The mower arrived fully assembled with the exception of having to insert the metal frame into the grass catcher bag which took less than two minutes. After charging the batteries, it was ready to go. What I like about this mower: 1. The mulching is incredible. I make sure the grass is not wet and I'm only cutting about 1 1/2 inches off the blade of grass and I can't even see the clippings it mulches it so well. And, contrary to popular belief, mulching is not what creates thatch and mulching is a great way to return nutrients to the soil. If you want to bag the grass, just pull out the mulching insert and attach the bagger. It also comes with an insert that allows you to side discharge the clippings without a bag. 2. The self propelled operation works incredibly well. It is rear wheel driven and has a variable control so you can adjust it to your walking speed. The handle to activate the drive wheels is ergonomically designed making it simple to use. 3. I can mow my 1/2 acre yard effortlessly in 60 minutes and still have 1/4 battery charge remaining! What I don't like about this mower: ABSOLUTLEY NOTHING!! IT'S GREAT!! This mower is an upgrade from my EGO push mower as I now need the self propelling feature. At first I thought it was pretty expensive at $700, but I save $157 a season in gas so it will pay for itself in less than 5 years and I'm helping the environment! I am so impressed with the ergonomic engineering of all my EGO equipment. Powerful, well balanced and easy to use. While EGO batteries are interchangeable, I recommend you get the two batteries (5 amp) and charger that comes with the mower. You need that extra amperage for the proper power level and duration. Great product! 1. The mower works well, the self-propel, height adjustment, and different plugs work well. 2. The automatic bagging is also done good enough though the entrance of the bag gets blocked frequently and you have to manually push the cut grass to the bottom of the bag or empty it --this is the only thing that could be better. 3. With the two batteries I mow the entire lawn for 2 hours. They charge fast enough and after 3 years I don't feel the capacity decline. In winter I store them with 50-60% charge and in Summer when I pick them up they have kept the charge pretty well. 4. I have 4 other Ego tools, like blower, trimmer, etc. and they all work with the same batter, which is just perfect! 5. By the way the trace of the mower wheels remain on grass while I notice my neighbor's gas powered mower does not leave trace. Perhaps it is because of the weight of item. -------------------------- Update: After 2.5 years all of the sudden the mower did not turn on; it was a circuit problem most likely, not an engine issue. I didn't know till that point but this tool comes with 5 year warranty or mower (and 3 years on battery and charger). I was very happy when they fixed it for me for free! Loved it! ... show more

    • Efficient, powerful battery-powered lawn mower

This electric battery-powered mower replaces a SunJoe mower that died. This lawnmower is much more powerful and efficient. It was very easy to put together out of the box, with minimal assembly. While the instructions' images could be clearer (true for virtually every product coming from China), I figured out how to operate it and was quickly in business. I now have used it for over a month and can say it's a reliable, efficient machine. It's fairly heavy and requires some force to turn on hills and curves (which I have on my front lawn), but the self-propelled feature makes the overall job much easier and faster. The batteries hold enough charge for me to cut my lawn 4 to 5 times before having to recharge--a big upgrade from the SunJoe single battery which barely lasted a single cut. The unit runs fairly quietly for a powerful machine. I like that no mulching bag is required (though it comes with one as well as a side chute); the cuttings fall out the back and don't clog up the exit chute. Downside: I have not yet had to remove and sharpen the blade, but that's something that should be explained much more clearly with graphics, and as a result I have to ask a friend who's very handy with this kind of stuff to assist me, and I have to purchase new tools to do this--it would be a much better value if the unit came with all the tools necessary to do maintenance. For that I would have given the overall score 4.5 stars, not 5. ... show more

    • Compared to a gas mower...

Good machine, good design, customer service OK, too. First, the customer service part. I ordered two batteries with the mower and one arrived with the "check power level" button stuck. It did not move. Called customer service for another one. They registered the mower and both batteries and sent me a new battery, took about a week. My criteria for rating the electric mower are how well it does when compared to my old gas mower PROS: - noticeably lighter in weight than the gas mower, so easier to push without the self propelled engaged and easier to maneuver. - since it is mostly plastic it is much easier to clean than the metal gas mower. nothing really sticks to the plastic and there are no places for the grass clippings to hide like there are on the gas mower. - good ergonomics with the handle and self-propel lever - can recharge both batteries in about two hours - mows grass no differently from the gas mower CON (and the reason for 4 stars) - it doesn't mulch leaves as well as the gas mower. takes a couple passes sometimes to get all the leaves. I did take the advice of another reviewer and replaced the factory blade with one that is supposed to mulch better so I can't comment on how the factory blade mulches. I tried different mowing heights, too, but that didn't seem to have much of an effect. I'd buy it again because it's one way to help save the planet...just wish I could get an electric snow thrower that would work for me here in the Northeast ... show more
