  • Good deal, great product, does what it's supposed to do -AvocadoReview Good deal, great product, does what it's supposed to do -AvocadoReview
Size: 50 pounds Box
Always remember- if you don't see the avocado in the first image, then it's not a real review from the official Supreme Avocado. My reviews are real, they're detailed, and I will give a good and honest breakdown of the product. And my reviews are NEVER sponsored, nor will they ever be. Ordered the 50lb box. First thing I did was weigh it when it came in- it was 49.9 lbs. They shorted me a sliver BUT I suppose I can let it slide...THIS time. Packaging was not great. Now, I'm sure it looked great when they packed it, but fellas this is a 50 lb box. You need interior reinforcement. Even though the cardboard they use is decent, it's just not going to survive the trip in good shape. The box had significant damage so I recommend using an upper and lower support- something stiff. Could even be a thicker sheet of cardboard, like some corrugated cardboard would be good, hard styrofoam, just something that goes above and below the wood and covers the full 2D dimension of the box. Then it won't get crushed as easily. Inside, the wood was nicely packed and secured by a sturdy plastic sheet to protect from moisture I assume. If my box had gotten stuck in the rain, the wood would've been fine. The wood is stacked vertically and was nicely packed in. The wood itself comes in different shapes and sizes. The lengths are well constrained in a tight range, from 6.25 to 8 inches (there may be some outside this range but this captures the vast majority of pieces) Thickness varys considerably but there is a good ratio of thick to thin, and having some different thicknesses is a good thing. There are many thicker pieces than thin and overall I think it's a great mix. Performance - I burned a single, averaged size piece by itself and it burned for around 15 minutes with a strong flame when it was by itself - so a long time. And it burned hot. I also burned a little waffle stack of them (10) and that was BLAZING. It burned for a long time, and even more interesting- I had them sitting on a rack in a waffle shape where the metal supports were 6 inches apart, almost as long as the wood itself, and the wood was in a 2 x 3 x 3 x 2 waffle (criss cross / cross hatch) shape and they held up on there for almost the entire time, around 11 minutes, before falling. That is unusual but I've never used fatwood before- this could be due to the fact that this wood has a lot of resin. In any case, it did not disappoint. All the pieces I used lit up very easily. I used a normal butane grill lighter it took less than 5 seconds for then to catch and stay lit. They burn with a strong flame for the duration that they're burning. They let off a dark black, but thin smoke. They have a subtle smell when burning that is difficult to describe, but it doesn't really smell like wood burning. It's not overwhelming but it's there... maybe like an old unscented candle? Something like that is probably the best descriptor I can give. I don't have a very sensitive sense of smell. While it does have a lot of resin, conventional wisdom is that it's safe for your fireplace and will contribute minimal residue (which makes sense I suppose because you're using 2-3 pieces to start a fire). In fact due to how hot it burns, it actually might be beneficial for your fireplace because it'll preheat the flue and help prevent creosote buildup. For cooking, they're perfectly safe to use as a firestarter but don't use this on its own to cook over. Just wait until they burn through and you'll be good to go. If you get this and you notice it dripping, don't be alarmed- that's normal. This wood has a lot of resin in it. Totally normal and not going to hurt anything. Just be careful to not bring your bare hands around this wood while it's burning because you don't wanna get burning resin on your skin. Value - right now a 50lb box is $108. They say 500 sticks per bag and that does seem a good estimate. If we assume 2-3 per fire, or 2.5, then this is getting you to 200 fires. This seems to be in range of many other brands. There are definitely cheaper ways to start fires, but this is easy and convenient, and works in a lot of adverse conditions- and these get delivered to you, you don't have to do anything. So you're getting a fair deal but the question is do you want to pay for this or do you want to go through finding a local source of firewood scrap or do it yourself etc.... Overall - if you're looking for something like this, you should be happy with this purchase. They do what they're supposed to do and they do it well. ... show more

  • The best fire starters!
Size: 10 pounds Box
Super easy to use. Simply pop a few in under your kindling and it lights almost instantly and burns for a while until the other wood will catch. It does have a slight odor, but nothing to powerful. It’s just what they soak the wood in to assist in igniting. The box will last a while. (It calls for using 2-3 pieces per fire). ... show more

  • Good fire starters. Long burn time. Easily lit. Good fire starters. Long burn time. Easily lit.
Size: 10 pounds Box
Great fire starter. Many of the sticks are larger than needed, I use a small axe to chop them smaller. This adds more value as it gives me more starter wood. Some of the sticks can be cut a few times. Easily catch on fire on both ends and last long enough to catch firewood on fire.

  • They work OK, but not all of mine will light
Size: 10 pounds Box
I’m between three and four stars on this one, so I’ll give them the benefit of the doubt. They smell great, they’re easy to handle, you don’t get any splinters off of them, but at least in my box not all of them will light, and that is irritating. Not sure what the problem is, I brought the box inside as soon as I got it and put it by my fireplace and now with the cold snap, I was really hoping they would be a quick source of heat… Some are and some are not. ... show more

  • Quick and a great value!
Size: 10 pounds Box
These really get the job done!! I’ve never had great luck with starting a fire or keeping it going. Just one of these was able to catch my whole fire pit and the wood wasn’t even completely dried. One box will last us the whole summer and we are a family who enjoy a fire a few times a week
