are clear and the parts and hardware well marked. It helps to have two people during assembly due to the height and weight of the heater. Unfortunately we couldn’t get the joint in the middle of the pole perfectly level and the final heater is slightly tilted, though it doesn’t affect performance. The heat output is good for a small area, most effective 6-8 feet from the heater. Pros: the bronze finish is very attractive; the base can be filled with water or sand for stability, and the wheels are useful for portability. Cons: The assembled product is tall and bulky to move and store. The ignition process was tricky to figure out. It could be explained better in the instructions. We thought our unit was defective and contacted customer service before finally figuring it out. Update - Changed to 4 stars because customer service has emailed us to resolve our concerns. They seem eager to offer a quality product with excellent customer support. We are enjoying the heater!

I changed my 1 star rating to 4 stars. The company sent us two new burner units and they both work. Granted, the time from original purchase until receiving the new burners was six weeks but the heaters work and they are very attractive looking. The one flaw in design is the on-off knob. Make sure when you start the unity after igniting the pilot light ands holding for 30 seconds, you must slightly allow the depressed knob to come up (but not all the way) and then continue turning counter clockwise to high. The knob otherwise seems like it doesn't turn all the way to high and the pilot light will go out. [OLD REVIEW}--Ordered two units early October for a total of $700+. Assembled them, neither worked. Turns out both burners were defective. Requested a refund. Took days for them to respond. Promised to ship two replacements burners. Said they shipped a week ago. I just checked Fed Ex shipping confirmations they provided and NOTHING was actually shipped--just labels submitted to Fed Ex.. I have requested a full refund.
