  • Reliable quality
Great little torch, I use with cooking fuel butane, lite firewood, and charcoal for the grill, or light candles, all around tool box worthy lighter for heating things up.

  • I love my Made in Japan Soto utility lighter
I love my Made in Japan Soto utility lighter! Works great. Some other reviews state that you can't use it for lighting candles, but I use it all of the time for lighting candles without any issues.

  • Handy little torch
The only reason I didn’t five star this is because in bright light, I can’t see the butane flame. I can hear it, but I can’t really see it. Other than this, it’s a good device and I’m happy with it

  • Low quality ignition trigger
In addition to having to purchase the fill nozzle separately, the quality of the lever that you press to light it is terrible. It is a cheap plastic part with a sliding safety mechanism that is awkward to use at best. They even have instructions printed on the side to show you how to light it - and it is awkward. You would think it would light on the first click, but it does not. The best is two clicks, but often it is 3 clicks. And each click requires effort due to the poor design of the "safety" feature. The flame is nice, once you get it lit, but the ignition trigger should be a more robust design for the price. I would not recommend this product and would suggest looking at refillable butane torches. ... show more

  • Good lighter - not the easiest to light.
I have only put fuel in the lighter one time. It last a long time and does not leak down. My only complaint is with the safety mechanism - it’s not the easiest to use. It always takes a few tries to light it. Flame is hot and consistent each time it’s lit - much better than your standard fireplace lighter. ... show more

  • Flame out, Mav!
Works as described. Except nothing describes that it doesn't extinguish as quick as you'd expect. Any cheep lighter extengiushes immediately. Not this.

  • Camp fire lighter
Great lighter. When keeping it on lighting a fire, once you let go it will stay on for a short time.

  • Perfect Lighter For My Backpacking Stoves
This lighter was highly recommended by by a backpacking YouTube channel titled Paul Messner which I respect. I also have several other Soto products including Amicus and Windburner stoves and the Soto Thermostack Combo Cook Set and have come to respect the build quality and design of Soto products. My favorite stove for windy conditions when weight isn’t an issue is the MSR Windburner and it doesn’t come with an igniter. Recently I was having a problem lighting my Windburner because the wind was blowing at approximately 25-30 mph and kept blowing out my Bic lighter. I got the stove lit, but it was sort of a hassle so I decided to get the Soto Pocket Torch XT which has proven to be much more wind resistant than the Bic lighter and the extension keeps my fingers out of the stove burner. I also got the Soto Fill Adaptor 00-TRG which works like a charm filling up the lighter from standard Iso Butane canisters which I always have with me anyway to use with my stoves. The stove canisters are about 20% propane and 80% butane and work fine with this lighter down to at least 20 degrees Fahrenheit which is lower than with straight butane fuel. To sum up I have had no problems with this lighter, it is well suited to light backpacking stoves and I attribute the lower reviews to operator error or defective fuel. ... show more
