  • Were a better value...
These are good, solid, generic gutter mounts. Can be mounted in a high or low position which is handy depending upon your application. Pics show the higher mounting position. Ex. Roof rack for 95 Dodge van. Price increased recently. Almost $25 each is a lot for a small amount of bent, painted steel... They do do the job...but are an expensive option (IMO). ... show more

  • An excellent clamp and appears very strong.
I bought this to replace a bad clamp. That was an excellent choice. This clamp works great. This appears very strong, clamping is great and the hole patterns matched. A good buy indeed.

  • They can securely hold a lot of weight (I can stand on top of my steel rack and there is no flex) and are easy to assemble
This is the finest-cheapest set of 4 Roof Rack Gutter Mounts available. They can securely hold a lot of weight (I can stand on top of my steel rack and there is no flex) and are easy to assemble. I painted mine with bedliner spray paint and they look great. It was really hard to install the bottom bolt/nut but I think that is just because of the shape of my 98 Montero's roof line. It is very steep and tall compared to most vehicles with a rain gutter so there is hardly any room to get your fingers or a wrench behind the Surco mount to secure it. But I can't fault Surco for that since these are for a universal applications. ... show more

  • Good enough.
They're nice and sturdy, they do what they're supposed to, but there's a design flaw. For 90% of you this won't be a problem but because my raingutters are so far down, it's impossible to get a wrench behind the bracket to tighten that final nut. The bottom part of the bracket should be recessed in the back to keep the bolt in place. I'm sure it's not a problem on most vehicles, mine is a 1987 Mitsubishi Montero and has a different roof. ... show more

  • Inferior design and bolts could compromise safety
Pros: fits most cars with rain gutters Cons: cheap bolts that shear off when tightened too much; bottom bracket bolt for rain gutter mounting spins freely from behind which makes it near impossible to tighten; no washers were included and some bolt heads almost pulled through the brackets. Application was 1988 Toyota 4 Runner. I just wanted some cheap surf racks. I've built custom surf/cargo racks before using reputable towers, and thought these looked OK. I am an experienced automotive mechanic with extremely high technical aptitude and don't mind taking on a project. I used 3/4 steel tubing from Lowe's and spent $30 on hardened steel bolts to replace the inferior ones that came with it. I wouldn't trust any semi-heavy load with these racks. Maybe just a surfboard or couple 2x4s from the hardware store. I definitely wouldn't get on the freeway or above 45 mph with anything important on the roof. Plus if it comes dislodges, you could cause an accident or injury. I don't recommend these towers, please spend the extra money on a set of real towers from Thule or Yakima. ... show more

  • Ford e350 XLT Install
I'm using these on a 2014 Ford e350 XLT. They work perfectly. I'll be ordering 2 more sets to complete my roof rack. I used 1" x 1" steel tubes for the crossbars. The cross bars attached on the top of the Surco GM100 Gutter Mounts with 1/4 bolts. The cross bar in the middle of var room are about 4 inches from the room. They look great and I am looking forward to adding the rest of the mounts and crossbars soon. ... show more
