Let me tell you something about my favorite local break: most days in the gulf it is pretty mellow with the occasional surprise swell. On those days you watch the report all day and any available cams. On those days when the seasonal swells are firing, you call in sick to hit the surf spot! Used a couple times to drive down to Mexico to surf. They held the surfboards well just made some noise if you go over 60mph. Put them on my 2012 Volkswagen Jetta.

I had already gotten a decent leash from Ho Stevie, so I knew of the name when I was looking for some temporary racks to use on a rental car, while my truck was in the shop. The Ho Stevie racks came through, and then some. After a little getting used to, using the video tips that had been thoughtfully supplied, I was able to set them up in about five minutes. The straps and the clamps seem of good quality. I put my 10 foot longboard on the car with these racks and drove at highway speed, including over a high bridge, without any problems. I don’t know that I would want to carry my longboard across country with them, but for just going to the beach, these racks are more than adequate, and very affordable. Worked well with my convertible. I was traveling about 4 hours on the highway to the beach. The straps do vibrate if you’re going faster than 50 so it did make me nervous. I did stop twice on the way to just check to make sure everything was still secure. Board stays secure, but the straps make indentations into the side of the board if it’s a foam top. ... show more

I was hesitant to even try doing this on my own but the video really helps and once you do it the first time it's super easy to use. Holds my paddle board great. I am not that strong and thought I would have issues getting this installed tightly but it's super easy to use and doesn't take much strength to make it work which is perfect for me. ... show more

    • Buckle is too weak
It was affordable so I guess you get what you paid for. But at around 55mph my board was almost at a 45 degree angle against the wind. The buckle kept coming loose. What I get for going the cheap route.
