Purchased this pump to manage standing water in backyard during Southern California Winter 2024. This unit worked great in auto-shutoff mode and I was able to leave it plugged in for over a week to remove accumulated water. I used this inside a 12" catch basin connected to a 75-foot 2 1/4" corrugated pipe from Harbor Freight to push rainwater to the street. The only concern with this unit is it has a taller intake so you won't be able to suck up all the water...you will leave about 1/2" before too much air cuts off the suction. PROS - Super powerful 1hp motor that easily moved water from 13" catch basin through 75' (yes, feet) of collapsible tubing on mostly flat ground. - Auto-shutoff mode worked very well when leaving unit plugged in for over a week during California Winter 2024 storms. - Has adjustable internal float switch where you can increase the depth of water when using auto-shutoff mode. - Comes with lots of fitting attachments to meet different applications. CONS - Has minimum clearance of about 1/2" and will leave about 1/2" of water regardless of auto or manual mode. I had hoped for only about 1/4", but this is not a big deal. - So powerful, the unit jerks a little when turning on in auto mode. For my application, I could have gone with smaller horsepower, but the auto-shutoff mode worked great. ... show more

I did not expect to use this at all! When I bought it, I figured I’ll get a cheap one for my newly built pool “just in case.” Now we have a lot of rain lately here in CA. I have been using this a few times already to quickly drain some of the pool water to prevent it from overflowing (pool overflow line is not quick enough). It works very quick and efficient, very easy to use once you’re familiar with the set-up (hose). We are so happy with this purchase. Saved us from headaches from this rainy/stormy weather. FYI. The only downside is that it needs a deep water in order for this to work properly. It wont work on shallow puddles of water. But I can’t complain since it did what I wanted to do (for pool emergency drain). ... show more

Lasted just about 2 years til the day. Plastic area gets brittle and starts to fade and crack. Had issue with mice chewing thru cord. Open it up because it stopped working and inside motor showing rust, smelled like it burnt out. had it on automatic setting.

This pump is amazing... for about two weeks. When I first got it, I thought I had found the holy grail of pumps. It moved water like a champion. It was everything I had ever wanted in a pump. We had dreams. We had plans. We had a future. Then one day, without warning, it began smoking like it had just learned it owed money to the mob. Moments later, it died a dramatic, fiery death worthy of an '80s horror movie. I half expected a tiny ambulance to show up and carry it away. Naturally, I assumed I had done something wrong. So I returned it and got a replacement. The replacement lasted about the same amount of time before reenacting the exact same death scene. At this point, I became less of a customer and more of a grief counselor. Following the troubleshooting instructions revealed that the motor overheats. Apparently, this pump's long-term retirement plan is spontaneous self-destruction. If you're looking for a pump to use for a week or two, this may be perfect. If you're looking for something that will still be alive by the time you learn its name, keep shopping. The real cost wasn't the money—it was the emotional investment. I spent more time diagnosing, troubleshooting, replacing, and encouraging this pump than I spend maintaining some family relationships. Every time I walked outside, I wondered if today was the day I'd find it doing its impression of a smoke grenade. By the end, I wasn't managing water anymore. I was managing a very unstable actor who insisted on performing the same death scene over and over again. One star. The water drama was excellent. The pumping was temporary. ... show more

Update 1 year later... I have used this pump several times over the winter to drain water off my pool cover. It has worked flawlessly. This is hands down the best pump I've owned! Once you figure out your hose size connection, you're golden. I purchased a Superior Pump heavy duty 1.5" 25' lay flat discharge hose kit with 1.25, 1.5 discharge size. Clamp with a hose clamp and let it rip. I haven't had any debris that the pump will not mulch and suck through yet with no damage to the pump. I am particularly fond of the auto feature that shuts the pump off when the water level is too low to pump. I can walk away from it and forget about it. I highly recommend!! My pump showed up today, and I put it straight to work. Instructions weren't terrible, but could be a little clearer. I figured out the initial startup and air purge without any issues. It's a hefty little sucker, and for being plastic appears quite sturdy and we'll built. The two adapters that come with it seem thick and sturdy as well. If you're looking to hook up a yard hose to it then you're in luck. It will screw right on there with the supplied reducer. I bought it because of the 1 hp motor, and high flow rate, and I wanted to use a 1 1/2 inch hose. Unfortunately, the adapters that came with it are only reducers fro 1 12 inches. Now granted, the largest diameter reducer is 1 1/4 inches, so I cut off the excess smaller end and the hose fit with a hose clamp with some minor leakage. It did not appear to affect the pumping suction though. I will go purchase a threaded coupler from the hardware store and use the 1 1/2 inch adapter that I already have. Not a big deal really. I bought it to finish draining my pool for a deep clean. My old Wayne pump that I've had for years and rebuilt a couple of times finally decided to croak for good leaving about 2 ft of water in a 24 ft round pool. I was about to spend about 4 times more than this pump costs, and I thought for the price, why not? So I hooked up the hose, purged the air, and plugged it up. This sucker is a hoss!! It completely filled the 1.5 inch hose and started throwing some water! It drained the remaining water in under an hr. One note if you're not paying attention to detail...it only drains down to 3/4 inch. If you're looking for lower than that, look elsewhere. It was perfect for my needs. On a positive note, it will suck debris up to 1/2 inch, and I can tell you it does it effectively without any snafu's! Oh yeah, another plus is that it's very quiet which is nice. The only real downside that I see to this pump is the topside discharge. Once your water gets low enough, the weight of the hose will tip it over. So I had to babysit it for a bit close to the end. I believe that I will solve this by making a hard vertical pvc pipe with a 90 at the top with an extension to attach the hose to. It will be a fairly cheap fix and work well I think. You could adapt that setup to any situation that you have. Overall, I would highly recommend this pump after first use!! It performed flawlessly! The price point is unbeatable for a 3500 gal/ hr pump and a 1 hp motor. I will update after I've used it a few more times, but for now...5 stars!! ... show more

UPDATE! 7/16/2025 After almost a year now we guesstamated over 800 hours and it still pumps water. This pump in on a concrete block 2' 19" deep inside a 55 gallon drum with the top cut off and the bottom side up with a hinged door. It has pumped sand and leaves with more water than I can imagine from storms, hurricanes and a broken pipe for a week. I am buying another one just like it to be sure we don't flood out. After all that it has done I can not trust it to keep going. It has paid for itself more times than I can count. Used it for an automatic lift station for my new french drain. Out of the box it pumped far more water than expected but the auto would not function without shaking the pump. This was during a 4 inch downpour. Took it out of the hole, tinkered with the float and it began the auto great as seen in the video. Checked it today and the hole was filled, pump completely submerged. Shook it and bang! It began working perfectly again. The problem is, I am not going out in a Florida thunderstorm to kick-start it every time. I'll keep it for something later, but it's getting replaced with a REAL, reliable automatic sump pump. ... show more

It was set on automatic and I watched to make sure it would turn off and it did so I know it wasn't running continuously. Very disappointed at this product ... show more
