The resounding success of the Staub Pumpkin had us asking what other heirloom fruit or vegetable should we bring to Staub. We wanted something that could compliment the pumpkin for the collector. We scoured farmer's markets to find our muse, and after much looking we landed on the Brandywine Tomato. The Brandywine is an heirloom cultivar which bears large beautiful tomatoes that are popularly considered among the very best tasting. The Staub cocotte is unsurpassed for slow-cooking meats and vegetables to tender perfection, and for simmering hearty stews and soups. Cast iron possesses exceptional heat- retaining qualities, so the pot heats evenly throughout. This pot also makes a handsome serving vessel at the table.

This thing is super cute, but a little smaller than anticipated. The Bloody Mary picture must be 8oz cups. For reference, I put in an 18oz SOLO cup. With ice I could probably fit three of these cups in. I actually like the small size because we’re a family of three, and it’s easier to keep in a decorative spot in the kitchen. All looks very good, cooking time shorter than other pots. But it did not come without ribbons. No idea whether the ribbon was missing or the pot was refurbished.

I have the Staub pumpkin which I bought a few years ago. It still looks beautiful, so I bought the tomato in the grenadine color. The item I received is more of a dark purple/red/black color than the color that was online, but it's still beautiful. I wanted a gold stem instead of silver, and the only tomato they offer with a gold stem is the one in grenadine. I am keeping the one I received. I will be purchasing the minis soon. ... show more

    • Beautiful and Charming! Staub's figural cast iron cocotte's are stunning!
I couldn't believe the price on this Staub, but after investing in the Pumpkin and the Vegetable Lid Cocotte, I didn't hesitate! The handle is sturdy and it's quite nice to have a hand that sticks out a bit further than their traditional handles. I thought the brushed nickel finish would clash with the red of the tomato, but it goes quite nicely. This is a truly lovely cocotte - it is smaller, but perfect to make a side dish or soup for two. I wouldn't hesitate to pair this with the Staub Vegetable Lid Cocotte in Basil and put them out on my dinner table for a stunning effect! As with all of Staub's pieces, the red of this piece is deep and gorgeous! I am an avid Le Creuset collector, but I have also come to love the quality, black interior, and intense depth of color that Staub pieces bring to the kitchen. If you're considering picking up a piece as a gift for a wedding, or if you have a smaller kitchen where space is at a premium, or if you simply want to add to the Staub figural cast iron collection, don't hesitate to add this charming Tomato Cocotte to your collection! ... show more

    • It's a Pretty Specialty Item, but Scratched more than I expected

I own eight Staub cast iron pieces and a few of them were bought "with imperfections" but this piece was scratched worse than I expected. There's normally a spot here or there that you can easily ignore and live with in exchange for the cost savings. But this item had two scratches about an inch long directly on top of the lid in full view. So I was rather disappointed, making the purchase a less economical value. I have been wanting this item for a while, so I kept it. But I think it should have been discounted a little deeper, considering. I would rather have one that's not so obviously damaged since this is a display piece for my kitchen. ... show more
