Tap handles are JUNK

In a nutshell, this is a really cheaply built Chinese kit. The taps are ok but the dies are basically useless and will destroy the first 2-3 threads on steel bolts trying to get them to start. I was using them to chase the threads on used bolts.

Lots of tools for the money, obviously not top quality, but still worked fine on aluminum.
I needed to make some new holes in an aluminum wall mount for a camera, they used M4 0.7 screws. When I got this kit, I was a bit skeptical since the tap for the M4 looked a little rough and inconsistent... the bigger taps looked better, but M4 is pretty small. But I gave it a go, using cutting oil, and it DID work to make holes my screws could go into! Keeping in mind I knew I was using these on aluminum, which is fairly soft as far as metals go. MAN! The millennial with the bad review cost me a few days researching. I never post reviews!!! I’m not a machinist. You don’t have to be to tap holes. Pressure washer electric start kit, from eBay, required holes to be tapped. 5 holes in aluminum motor and 3 holes in steel flywheel. 6mm tap and handle is 11$(Cheapy) It’s like the other review said. It’s very simple. Drill right size hole, use tap fluid, turn til resistance then turn backwards the same amount. Keep inching along until done. Great for the money but...
This is a great deal for the number of pieces that you get, both English and Metric. However, you get what you pay for so if you need to use these a lot or need to tap tough material, you may want to go with a better quality set for more $. I wanted a full set for home for tapping plastics, 3D prints, soft metal and to clean up existing threads. This works great for that. And it has most of the smaller thread sizes... I tried to tap a few holes into some steel gears for work. It was difficult and the tap broke on the second thread. I got an industrial tap from McMaster and it went through like butter.

Not the highest quality
I bought this set because it offered both standard and metric in one bundle at a reasonable price. On the first use, after drilling two appropriate sized pilot holes (5/16), I tried to tap a 3/8" thread into a piece of mild steel which was tedious, and the handle for the tap started to crack. Since I needed to make two holes, I took the work piece and the tap I used to a friend's house, and he quickly and effortlessly tapped the 2nd hole for me using HIS tap. Quality counts.
