UPDATE: After leaving the review below, I used the machine over the course of the following week. I came home from work Friday to see a package left at my front door containing alternate pedals. I'm not sure if it was the vendor who sold me the machine or Stamina who sent them, I never contacted anyone. Wow, what a difference! The different pedals hold your feet much better. Thank you to whoever it was that read the review and handled getting the better pedals to me. Great customer service!!! Original Review: As others have mentioned, the pedals are completely useless. I purchased mine a week ago, 1/28/18, and see that there are several more reviews stating the same thing since my purchase. This product had 4.5 stars when I purchased. I bought it after seeing a couple reviews mentioning the pedals were an issue, so I was aware that it was a probable issue. I can say that after my first 20 minutes with it, your foot falls out of the straps every 4-5 strokes. I wear a mens size 10 and I think even the smallest foot would have the same issue. Flipping the pedals to the wrong side as they are marked, "L" on the right side & "R" on the left side mad it a lot easier to tighten the Velcro strap, however I still found it difficult to get the straps tight enough to keep my feet in place and there is almost no lip on the bottom of the pedal for the heel to rest on. Also, I can't seem to get the water bottle holder to stay in place, but I think that will be an easy solution with a could dabs of super glue. I like the rest of the machine, the seat is comfortable slides quietly and is smooth. The display is nice, however it does have a faint beep with every stroke but nothing that I feel will get annoying. There's no way you can hear it if there is any other noise in the room, I was in a quiet garage. There is a good range of resistance from the different levels. Helpful tip: The handle bar comes with one foam hand grip preinstalled and one not installed so you can slide the bar through the strap going into the machine and then install the foam grip. I found it very difficult to do it this way without feeling like I was going to tear the foam. I installed the the foam grip on the handle bar before I put it though the strap while lubricating the bar with a small stream of water under the faucet. I then removed the preinstalled foam grip, put the bar through the strap, and then put the foam grip back onto the handle bar. Since this foam grip has already been on the bar it is stretched to the diameter of the bar making it a lot easier to slide onto the handle bar with it installed on the machine. Originally I had lots of worries about this product based on mixed reviews both for this product and similar from other brands. But so far after using that for almost a month and at least 4-5 times per week, I must say I am quite happy about my spending. It was relatively easy to assemble (all done by myself and within an hour, no additional tools besides what were provided in the box). The seat and grip are comfortable, and very quiet compared to the chain rowers. Some may find resistance not as strong as those in the gym/high-end but it is decent and still gives a good workout(but definitely not for professional rowers who want to use that for their training to go on competitions). It feels sturdy and looks nice

This rower was added to our small fleet of equipment, partly because it stores upright in a small footprint, and also because it offers a wide variety of resistance levels and is quiet at any level. I received it and put it together, which was pretty simple process. Upon first use I could not seem to get the resistance to change, and i was not going to sweat by any means at this level. Maybe I put it together wrong? On further inspection the resistance wheel was not spinning. After some rogue adjustments and further research I eventually determined that it had a bad one-way bearing for the resistance wheel. Customer service was helpful and efficient, confirmed my assessment nearly immediately (ahem, concern?) and offered quick product replacement. They offered several rower models (but not this one) so I asked for this one as the replacements were of lesser quality IMO (I wanted the electronic readout, Heart rate, and programmable mag adjustments) but when I requested the same as trade they sent that straight away. There was no returning the defective unit or anything...ugh, more landfill? Really, if i had to rate their customer service it was personal, quick, and direct, probably a 9/10. The new rower came and the box was a bit beat up, and so was the housing (but I had that one for the landfill to part out instead) and was perfectly functional. It provided the product I was hoping for at a low, low price. As far as use, it is very quiet. I can watch television with either the sound at a normal volume, or through headphones at a very normal volume. The programmable interface does turn out to be a bit of a pain to change adjustment levels on the fly versus a dial type resistance item. The multiple preprogramed workout variants are nice, and the heart rate monitor works without flaw. You cannot rely on the calories that it calculates for you as it way overestimates. Most internet resources show about 800cal/hr for a man of my weight at a moderate to vigorous level...though the readout kcal max is 1000, I usually hit that within just 20minutes into the session with the resistance I use. So don't rely on that thing to convince yourself you can have more Cheetos, you did not just burn 3000 calories in that hour dude. The resistance range is great, top end is a solid effort to keep up for long, bottom end is minor resistance. It offers a nice workout with your arms, legs, and core engaged. The handle could be more ergonomic or comfortable, but its not bad at all, just not ideal. Ultimately, would I buy it again? I guess. But I'd rather have a little nicer one. But then I would not be able to afford as many Cheetos. The same company has other higher level models. I might send the dollars that way unless you just want it to hang clothes on in the basement or something.
