I’ve been using fatwood sticks for decades. There is definitely a variation in quality in the options available. This product performs quite well, lights easily with one match, stays lit and burns completely. I always split the sticks in half or more to get more mileage out of the quantity purchased and they burn better when split. Such is the case with these. I got a good price on a large quantity box . Excellent product. Starts my pit fast. You know when the stick is done when all the darker smoke is gone. Also leaves tar liquid behind, do not burn on concrete the tar will stain.

Have used these for coupe years. Great way to start a fire in wood stove. Light quickly and burn hot to get fire going. Only need 2-3 pieces so box last a while.

Decent lighter for a reasonable price in a size that works well to start fires. Those who have used pine lighter wood from old growth long leaf pine stumps, will need to adjust expectations. This wood does not have nearly the level of resin built up as old growth lighter wood. Overall the the wood starts and burns well, but the same could be said for dried yellow heart pine wood with a lot of resin. The box is convenient and the wood is drier in appearance than one generally sees if harvesting locally, but over time all will fade and the resin will be less effective. How to know if you have a good product. Starts Easy and will have a creosote/black smoke immediately. Lighter wood with heavy amounts of resin will also make a sound as the resin burns off. I gifted these to my best friend for his house warming present. He loves them and since he's not a great fire starting handyman, he just tosses one in to start the fire and it works like a champ. I prefer whittling shavings off of the fat wood or feathering a small piece to use as my tender to ignite the kindling. But in a pinch if you're in a hurry or if you just want to look like you know what you're doing light one of these and you'll have a fire- no problem. ... show more

We live in northern Idaho where we get some serious weather. Every fall, my boys spend the weekends splitting wood, and getting it stacked + ready for the winter. But, we never forget to stock up on these kindling sticks too. They are a life-saver. They save time, money and get our fireplace going quickly. If we ever run out, and it's cold, we don't tend to wait on matches + paper. So, we'll end up using a propane torch, which is a huge waste of money and resources. Torches are great for other more important uses so we'd rather not waste them on getting a fire lit. No, these Eco-Stix are the best option, and for a great price. They sit in a box next to the fireplace (pictured) and we never run out! It’s a tradition now for my husband to order them every fall, so we are stocked through winter.     • An Economical Easy Way to Start the Wood Stove

These sticks bypasses the need to brush up on your outdoor survival skills in your living room, building a kindling bird nest to get a fire started, and are way cheaper and smaller than the Duraflame logs you buy at the grocery store. I use 2-3 sticks for every fire, and these sticks will easily ignite, medium small pieces of wood, even without kindling. The best fire starting experience definitely would benefit from the use of kindling mixed in with the fat wood though for sure. I just ordered by second box of these.
