  • Really nice, but some modifications were in order
Size: 5-Gallon
I wanted to have 1) real plants, and 2) teeny fish and shrimp. Since this filter can also be used for a 10 gallon tank, it was too much for what I wanted -- chili rasboras. The filter ended up sucking in two of the fish I just bought. I turn the flow way down (there's an almost invisible slider near the bottom), cut a foam paint brush in half length-wise, then glue-gunned it over the intake. And yes, I did some research before I did this. Regarding the lighting -- while it's fine for gneral illumination, plants need more. So I purchased a SEAOURA Led Aquarium Full Spectrum Tank Light. Then I wrote to the store because the light's nice, but the instructions were indecipherable. I actually rewrote them and sent them to the store. Don't know if they'll use them. Maybe I'll post them on the other review. THEN (are you still with me here?) the top was cut open so that I could just place the light on top. It fits very nicely, and I'm happy with the result. Overall, it's a nice little tank; just needed a few tweaks. ... show more

  • Perfect for a on the counter fish tank! Only thing is the lid doesn’t fit that well.

  • pros vs cons
Size: 5-Gallon
CONS: lid doesnt stay on quite right. its all plastic feeling. i dislike the haunting cold color of the included light. It came with a hairline crack in base from shipping. IRREGULAR SHAPE MEANS REPLACEMENT LID OPTIONS ARE LIMITED. its never reccomended to move a full or partially full aquarium, but i especially dont reccomend to do so with this tank. DOES NOT INCLUDE HEATER. The included filter is too strong for betta or shrimp, but what the hell else are you putting in a 5 gallon? PROS: it makes only a little bit of noise. If youre bothered by mechanical buzzing like that of a fridge then you'll want to swap the included filter. tank looks good, and is a good height and width for a couple nice aquarium decorations. Included light is bright and connectors for cables all worked & fit well. The space on the lid made room for the light, filter, 2 heaters, and tubing for sponge filter. overall: I got this on a very low sale price, and I would reccomend others ONLY do the same, or better: save up to get a good glass aquarium from your local fish store. ... show more

  • Lid is wonky, filter is a little loud, but good for beginners
Size: 5-Gallon
The media could not be loaded. I've had this tank for about 48 hours now. My small betta really likes it! It's a good size, but does take up room. There is a lot of space to fit decorations inside of it. At first, I was wary about the filter because my fish is very small, and the current does toss her around a bit, but she seems to be getting used to it, and the filter makes a huge difference, so I think it's probably worth it. If you put enough plants/decorations in the tank, the fish can find little spaces to hide where the current isn't felt. I don't like that my betta has taken to hiding behind the filter though; I've seen reviews for other filters (not for this one) where the betta gets stuck in between the suction cups on the back of the filter. Haven't had that problem yet, but I wish there wasn't as much space behind it. The filter is a littttttle loud. I wanted to turn it off at night, but all the fish care websites say that's a bad idea, so I guess I'll get used to it. I love the LED light that comes with the tank, it makes it really pretty. Other than that, the lid IS wonky, as all the reviews have stated. My fish is so small that there's no real chance she'll try and jump out, but one wrong move and the lid can fall into the tank. I've also found that when the lid is on, it creates condensation in between where the water stops and the top of the tank. I don't love that, but it's helpful when I'm trying to heat it up. All in all, I am liking this tank. I think it's a good little kit for beginners. It's true that my betta seems much happier with all this room--she went from one gallon to five. I am giving her the life of luxury. ... show more

  • If you have a betta and are on a budget, I recommend this tank.
Size: 5-Gallon
I first bought this tank two years ago. It's a fairly cheap plastic tank but it has all the essentials that you need, minus a heater for tropical fish. I had first gotten this as a quarantine tank/spare tank for any sick fish and it sat empty for the majority of those two years, but am currently using it to house a betta I got yesterday. The lights aren't the best thing in the world, and I had to tape them to the lid in order to secure the wiring, but they are decent for a kit like this. Don't use a glass-suction thermometer! I found that the plastic warped around the suction cup of the thermometer and that was permanent. I found that pretty strange, but it isn't a huge disruption enough for me to buy a brand new tank. The filter works quietly but is a bit strong for a betta so I will be working on buffering it to slow the flow. It IS adjustable and has a slider on the bottom of the filter! The filter replacements are cheap on Amazon. I like that the length is much more than the height and depth of this tank. This gives your fish lots more longitudinal swim room while also keeping it compact enough for a desktop environment (this tank sits on my desk with minimal space). I personally don't like that the curved surface kind of magnifies things inside, but I DO like how it gives you a clear and mostly unobstructed view of most of the swimming area in the tank, so it is still enjoyable to view. It isn't too obnoxiously curved to distort too much so I still think it's a 5 star tank. I've owned many glass and acrylic tanks of many shapes and sizes; Overall, I recommend this tank for someone on a budget as it's a good value for the price point. ... show more

  • Good little tank
Size: 5-Gallon
Great beginner tank! The filter and light are easy to install and it's been fine so far. One star off because the lid is SO thin and fragile.
