Rusted, stuck 10mm turbo bolt on my F350 diesel. Difficult to get at due to location, access required swivel joint at a fairly severe angle. Penetrant oil, torch etc. broke a 6 point socket, tried another 6 point socket but bolt head was slightly rounded by then and the socket couldn't grip the bolt enough to extract it. 10mm from this set broke the bolt free within 10 seconds. I used it along with a 16mm offset claw socket on the outer hex portion of the extraction socket, still needed a flex joint but at less of an angle. My next plan had been to try to cut the head of the bolt off with a die grinder/cut off wheel (which I would have had to purchase). No damage to the extractor socket. I hope to never have to use this set again but even if I don't it still will have been worth it to me for this one agonizing task. ... show more

Had tried a different kind of stripped bolt remover that worked if the bolt was a little damaged but if the bolt was pretty much round it was useless. However this kit worked great and did the job easily.

    • Screw extractors don't work
I bought this set to deal with a couple different problems while refurbishing my deck recently: deck screws that had stripped Phillips heads, and a large lag screw from which the hex head had broken off. The set took care of the lag screw issue with no problems. However, I did have to use a couple work-arounds to be able to use the extractor. First, the hex head on the extractor is an odd size--I wasn't able to find an SAE or metric socket that fit it, so I ended up using a large adjustable ("crescent") wrench, which worked fine. Second, when I was through extracting the lag screw, the extractor had embedded itself so firmly into the screw's metal, that the screw seemed almost welded to the extractor. The kit comes with a center punch that's supposed to be used to hammer stuck screws out of the extractor, but when I tried to use the punch, I found that it didn't fit (too big) through the hole in the extractor that's meant to accommodate the punch. Fortunately I had a drift pin which DID fit, and along with a hammer, I was able to remove the stuck screw. Next I tried removing some 3-inch deck screws which had stripped Phillips heads. I followed the instructions in the user manual, but was only able to successfully remove one of the five screws. After trying several times, using different sized drill bits (included with the kit) and the matching screw extractors, I saw that the metal on the extractors was so soft, when I used them, the screws' metal just wore down the metal on the extractors, making them useless for any further use. I still gave the kit 2 stars because I think the bolt extractor portion of the kit is good, in spite of the couple shortcomings I wrote about above. You might want to look at more professional-oriented (expensive) screw extractors, though, because the ones in this kit are basically useless. ... show more
