  • A great way to carry my kayak
I used this system to transport my 9-foot, 39-pound kayak on top of my Toyota Corolla all last summer and fall and have started this summer now too. It works great! I can have the Stanely pads and kayak set up and ready to go in 15 minutes all by myself (a 57-year-old woman.) I love that it's simple, light, and really secure. One thing I did change though: the cam straps that come with it have a pad on them that made it hard to tighten enough. So I got a pair of regular cam straps to secure the Stanleys. Then I use a second pair to secure the kayak. I've been on highways at 60 miles an hour and have driven over an hour away without any shifting or trouble. ... show more

  • This Soft Roof Rack Works Great! I highly recommend it.
I have a prius and was unable to find a regular roof rack to fit. I use it to move furniture like a tall chest of drawers. The directions were clear and it was easy to set up and strap the item down securely. I had extra straps so I used 2 additional just to be extra cautious. I did a test drive going fast and stopping abruptly and the piece did not move. I drove about 150 miles and had no problems. compared to the cost of other roof racks, it was a very good value. Very happy with this purchase and I would recommend it. ... show more

  • Surprisingly sturdy!
We wanted to be able to carry a double kayak on occasion but did not have a permanent car rooftop carrier - Stanley to the rescue! Initially we were skeptical of how well it would function, but after a week of toting around the double kayak we can say it functions very well at a good price point. It won't of course take the place of a dedicated kayak carrier but will allow you to carry other items besides a kayak (ladders, long pieces of lumber, etc.). It is straightforward to install but note: we did securely strap the pads to the rooftop prior to adding the kayak, then used a second set of straps (purchased separately) to strap the kayak down. This meant the pads didn't move around or get displaced while we positioned the kayak properly. We were impressed by the density of the pads and how resistant they were to being depressed by a heavy item. So, no worries about your car rooftop being damaged. We did not drive faster than 50 MPH with the kayak so we're unable to say how this carrier will perform at highway speeds but it's a simple, low-tech, inexpensive solution to carrying long and large items if you don't have a dedicated carrier. ... show more

  • Highly Recommend! Works Great!
I bought this for transporting a 13 foot Sea Kayak (Picture). I'm in Okinawa Japan and had it shipped with no issues. Product comes with 2 straps with "easy" latch and cinch system.... 2 soft cross board pad boards as shown. What's really nice it has a storage bag for it. I was skeptical at first but had no issues hauling Kayak and was easy to use. Have not taken on the "expressway" or highway yet but the straps were solid and no movement of Kayak. Some of my friends liked this better over their expensive Thule rack system given the soft boards that don't move with the Kayak. I will say that I played around with the straps and finally figured out a good method. Make sure there is no slack in straps and I "double" wrapped around. I also cinched down on strap lever outside the car as to pull it tight as possible. The video that you see on Amazon wasn't very helpful on instruction but had to work with it. As you can see this universal rack system works well and I have a Honda Mobilio (Japan model) with the sliding doors. No issues working with that. When I go back to States will keep this system for paddle boards and surfboards, although can only haul one at a time but given the cost and simplicity good to use. ... show more

  • Superior in Every Way
This was my third padded roof rack that I purchased. There wasn't much information online about this product and the description did not do it justice. When I noticed the price was much higher than other similar roof pads, I searched online until I found out why. All of the other products were either too short or not well made and ripped apart. I found more information about this product on the Stanley website. They did not have many details either but what I found were very detailed pictures showing the quality. I also found the length and width of the pads. This was unlike anything else I have found. First it comes in its own heavy canvas drawstring bag. The straps were twice as thick than any other one I ordered and the buckle had a very thick pad to protect from scratching my van. The pads were extremely well made. The padding is thicker, the canvas is a better grade and the metal loops to tie down other things like ladders and lumber. There are also some anti-skid pads on the underside which protects the roof as well. What really sold me on this was the length of the pads at 39 inches wide. These were as wide as my roof. So it will accommodate my 36 inch wide kayak with no trouble. I would say this is the best padded roof rack available and for the extra money I spent, it was well worth it. ... show more

  • If you don't have a built-in roof-rack this is for you!
I use these rails almost exclusively to transport my 50 lb kayak. They are extremely sturdy and easy to take on and off (I do not leave them on because I read in prior reviews that they can become saturated and deformed if they get rained on. This has not happened to me personally, but I do not want to risk it). I have had them for a few months now and they are still in the same condition as when I bought them. Great value for the price, I would definitely recommend these! ... show more

  • It's OK
It was easy to put on but the straps that it comes with are weak. I had tighten it and it came loose when driving at speed of 35 MPH. I had to pull over. My item almost fell off the car. The strap needs a better clamp.
