Had a servo issue that made me leave a negative review, Seller was very swift in addressing the situation and sent replacement parts out. The build is very sturdy and excellent quality, and easy to assemble with instructions provided. It took me a couple hours assembling it for the first time but YouTube helps whenever you’re stuck. I suggest not to cheap out on the raspberry pi and get the pi4 if you plan on using this to its full extent. Speed is adjustable via code but do keep in mind to not exceed the parts capability. For hard wood floors plug a small rubber cap on the feet and that should help you cancel out any noise and slipping on hard wood floors.

Saw this and had to have it. Easy to assemble and works very well. My cats seemed to like it too. Uses an app to control it. Would recommend to anyone who likes to play with this type of thing.

Pretty cool, good platform for learning the basics of robotics or figuring out how to write something more autonomous. Although merely assembling the dog and using the software on their website doesn't teach you much about how the signals are being interpreted by the motors. More just how to use python. The completed dog cannot spin in place as the legs only move forward/backward and have no lateral motion, so it's limited to very wide slow turns compared to fancier robot dogs. I also got one faulty servo that did not have the complete range of motion, so I installed that one on the "tail" which is relatively unimportant. I will probably use the pi robot hat and sensors for other things later, that's where most of the value lies.

I like to update my review on SunFounder.com - my mistake on rating them with poor review - they are actually are doing a great support with my concerns, I believe, I did not allow proper time frame to let them to support my situation. This item doesn't work with the pi 5 like the seller claims. I had an old 4 laying around, so I won't return it, but sunfounder seems less than honest here.

The media could not be loaded. Pidog just seems so happy, wagging his tail and doing superman and howling and trotting tricks. I watched the assembly videos and used the paper assembly instructions too - the two together complemented each other, and the only problems were where I failed to follow the instructions, which nevertheless were really good. You do need patience and good dexterity to build it - some parts are quite small and the screws and nuts for servos can be challenging. You want to think about building it as a fun challenge, like a puzzle, not as a chore full of difficulties, and you'll have a good time. It's not a simple build - there are about 70 steps, but all the parts are there and clearly labeled. The documentation is really well done - from the hardware build to how to install & run the software. The canned example programs are fun and pidog is perky and does fun stuff. It has so many sensors and behaviors. Support is good. There's a forum for asking questions and you get an answer in a day. I dropped Pidog and broke a neck servo, and also the speaker failed so no sound initially. Sunfounder shipped me replacement parts which arrived in about 2 weeks. I've run all the examples, and I'm working through the section where you create your own programs based on the source code they give you, and I find the function examples documentation clear. I suspect there's an API doc in there somewhere but haven't found it yet. It is not a software programming course, but rather a vehicle for trying python programming in a robot. Depending on your skill level with software you may spend more or less time trying to understand and re-create the sample code they give you. I'm an experienced roboticist and I was prepared to struggle and the whole experience turned out to be pleasantly problem-free. There will be learning experiences for those not so advanced - but that's why you choose a kit like this. But be careful not to give it so someone who doesn't have the right mind-set.

While I have had some experience and training on computers I am by no means a computer genius. I purchased the Pidog knowing it would be challenging, what I didn't expect was the additional expense and frustration. Because of connectivity issues with my laptop and Pidog, I purchased Sunfounder's Touch Screen, Keyboard and Mouse for a little over $100. Only to find out that the cables provided were not all of the correct ones, so an additional purchase of some cables. Once my connectivity issues passed it was onward to assembling the Pidog. As with connectivity the assembly process required numerous visits to the online chat. The answers were basically in a very polite way "follow the instructions" however, if you repeatedly ask the question in a different way you could get some helpful information. I had issues with zeroing and calibrating and when finally started getting them resolved I got a new problem with the functionality between the computer files running and Pidog responding. This is when I decided to get a service ticket. The answer there was much like online chat "follow the instructions" if that doesn't work send us a video by loading it on onedrive. I am not Stephen Spielberg and I wasn't even sure where to find onedrive. While I will continue to "work" with "support" I caution anyone who is even a little skeptical about buying a Pidog - be prepared. Update: I sent the video but my frustration got the best of me and I called Amazon and they sent me a replacement in two days. I don’t know if it’s bad luck or a quality issue but the Robot Hat on my 2nd PiDog was defective. I emailed SunFounder support and this time they accepted my diagnosis and sent me a new Robot Hat. Ten days later my PiDog is now up and running. Still have a lot to learn about programming but at least I have a functional PiDog to work with.
