I love this device. The app allows me to easily set temp thresholds that are equally easy to read. You can chart the entire cook. I don't use the magnet much but it does hold well. I have some issues cleaning the device, especially on the black end. It's been great for 3 years but it stopped charging to 100%, only to 50% and would discharge in minutes. I wrote TempSpike about the issue and they offered suggestions. When those did not work, they sent me a brand new device at no cost. I had an issue with a wired probe about 5 years ago, wrote them about the issue, and they sent me a new probe then too. The support and customer service is EXCELLENT!!! I have several friends that smoke too and if I haven't already told them about these devices, I sent them as gifts.

I have used the TempSpike on at least a few dozen cooks now. Grilling Steak and Chicken, I have also done a low and slow Pork Butt on the smoker. The app is pretty easy to use, if you can use your smart phone, you will figure it out. The range is good, no issues going from the deck to around the house. I have compared the temperature accuracy to another brand thermometer (costs about $30 more) with very similar results. I have not had any issues grilling at 550deg and the battery life held up fine for a 16hour smoke at 225deg. Good device, I've had it for 6 months and now that Summer is here, it's been getting a good bit of use.

Purchased in Nov 24, used a couple of times, then not during the rest of winter. Recharged yesterday and I found the spike only registered if the booster was plugged in to power. Called their support line. The person I spoke with was a native English speaker who answered with no hold time. He almost immediately identified that the booster battery had failed. "I'll send you another one". No hassle. I did not have to repeat anything. Just the Amazon order number was all I needed. Wow! That's impressive customer support. The probe works well and is accurate compared with my instant read. Works in my airfryer. 6/22/25 Cooked a rolled turkey breast in our airfryer. The Tempspike worked perfectly, cooked the turkey at 350 degrees in 45 minutes instead of the two hours we usually use in our oven. It's a great product. We would have had no clue how long to cook without it.

I really had high hopes for this. In the beginning it sort of worked but it had trouble pairing with our phones and the alarm would go off when the meat wasn’t even close. Eventually I just got tired of trying to use it and tossed it in a drawer for a while going back to my accurate wired old school thermometer. I decided to try to give it another try but this time it was completely useless. Updated it but then it was impossible to connect, it kept giving error readings and absolutely would not hold a charge and was just overall frustrating to use. Gave up and tossed it. This was a while ago so hopefully they can work out whatever bugs are going on.

This thing is great for my smoker. I no longer have to try and pass 2 probe wires through the grommet in the side. The only issue I have is that the battery doesn't last long enough. Sure, it lasts the length of time the brisket is in the smoker, but it goes dead during the cooler rest. It needs maybe 2-4 more hours of battery life. The app is nice, but needs work better integrating with Android. The probe reached its setpoint while I was sleeping, and the app didn't notify me. Yes, I've put it on the list of apps allowed to send notifications during do not disturb. The app was open when I went to sleep... Android closed it out. I got lucky that I woke up at 4am and got a notification when I opened the app back up. Surprise, it past the set point probably 30 minutes ago. The other complaint I have is that it's Bluetooth instead of WiFi. Need to run to the store during a cook? Prepare for the app to scream at you that it's lost connection.

I was impressed with the ThermoPro TempSpike right out of the box. This is an attractive and solidly engineered product. The app is easy to set up and pairing was flawless. The charging station took less than an hour to reach full charge, and the probe took a little over 5 hrs. The app is straightforward and seems to do everything that I could possibly need. Though, I wish the app used a numeric display for the battery levels, rather than two tiny icons. I’ve had no issues with the range, although I live in an apartment so I’ve never tested this beyond 50-100 feet. The critical test for me was accuracy. I recently bought, and returned, the ThermoPro TP902 because of accuracy issues, even though I really liked everything else about this unit. I did limited testing of the TempSpike by placing it in my tabletop Wolf convection oven alongside a trusted thermometer. I checked temperatures in 5 degree increments from 140 to 200F, and found good agreement between the two TempSpike sensors and my other thermometer. I’ll eventually test the ambient sensor at higher temperatures, but I bought this mainly to use in a smoker operating at 225-250F. A couple of things to consider. I found that when I ran my temperature test the ambient sensor response time lagged the internal sensor and it often took 5-10 minutes for the two sensors to stabilize and reach agreement. I really didn’t expect insta-read performance, so this shouldn’t be an issue for long, slow cooks. The downside to the internal sensor is that it can only be used for thick items due to the large diameter of the probe. Though, I’m not certain this is a valid criticism. Thin meats, vegetables, etc. cook very fast, so if you know your grill/oven temperatures you probably don’t need a constant-read thermometer and would be better off with insta-read. The only possible issue I can think of with this thermometer is the longevity of the two internal lithium batteries. Namely, how long before the batteries can no longer be reliably charged? What happens then - can the unit be serviced or is it necessary to buy a new one? So far I’ve never seen this issue addressed. This is a very cool product so I only hope that it will withstand many years of use. Bottom line - so far I’m very impressed with this product from ThermoPro and would enthusiastically recommend it to others.
