  • One year follow up review
This machine is fantastic. I read all the reviews on this chipper and watched many YouTube videos. The people who did not like this chipper expected to much out of it. This is a small chipper, but does a great job if used correctly. It says up to 3 inch in diameter but I feel 3 inch is really pushing it. I found around 2 and 1/2 inch is about max for this unit. The videos show people just throwing the branches into the machine and it stalling the engine. You can do that with the smaller branches but with the thicker ones you need to feed them in a little at a time as to not stall the engine. What I mean is to hold onto the branch and let the chipper eat a little of the branch then hold back so it wont try to suck it in then give it a little more and it will eat it with no problem. I bought an hour meter on Amazon to keep track of the hours and changed the oil at 5 hours and now I have almost 9 hours on it with no problems at all. I watched a video where one guy was complaining that the adjustable shoot on the end of the discharge end keep vibrating loose and falling down. Well just tighten the bolts! I watched the video and he was chipping and you could watch the nuts and washer just fall off onto the ground due to not being tight. All the negative reviews I read had something to do with improper use or trying to get it to do more than it is made to do. In another video the guy unboxed it and started using it and said he was very impressed with the unit but he was also just throwing some larger branches into the chipper and stalling the machine many times. He gave it a good review in the end. Then he posted a new review that was a do not buy review because he bent the shaft and cutting drum due to his improper use, IMO. This machine works great when used within it's limits. I also stalled mine about 3 times and figured out how to feed it and have not stalled it after that. I think it just comes down to understanding the limits of the machine and basic common sense. FIVE STARS FROM ME! Still Five stars. This chipper has worked flawlessly without any issues. I now have 52 hours on this chipper and the only thing that has happened is the welds on the feeder shoot which the manufacture calls the feed bin had cracked. I emailed them and was asked to send a explanation of the issue and a couple of pictures. I was in contact with Sandra and she was very professional and helpful in addressing my issue. I sent her the items requested and they are sending me out a replacement part at no charge as we speak. This is a great company that cares about there customers. Although this machine is excellent for what it can do, I would have bought a larger chipper but this was in my price range. I would highly recommend the Super Handy or Great Circle USA . ... show more

  • Exactly what I need.
I have more than 50 fruit trees and a large garden. I need a good wood chipper to turn my garden waste into mulch. This machine does the job much faster than my less powerful electric one. I like it because (1) it’s smaller than what I expected, which means it needs very little space in my garage;(2) it’s very easy to assemble and use;(3) it is very powerful and can turn a large pile of garden waste into mulch very quickly. What it needs improvement is that the “kick back” sometimes when the branch is too short and the diameter is larger than one inch and harder wood. You need be careful and always standing on the side of the machine. There is no problem with soft wood such as fig tree branches or any thin branches. ... show more

  • Fine little chipper — after some complications
Here is a revised review, after submitting the one below. I had originally given a Do Not Buy recommendation, after the drive shaft broke and I got little to no support from customer service. I called customer service again, and spoke with the very helpful Blake, who arranged to have a new engine shipped, including of course a new, improved drive shaft. Thank you Blake! Other than that issue, I am overall very satisfied with the performance of this chipper. As with any chipper, don’t overdo it by feeding it anything over 1 1/2 inches, despite its nominal 3 inch rating. **** Original review below **** This was a good little chipper — until it wasn’t. I have used it probably less than 20 hours, rarely feeding any branches more than 1.5 inches. Then suddenly, for no apparent reason, the drive shaft broke. Just sheared right off. This is such a major malfunction that the whole thing has to be junked. The engine is such an off brand that the guy at the local small engine repair shop had never heard of it. (He had also never heard of a drive shaft shearing off like that.) Even if I managed to find a new drive shaft, it would require a major disassembly of the engine to attach it. Of course the whole thing is out of warranty, as I’ve had it for 1.5 years. Customer service, as others have experienced, is basically non existent. I don’t know what kind of pot metal they think chippers can be made of. Take a hard pass on this one. Coming soon, engine and all, to a recycle yard near me. ... show more

  • Chipper broke in a little under a year and under 30hrs of use…
Buy this chipper at your own risk… No warranty, very limited support worth speaking of (at least in my case). A late Update (but late is better than never) 01-18-2022 SuperHandy finally did send a replacement engine, I received it sometime in late August / early September of 2022 but nothing else that I needed… so I still need replacement rotor and blades to get it back working again. I sent SuperHandy’s Amazon seller a message with an update I’ll see if I get any response. At the moment it doesn’t seem like SuperHandy support really cares at this point. —— Update 08-16-2022 On May 3rd 2022: Finally got a hold of Super Handy aka. Great Circle USA (parent company) customer support which gave me quite the run around of measuring parts, taking pictures and double & triple checking that I actually need certain parts… anyway after a whole lot of back and forth they said they had to wait for a customer return to get the parts I need after which they created shipping label and never sent anything. On July 13th 2022 they closed the case having sent nothing as of yet. ——— Update 04-23-2022 Added video showing the engine turning to show how bent axle is. Took off the drum and found a major twisted crack on engine axle (added pictures). — Assembly wasn’t to bad though the hardest bolt to get to on the discharge chute had either a paint splatter or some burr in the tapped thread so I had to put a smaller bolt and nut through it. Bought this chipper in May of 2021. When I bought this I was hoping/expecting it to be able to process up to 3” branches without too much trouble… but unfortunately on just about anything above -2” you have to brace yourself against the machine and do it a bit at a time or you stall the engine. I was also expecting it to last long time or at least a few years… However I was putting evergreen branches through it more recently (4-2022) when it suddenly started jumping around so I turned it off to find that one of the blades had sheared off both bolts bending the engine axle (will plan on uploading a video showing the bent axle at a later time)… also did some damage to other parts as it went through. I’ve tried contacting Great Circle USA (manufacturer) all the ways I can find for warranty but haven’t got anywhere… For anyone who has quite a few branches to chip and is able to work with this chippers limitations I would definitely recommend replacing the bolts holding the both blades with at least grade 9 bolts or higher if you can find them. Pros: Usually starts on the first pull. Compact (which can be a con). Easy to change oil. Uses compact drum design (can be a con depending on what you need it for) Cons: Handles for maneuvering are way to low which makes it hard to push any distance. Have to do a lot of pull back on anything ~2” and above or engine stalls. Somewhat top heavy (mainly an issue when transporting on uneven surfaces) Sometimes the smaller twigs goes through without being totally processed (minor con of drum design) Major con: One of the blades sheared completely off making chipper unusable. ... show more

  • Don't cheap out
Funny because my first review was taken down I guess because I was brutally honest. OK so it's a barely decent machine but you're going to have to know engines if you'd like to really be able to use it. When I received the machine, I was in the middle of moving so it stayed in storage for about 1 month. When I opened it up, I could tell that this unit was used due to oil in the box and on machine. It still looked clean. There was also some gas residue inside the tank. This machine would not start. Carb cleanings, super fuel, and just time and patience. It finally cranked up. Once it ran, it was good. Once I started feeding branches, it would randomly shut off. So you have to keep starting it... The next problem was pull cord, broke within 2 days of machine being open, don't even bother trying to repair. Just buy a new one off Amazon. It cranked up has been running ok. Just random shut offs. My final thought. The machine is cheap. It doesn't stay anchored down if it runs. But for the price and I'd you're handy it's an ok machine EDIT: It's been over a year since using this machine. I am a property manager so I've thrown a lot of things at this and it's kept on humming. Once you get this machine running after unboxing, it's pretty decent. Fake Chinese Honda engine is just fine. It's the starting up that's problematic ... show more

  • Easy to assemble, works great!
Excellent, must have addition to our tool shed! We have acres of overgrown land with tons of bamboo and trees. We were a little reluctant to try this because it's so affordable we figured it was not going to be that great. Never been happier to be wrong! We LOVE THIS THING! We assembled it, added oil and fuel and ran it for about 12 hours. Saved a couple of runs to the dump, didn't have to rent a trailer, and ended up with a huge pile of mulch that we spread around. First time we've cleaned up the yard this well because we didn't have to worry about the green waste bins or hauling stuff away. It started on the first pull and runs great! I figure the time savings and dump and trailer rental savings will pay for it with just 1 more day of using it. It does struggle with the 2" and larger limbs, but chews up everything else. VERY SATISFIED ... show more

  • Destroyed my expectations
This little thing can chip! Got it put together, double checked my nuts and bolts, filled with gasoline, some 4 stroke small engine oil (10W-30 SAE), she started right up and ate up everything I fed her. Keep in mind what kind of wood you are trying to chip and how old it is. I chipped up aged branches that were around 3 years old, and none bigger than about 2 inches in diameter. Very impressed with how well it did and how small the chips are. Will be using to this mulch around my fruit trees, making pathways in my garden, and used as filler for my raised beds as well as compost! Let get gardening!!!! ... show more

  • Gas powered wood chipper
The chipper does work and starts every time but the input hopper is narrow and leaves get clogged in there. It also has a hard time with anything other than soft wood and twigs, as some sub 3” diameter stuff came back out the input chute so it was good that I was standing to the side. It is portable and it’s not huge but still pretty heavy. Overall it seems pretty handy for reducing the tree limb trash pile. ... show more
