🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The DJI Avata drone has garnered high praise from users for its ease of setup, intuitive flying experience, and impressive specs such as 4K at 60 fps video quality. First-time users and drone enthusiasts alike appreciate the included goggles for an immersive flying experience, although some mention the goggles can fog up due to sweat. While the drone's performance and quality are highlighted, there are mentions of the goggles controller compatibility issues that firmware updates don't fix. Detailed cost breakdowns suggest that the 3-battery combo offers better value compared to purchasing items separately.

Pros

  • 🚀 Easy to set up and pairs up perfectly
  • 🕶 Adjustable goggles cater to those who wear glasses
  • 🚁 Exceptional flight performance with nimble and quick movements
  • 🎥 Superior video quality with 4K at 60 fps and HDR
  • 👍 Fits well for both beginners and experienced drone enthusiasts

Cons

  • 💧 Goggles can get sweaty and fog up
  • ⚠️ Firmware issues with incompatible goggles controller reported
  • 💸 The 1-battery combo may end up more costly due to necessary additional purchases

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a high-quality drone that's easy to use, offers an immersive flying experience with adjustable goggles, and comes with superior video capabilities, the DJI Avata is a solid choice. However, consider opting for the 3-battery combo for better overall value and extended flying time. Keep in mind the potential issues with goggles fogging and compatibility, but these do not greatly detract from the overall positive experience and high performance of the drone.

  • Huge improvements over original Avata
Style: Fly More Combo (3 Batteries)
All of my complaints about Avata 1 combined with the Goggles Integra have been answered. This little drone is fun to fly and is really cool when flying through tight places or low to the ground. Downsides are those you would expect - it struggles in windy conditions - but hey it is a small aircraft. Avata 1 felt like a work in progress that the bean counters said "we gotta ship it now" whereas V2 has the refinements on the rough edges of the original. Range is great, 20 minutes of "lets explore" flying is satisfying and the maneuverability is outstanding. Some "purists" complain the motion controller is a bad idea but I disagree. It is responsive and intuitive and so much less fiddly than a two joystick controller. You can enjoy flying and combined with the FPV, let's you really have some fun - even if you are just an occasional flyer. Build quality is good, video quality is excellent and you can fly pretty far away - certainly out of line of sight of an observer. No regrets. I hope they make the Goggles 3 backward compatible with the Mini 3 Pro in the future. ... show more

  • Unreal
Style: Fly More Combo (3 Batteries)
I've got a number of FPVs and other quads. This one beats them all. Extremely precise. Reasonably quiet. Easy to fly indoors, in the yard, and long range. Super good image quality, smooth and stable. Only complaint is; it is not repairable. Broke a gimbal mount and a prop guard during a hard landing. Have to send it back to DJI for repair. Glad I bought the insurance from DJI. Have sent other equipment back to them for repair. They have a facility in California. No muss, no fuss, quick turn-around. I bought bumper and gimbal guards. Will install them once I get it back from the shop. Should help with future issues. ... show more

  • Easy and fun so far
Style: Fly More Combo (3 Batteries)
Really easy to set up! Everything paired up perfectly and it’s really easy and fun to fly. This is my first drone and it’s a blast having the goggles. I was impressed I was able to adjust the lenses as I need glasses and these goggles don’t have room for glasses. But you can adjust them. The goggles get sweaty and start to fog. The drone is so nimble and quick ... show more

  • Every single interaction with this drone has been negative
Style: Fly More Combo (3 Batteries)
I got the drone 3 weeks prior to writing this review and was extremely excited to fly my first FPV drone. Little did I know the world of pain I was about to enter. Every single interaction with the drone has been negative. I have contacted customer support about a dozen times since I purchased the drone. First, the software didn't work properly so my videos wouldn't save the right way or if they did, I had to do some weird maneuvers on my phone to download them (if you are in the US you have to tun off your cellular service before you can quick transfer files from the drone. Why? I don't know, but I found out after 90 minutes on the phone with customer support), I had to figure out the complicated way DJI saves videos so that I can actually watch the video from the drone with the stabilization and without the telemetry data on the goggles. Then the charging HUB stopped working properly and one of the batteries stopped charging with the hub. 2 hours and 4 customer support interactions later I'm still trying to figure out what to do about this because DJI is convinced I can ship the battery and HUB back via UPS for inspection, but UPS refuses to ship the battery. Oh yes and the bag the drone comes with is nice but the zipper caught in the little lanyard on the inside so I had to deal with that as well. Every single time I touch the drone something negative happens, I have to deal with some issue, or something breaks. Having this drone in my life has been a net negative. I would pay money to go back in time and never purchase this. ... show more

  • A Worthy Upgrade
Style: Fly More Combo (3 Batteries)
The Avata 2 is a great upgrade from the original. I’ve experienced longer flight time, more stable flying, and although not a huge upgrade, the camera does much better in low light. I would highly recommend it. The goggles are also an improvement. Still getting used to all of the features, but I am very happy so far. ... show more
