  • Check out YouTube videos before attempting an install
I had to replace a very old pump that failed a week earlier and, for me, the installation was easier than I thought it would be There are several YouTube videos that are extremely informative. My well is 3' wide and I discovered I had to add a flow sleeve shroud to extend the life of the pump. I think I figured out what killed my old pump - I only use the well for my 5 zone sprinkler system. When all zones are running continuously the pump is going hard for a couple of hours. The old pump did not have a flow sleeve and it gave up after a couple of years. I redid my sprinkler schedule to add 15 mins between zones to let the new pump cool off. Update: The pump worked great initially but gradually started failing. I pulled the pump and removed the shroud to discover trash was blocking the intake. The bottom of the pump was only 4' off the bottom so I cut off 6' of pipe to put it 10' off the bottom as is recommended. I still have 35' of water above the intake. Now working fine again. ... show more

  • WOW what a DEAL for the money ...lightweight and powerful !
I have gone thru several pumps over the years both 2 wire and 3 wire and this one beats them all!. First of all my order arrived in just 2 days ..amazing This pump is lighter weight/shorter uses less amperage and has more output than any I have used at 3 times the cost. Mine did not come with a heat shrink/connector kit for the wiring connections as some sellers of other pumps do include this kit. Using the optional supplied riser will require a 5 inch tube clearance verses a 4inch for just the pump. The power wires for this pump are smaller gauge than any I have seen/used but are rated to adequately carry the 5.1 amperage rating of this pump. I have had 1HP pumps that use almost 10 amps so the larger diameter power wires are required/needed in that case. The pump intake screen has smaller diameter holes than any I have used/seen so should allow less debris to be pulled through intake. The 14 foot long power cable is adequate and color coding is standard. ground lead is marked/identified with a metal tab labeled "GROUND" so that their can be no confusion. Noticed that the plastic bag containing the pump had a lot of condensation moisture in/on it but I assume this is the water from quality control testing. I like that the output port of the pump has carbon threads which reduce corrosive welding and deterioration of connective fittings. I was attracted by the *Industrial grade heavy duty, also good for home usage* statement as this appears to speak of a high standard to work performance. Wish this pump had a 3 year warranty verses a one year but at this price what can I say. I like that the company is located in the USA for warranty returns as warranties from other companies require that you pay shipping to Canada and other areas outside the USA This also concerned me when it comes to warranties on other brands. I found these and other such reviews on other brands sold on amazon.. and noticed the companies mentioned in the 2 reviews never responded. _____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Most Helpful Customer Reviews 8 of 8 people found the following review helpful Why I did NOT buy this pump. By Alexander Orenstern on October 29, 2012 I was about to order this pump from Amazon when I had a technical question and I called Flotec. Flotec told me that they would not honor any warranty on the pump if I bought it from Amazon. I checked with Amazon and they confirmed, no warranty of any kind. So I went with Red Lion. The parent company of Red Lion (Franklin Electric) told me that they do honor warranties on Red Lion EVEN IF I bought a pump from Amazon. 2 of 2 people found the following review helpful well pump By Rae on September 12, 2012 Amazon Verified Purchase First one didn't work so Amazon replaced it, second one quit after two and a half months which is beyond Amazons 30 days so called Flotec who said that since I bought it through Amazon they weren't required to and wouldn't honor their warrenty. Amazon refunded me 80% of the purchase price. Go Amazon, I bought a new pump a home supply store, but not a Flotec, I'm not overly fond of them at this point. ____________________________________________________________________________________________________ Now only time will tell how well it lasts to heavy everyday demand. will provide periodic updates. Bottom line.....WHAT A DEAL! addition info The capacity of the pump is determined by the width of the impeller vanes and its pressure by the number of impellers. As an example, a ½ horsepower 7-stage pump may deliver a high volume of water at a low pressure while a ½ horsepower 14-stage pump will deliver a lower volume but at a greater pressure. Like all other centrifugal pumps, an increase in well depth or discharge pressure will reduce the capacity. ... show more

  • lots of pressure
I am using this in a river. I put mine inside of a 6 inch pvc casing with a screen on the bottom to prevent weeds from getting sucked in. this pump kicks A$$. I have 4 tripod sprinklers in my yard coming off of a 1 inch pvc manifold that is about 150 foot from the pump. It powers 4 tripod sprinklers like nothing, blasts water about 75 feet each sprinkler. It is important that you use a casing to cool the motor to prevent overheating that's what I did after talking to manufacturer before I even got started check youtube, the cool water gets pulled around the motor when the pump is running to cool the thermal transfer. I read 1 review where they stated the ground is to small and will burn the pump out. That is not true. the ground wire on a 220 volt motor carries no current and its sole purpose is to have a path to ground if the motor should ever short out. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND USING A GFCI BREAKER AND TESTING IT. I did this by simply dropping the end of the 12 gauge extension cord into the water and it killed both legs of the 220 volt breaker. I do not know what the longevity of this pump is yet but will let you guys know in the future. mine has been running this for about 3 days now for extended periods of time and no problems yet. The pump is in the water about 40 inches and no cavitating at all. Update going on 2 months running twice a day for about 45 minutes and still going strong. "POWERFULL" I have to have 2 tripod sprinklers going at one time. With just one going it will knock the sprinkler over it has so much pressure. LOVE IT ... show more

  • Warning on purchase: worked great at first (Update 5 months later), weeks later update
I suspended the pump inside a 6" well casing that I placed in a 50 gallon trash can that holds 240 pounds of cement. I sunk it 15' into a lake and pump the water out of the lake up 29' to a pond that is the start of my waterfall/stream. Pump is quiet and working great so far. (Pump worked great for 5 months then died, now I have to wait until spring to dive down in the lake and replace pump, I was hoping for at least a few years of operation, not 5 months.) UPDATE: Foolishly I purchased the same pump again, but upgraded the ground wire to 12ga as suggested by other users. Let's hope this does the trick this time. When it works it works fine, just doesn't work long enough. Will update as the months go by... UPDATE: Didn't need to wait months for review, it crapped out within a week. Left in water for a few days to test my electrical connection and when pulled it out it had already started to rust. (see photo)This product should be banned from sale, it only works for a short while then fails. I WILL NOT be buying a third one, returning this one. Save your money and purchase elsewhere. One star is to high a rating....! ... show more

  • Read the user manual carefully before installation
The pump has been running for 2 week now. So far so good. Pump arrived on time and well packaged. There are numerous warning in the package the need of installing the check valve. The installation manual is easy to follow and very thorough. I followed the manual and perform every test recommended. Check for ground shorting on the electrical cable where it is spliced. I did not use the Sta-Kon connectors provided. I soldered the splice and wrapped it with electrical tapes before covered it in heat sink tube. I did not use the heat sink tube provided because it is too big. Test run the pump to ensure it running. I filled the trash can with water to the brim and drop in the pump. Make sure water is up to the neck of the pump. For me, the most difficult part of the installation is to insert the barbs to the drop pipe. I used the extensive long steel barb which allow me to put three steel clamp on it. At first I used the propane torch to heat the pipe up and try to insert the barb but failed twice because of un-even heating of the pipe. I finally succeeded inserting the barbs when heating the pipe with boiling water. I used a Pex expander to expand the pipe enough to insert the barb initially. Then dipped them into a pot of boiling water for 5 minutes, pull them out then hammering the barb in using the rubber mallet. It took 3 try to complete the insertion. This task required two people. The only complain that I have is the electrical cable of the pump motor. They use a twisted 18 gauges wire. It looks so flimsy. it should be 14 gauges solid wires like the old pump that died after 12 years of usage. I use this well pump for irrigation only. My system have a pressurized tank. Make sure you check the tank pressure and set it accordingly with the pump pressure switch setting. my pump pressure switch is 30-50 psi. So I set the tank baffle pressure at 28 psi. 2 psi below the low value of the pump pressure switch. Once the pump running, make sure to check the pump cycle time. Pump running time must equal pump resting time. If pump ran for 2 minutes to reach the cut off PSI then pump must rest for 2 minutes before restarting. I ended up to set the pump running continuously for 30 minutes for each irrigation zone then resting for 30 minute before starting the next zone. It seem to work well so far. I believed my old pump burn out because its cycle time was off badly. I am happy if this one last for another 5 years . It's only 125 bucks. ... show more

  • Hallmark Industries is the pump to buy!
I've had this pump installed for about 4 months and I highly recommend it to anyone that is considering a submersible. I replaced a 1/2hp, 110V above ground unit with this beauty. I choose this unit as a result of the positive reviews and value. Products with similar reviews were significantly more expensive and it has turned out to be a very good decision to go with the Hallmark pump. This is the first submersible pump that I've ever installed and I did a lot of studying to make sure I was ready for the task. It turns out that the instructions provided with the unit are really adequate for doing the installation without a lot of experience or studying up front. My approach was to do a lot of assembly work in advance of cutting off the old system. This included preparing for the electrical change over to 220V before doing the installation. As a result of all of the preparation, I was able to convert from the old system to the new system in about 5 hours. The house was able to run on the water in the accumulator for the entire period that the water was shut down, which makes the occupants very happy. I can't comment on how well the pump will work over the long haul yet, but I am thrilled with the performance that has been demonstrated so far. It moves an incredible amount of water (~30gal/min) and my pressure settings are 60psi off/40psi on. You will not be disappointed with this pump. ... show more

  • Quality pump
Works great and is very quiet when running. Water pressure is good and the only complaint that I have is that it doesn’t have a built in check valve so one has to be purchased separately. Easy to install

  • Works perfectly!!!
Bought this to replace a 8 yr old flotech pump (cost me $598 = $74.75 per yr) sheared the impeller shaft off internally. After spending time looking for parts and sadly discovering no repair parts were available for the flotech I started pricing new pumps from the box stores and could not justify the cost vs longevity so I decided to shop around on amazon for something a little more cost effective. The Hallmark MA0414X-7A appears to be of decent quality and comparable materials to the flotech pump getting replaced. The specs and measurements were almost identical, it was very easy to justify the purchase at 1/4-1/3 the cost even if it only has a 1-yr warranty I can by 3-4 of these pumps at $150 and still break even. The pump arrived 2-days from ordering as I am a prime member and I had it installed and running in less than an hour. The Hallmark is much quieter then the flotech and performs as well or better imho I've only had it installed for a day so I can not comment on durability yet however it seems that even when I spent the money for a "name brand quality" product the first time it didn't pay off as I thought it would. I am very satisfied with my purchase so far...only time will tell if It really makes a big difference spending the extra coin for supposedly better quality, I'm thinking not comparing the pumps side by side I would purchase this item again ... show more
