  • I am very impressed and would recommend this mower.
Style: 4-Amp Color: Green
When I ordered this, I was a little concerned it may not have enough battery life to get my whole yard done. My other gas mower had stopped working and the grass was very long and thick. Probably about 8" inches by the time the "Sun Joe" was delivered. I charged the battery according to the instructions and it took me only a few minutes to assemble the mower. I took it to the front yard which was the worst and overgrown by four or five inches with a hill. I put the Sun Joe on high and started slow so I wouldn't bog it down or kill the motor. Turns out I didn't need high or have to go slow. In low I was able to go as fast as I could walk, and it cut perfectly. I did both the front and back and still had more than half left on the battery. I was curious and wanted to see how well it would cut the really thick brush that runs along the back of my garage. Some of that was very thick. The diameter of some was 1/2 to 3/4 inch, like small trees. Even on low it went through that like it was nothing. That would have killed my gas mower over and over. When the 'Sun Joe' gets strained it doesn't conk out it automatically jumps the motor to high. The only issue was the height of the brush. some was 6' feet high or more. To effectively handle that I would pull the handle down lifting the cutting deck to kind of get on top of it, just like you would do with any mower. Instead of slowly lowering the blades onto the brush and allowing them time to cut, I could almost drop the deck down because of the power of the motor. Since I had just bought it and was still testing it, I decided to be gentle. I kept my hand on the handle and let the weight of the mower down as it ripped that brush to shreds without any change in the RPMs or bogging down at all. I was even able to cut some of that in low. If the motor felt anything it would change itself into high mode automatically. I have three complaints. The bag is small and doesn't hold much, the wheels are made of plastic and when charging the battery, you need to keep an eye not to overcharge it. There is no automatic shut off on the charger when the battery is fully charged. That being said, it worked just fine as I put it through more in that one day than most people ever will do in the life of the mower. It took me about an hour and a quarter to finish the yard and the brush and the battery still had one green lights worth of power. I think there are 5 or 6 lights to show charge remaining. I suppose it would be safe to say, under heavy use in both low and high mode it lasts about 1 1/2 hours. The manufacturer claims an hour of battery time. That must be in high mode the whole time. I never write a review like this or this long, but I was very impressed that an electric, battery powered mower at this price would cut circles around any gas-powered mower I have ever seen. Sure, hope it holds out for a one year, two years, etc. review. This next year I am buying a couple of them as gifts for two friends that laughed and called the 'Sun Joe" a toy that their kids can play with while they are mowing their yards with real mowers. Whatever! ... show more

  • Impressive little Mower
Style: 4-Amp Color: Green
There are a lot of nice things about this little mower. There are also some drawbacks too. I'll keep it short and sweet. I'll start with the assembly. It took a few minutes to assemble. The box was surprisingly small and light. The only issues I had, as seen in my pictures, It had a rivet that was not popped. fortunately, I have a pop rivet gun. Also, on the handle area the screw heads were rusted, odd but, oh well. It takes anywhere from 4 to 5 hours to charge. If you have a large yard, don't expect to finish it all on one charge. The clipping will fill the bag fast, it's pretty small. The height adjustment for the wheels can change when you hit any bumps in the yard, so you need to pay attention to the cut. That stuff aside. It's quiet, and VERY easy to maneuver. It's more like taking a nice walk than cutting the lawn. It will go into a higher cut speed automatically when hitting thicker grass, make sure you release the handle to reset to normal cut speed. In closing, Perfect for small yards, okay for larger ones as long as you plan it out. Front yard in the morning, back yard in the evening. Happy cutting! ... show more

  • Battery life is “meh”
Style: Pro Version Color: w/ Rear Discharge Chute
I used to live in the city and had a very small yard. Back then, I had a Sun Joe plug-in electric mower which suited my needs very well. It did a great job on my small lawn (although, to be honest, the cord was often a nuisance even on a less than 1/4 acre lot). A few years ago I bought a house in the country with a beautiful 4 acre yard. So I left the plug-in electric mower behind and purchased a lawn tractor. I live in New England, so I have a lot of rocks and boulders in my yard, lots of slopes to maintain, and many flower beds, specimen trees, etc. All of these make mowing quite challenging. I have a cordless electric string trimmer to help with these problem areas, but touching up 4 acres with a string trimmer is a helluva lot of work. I found myself back in the market for a small push mower and wanted a rechargeable electric. Based on the positive experience I had with my Sun Joe plug-in electric mower, I decided on this Sun Joe cordless electric mower. I use it to take care of the areas around the base of trees, around flower beds and on slopes where the riding mower cannot reach and the job is too big for a string trimmer. This mower is a great asset to my landscaping arsenal. Unfortunately, the battery life is not the greatest. I only need the mower to maintain at most 5% of my 4 acre property. Alas, I usually have to recharge it 2 to 4 times to get that done. This product would be infinitely better if it used a rechargeable battery pack (like my string trimmer) so that I could have an extra battery or two charged up and ready-for-action so I can keep on mowing and get the whole job done in one shot. As it is, I have to stop what I’m doing, bring the mower back up to the house, plug it in and wait for it to recharge before I can continue working. As a result, a couple hours work stretches out over two days. Other than that, I absolutely love this mower. If you have a very small yard, this unit will serve you well. If you want to use it for cleanup in a larger yard like mine. I do recommend it — just be prepared to recharge it often. ... show more

  • Light weight
Style: 4-Amp Color: Green
Not self propelled but very light weight and easy to use. Gets a little heavy when bag is full but otherwise very good lawn mower...small and easy to disassemble to storage.

  • Love it
Style: 4-Amp Color: Green
I have a small yard. This is light enough for me to use. I need to knee replacements and this doesn't put any extra stain on them. Very easy to push. Almost like using my walker. Battery holds a charge very well. I just wish it came with the side discharge chute. I see the one that you need to plug in has one. I tried to order one, no one has them. ... show more

  • works as instructed but takes time to "warm up"
Style: 4-Amp Color: Green
This lil lawn mower packs a punch and does what its supposed to. Perfect for a small yard. It does take a couple minutes to warm up. You can hear it once it kicks into high gear. Im not sure why it doesnt just start in this gear though so I usually have to mow over those sections again
