  • Great for my dark blonde hair
I used to pay thousands every year to get blonde highlights done. But the pandemic came along and changed things. So I tried this stuff from the 80s. And now I’ll never go back to the stylist for color! Note that I am of northern European heritage and was a natural blonde as a child, but my hair darkened as I grew up. So that’s why this stuff works for me. I understand that it turns natural dark hair a lovely shade or orange. I apply it to damp hair and then go sit in the sun for a bit. And when the sun isn’t available, I hit it with a hairdryer on high heat and low speed. The sun does it best, but the hairdryer technique does successfully lift my color a few shades and gets me through winter. When I first started, I applied it heavily over several inches of growout. It took a whole bottle to lift the roots to match the treated hair. And for a while, it was pretty brassy / orangey. I kept going though because I learned that the grassiness just meant I hadn’t lifted it enough yet —and I am glad I persisted. After over 2 years of use, I have lovely highlights that rival those I used to pay thousands for. I just hit my part and about 3 inches on each side, and then the new growth around my face. I prefer to use the sun but will use the hairdryer in the dark of winter. When I use the sun, I apply every 2-3 weeks. And with the hairdryer. I apply weekly and run outside anytime the sun shows itself over the winter. ... show more

  • Great for subtly lightening hair - just don’t go overboard
Definitely will lighten your hair. I used on vacation to help lighten and hide grays. Just be careful and don’t use TOO MUCH. Overall it did what I wanted it to do. And no damage to my hair.

  • This Old Product Is Still Available & Works Well
I used this decades ago and thus was surprised to discover it is still around. And I love it! It's so quick and easy to spray on your hair for highlights, blending, or covering roots. You can easily control the amount of blonde. The smell is slightly unusual, but the convenience and reasonable price make it well worth the purchase. ... show more

  • I'm a fan
I know people are pretty split on this product, but it did exactly what I wanted it to. I would classify my natural hair color as "light brown". My hair is baby fine, soft and pretty shiny. My ponytail is only about the thickness of a dime. I used sun-in a few times over a few days when I knew I was going to blowdry it, and it just lightened my hair overall. I actually hardly noticed it myself but other people kept asking me if I dyed my hair blonde. I heard other horror stories about how it made people's hair break off or fall out, so I made sure to never use too much at a time. Just gentle spritzes on my roots for a few days once or twice a year. ... show more

  • Love this stuff. Start really slowly and you'll be fine.
This stuff is fantastic. You do, though, need to use it carefully. I have medium blond hair that used to get almost white in the summer when I was a child. After a brush with skin cancer I now avoid the sun altogether. I missed my light blond though and after much trepidation, decided to try this. I've read many negative reports where people's hair turned orange. It certainly isn't for everyone. I started very slowly with just one strand of hair. After not really noticing any change after several days, I started with all over my hair. I really used just a little and dried it with a blow dryer. Slowly my hair lightened nicely with some streaks and variations as well. Now I just do the roots about once a month. My hair was getting dried out but probably more from the blow-drying than the Sun-in. I've stopped blow drying except the one time a month I use the Sun-in and my hair has recovered nicely. As for all the hair dressers that warn against this stuff: They make huge bucks coloring hair. Of course they hate an alternative that costs a few dollars. Just start really slowly on a small strand of hair to be sure you won't be one of the one's who hair goes more orange than blond. ... show more

  • 90’s babies you already know
I used to use this stuff in high school and it still does not disappoint. I throw it on when I go out into the garden and a few days later I have highlights. It’s great if you want to change up your hair a little without a huge commitment or huge price tag. If you add enough of it it will completely transform your hair but I wouldn’t recommend it (it turns brassy). My hair is light brown and this product gives it nice golden streaks. I use a purple shampoo every once in a while to prevent it from going brassy and it’s one of the greatest hair hacks of all time. ... show more
