The lanterns are just as advertised. If directions are followed, they will be an excellent addition to walkways, patios, other outdoor spaces. The hardest part for me was getting the initial spike into the ground. Can't really use a hammer to pound it in bcs it is plastic. I’ve had these Tomcare solar lights for 2 years now, and 3 of the 4 are still working normally. The 4th has a problem with the switch, where it won’t stay on; if you physically hold the button down, it will light up, but as soon as you let go, it turns off. I’m guessing something mechanical in the button, that locks the switch in the on position, has broken. Too bad because the light still works, otherwise. I’m tempted to open it up, to see if I can find a way to permanently complete the circuit, since I never turn these off, anyway. The lights are very nice, with a very realistic appearing “dancing flame.” I wish they were a little brighter, though, as they don’t cast light on the surrounding environment like a real flame; in the dark, you kind of only see the lights, without much of a surrounding glow. Another improvement would be to add a randomizer to the dancing pattern, as if you stare at the lights for a few seconds, you’ll begin to notice the repeating pattern of the flicker. These are the best LED torch lights I’ve found so far, and may buy another set, although the long term durability is a question. Tomcare, if you’re listening, here’s a suggestion that would take your lights to the next level: incorporate an ultrasonic mister in the top of the unit, with up firing LEDs. This would create a realistic glow and smoke effect to complete the realism! On party nights, the user would just add some distilled water to “fuel” the effect. Only downside is that the solar panel would need to be relocated, perhaps to an external unit with a larger battery. ... show more
