Description

The Steelcase Series 1 chair has a LiveBack flexor system in the backrest which conforms to your body and moves with you to support the spine as you change postures. The tilt mechanism is synchronized; the seat and back work in harmony with each other, keeping the body securely supported in the chair and feet firmly planted on the floor so you can recline without leaving your optimal zone for seeing and reaching your work. This model includes an adjustable seat depth, fully adjustable arms (raise up and down, pivot in and out, shift forward and back and side to side), adjustable lumbar, pneumatic seat height adjustment, recline tension adjustment (weight activated with adjustment and lock), flexing back with mesh upholstery, upholstered seat and wheels for hard flooring.The seat features strong yet pliable foam which conforms to the body and creates pressure-free comfort. Flexible seat edge offers a bit of bend, right where you need it – relieving pressure points under your thighs. This chair will arrive unassembled and require some assembly; covered by Steelcase warranty.

Comfortable for mt 5 foot self. Super easy to assemble. Cons for me: they should include to tool need to disassemble in case you will be moving and they REALLY ned to make the armrest pads lockable so they do not always move!!!very annoying. I may have to use duct tape to keep them in place!!!

For reference I’m 5’2 112lbs. I was working on a kitchen chair with a cushion for 1.5 years into the pandemic. I was experiencing a lot of neck and shoulder pain and was Even in physical therapy for the pain. I searched high and low for the right chair. given my height, I didn’t want to make things worse. I definitely did not plan to spend this much on a chair (I started at $50, silly me. Who knew that chairs were so expensive). After reading so many reviews I didn’t want to end up putting a chair together only to discover it would be too big for me and have to take it apart. Some said you needed special tools. I couldn’t deal with the hassle. The more expensive chairs were the ones that can adjust for shorter people. I chose this one bc it met all the criteria I was looking for l and was the “cheaper” option. If you’re short I recommend this. Pros are: 1) meets short people criteria: can adjust low enough to the ground, has shorter depth in the seat, and adjustable arms. 2) I find the back supportive and the seat comfortable without adding any other cushions or support even after an 8 hour day (I don’t sit 8 hours straight (no one should) but comfortable for the day. 3) I got the grey one with the wheels for hard floors. Esthetically pleasing and doesn’t go rolling all over the place. The only cons are: 1) the seat slides just a bit even after being locked in place. It’s not the biggest deal but makes me more annoyed bc I paid so much for this chair that something like this shouldn’t happen. 2) the arm rest slide from side to side and front and back which is good. They don’t lock in place. Again not super annoying but more so bc you’d expect a locking function for this price. In sum, I don’t have as much pain which is a huge plus and suits my small frame ... show more

Don’t assemble the chair if you think you might want to return it. It’s near impossible to get it disassembled once you use it for a few days due to how the gas canister locks in, unless you have a specific tool the manufacturer suggests to easily remove some parts. Amazon is no help when it comes to this - they simply repeat to place it back in its original box and return it like it’s a traditional chair that goes together with an allen-wrench and a little sweat…couldn’t be more incorrect. Managers and supervisors repeat the same sentences over and over never offering any assistance until you get someone that knows they can arrange for a different carrier to pick the fully assembled chair up. Good luck if this happens to you. Onto the chair - The chair itself is …okay. I expected more for $500 to be honest. I had a SecretLab chair that was better in many ways, just a bit too firm in the bottom. This chair offers a variety of adjustments to hone in on your ideal comfort but the tilt-lock function is horrible. The chair either is fully locked or fully reclined with leaning, no in between. I have had chairs half as expensive that included this capability and it’s silly to not have at this price point. Highly suggest purchasing somewhere local so you don’t have to deal with the return process if it all possible. If you can live with the tilt compromises then it may be a great chair for you. This chair was driving me crazy until today. I thought it was me, I just couldn't get the armrests level. I've used a level to level them but I have small children and sometimes they adjust the armrests when playing in my chair. So today I raised the arm rests all the way to the top and used a mirror to look at me in them. The left armrest was significantly higher than the right. I had to click the left armrest down two levels for it to line up with the right. This means in the past when I thought I was starting from equal armrests and lowering them to the level I needed, I was not. I also wish the pads of the armrest clicked into place instead of sliding, or had some kind of lock and release because they often slide out of place for me. Otherwise this is a pretty decent chair. The seat is very comfortable, the casters are very smooth, and the back support is very supportive. Not the best chair I've ever used and idk if it's worth ~500 but it's solid. ... show more
