After deciding no way could Yakima or Thule be worth THAT much money, I started seriously researching alternative rooftop cargo baskets. Won’t bore everyone with detail, but over two days, and between between reviews, YouTube videos, and price point I decided to try this Tyger basket. Assembly was pretty intuitive except after complete (I thought) assembly I ended up with 2 left over O-rings. Found they belonged in a very clever place in each end of the front crossbar to prevent water intrusion. And water intrusion prevention was evidently high in the designers minds elsewhere with the rubber plugs in the tubing connecting the two halves. Anyway it looks great installed my Subaru Ascent. Even my wife who has less than zero interest in such things commented how good it looked. I got the smaller of the two sized baskets available. After I actually use it for a while, and if I find I need more space, I will have absolutely no reservations about also buying the larger of the two Tyger baskets after seeing the quality of this one. ... show more

Context: Upgraded from the small harbor freight roof basket and bought after returning hyperax iridium L which required necessary modification for fitment with 2023 Pathfinder RC rack and came with broken and damaged parts due to horrible packaging. Review: Packaging was good, nothing moving around, nothing arrived damaged inside. Build felt solid except for one possibly minor defect. The passenger side attachments at middle section was a bit large on front part of basket and a bit small on rear part. Had to awkwardly muscle it on. This makes a very minor contortion on the flushness of all 4 corners making one corner raised by a few millimeters (which couldve possible caused rattling, luckily the shims I added gave enough clearance). Im a bit of a perfectionist so install took me a little over an hour to add loctite, align, level, realign, torque, etc. Otherwise easy to handle since its pretty lightweight compared to the hyperax iridium. LOUD. Harbor freight basket was negligible in sound up to 80mph. This one gets pretty loud beginning at ~60mph. Personally, doesnt bother me too much but if you want it quiet might want to look into a custom wind fairing since this one is fairly small. ... show more

The 4runner cross bars are to low for this rack, unless you are ok with it scratching your roof. Secondly the side bars of the rack are exactly the same width as the 4runner side bars so the rack would end up resting on the plastic caps of the 4runner side bars... and sooner or later would slip or break the caps. The Tyger roof basket is sturdy and very well made. The welds go all the way around the tubing and they’re not just spot welded. Where the tubing is bent in a 90° angle, it is done without creasing the tube making it stronger. I look forward to attaching my spare tire to it and going off-road. I recently took this Tyger Roof basket on some fairly aggressive off-Road trails, it stayed secure to the roof the whole time, never had to be re-tightened down. So far it has survived a trip from S. Calif to Wash. Only had a Roto-Pax gas container on it. Eventually want to mount a full sized spare tire up there. On my Subaru Outback mileage was about the same or even better???? Not too bad to assemble. Went together even though one side cosmetically didn't match. Covered up by the flimsy plastic doo-dads. They looked like they would fall off easily, so I drilled some holes in them and nylon tied them in place. Per other reviews, used RTV on all the joints and then coated everything with the roll bar paint. Thanks guys! Also got some security bits to make it easier if I ever have to remove it. ... show more

I looked into purchasing a Yakima or Thule roof cargo basket, but both were out of budget which led me to the Tyger Auto Heavy Duty Roof Mounted Cargo Basket.
