I use refillable cylinders regularly. Refilled one of them 11 times now, but is beginning to leak. THIS one has brass fitting and an actual bleed port to displace vapors. Works great! The refill position UPRIGHT…So make sure you have the fill fitting that swivels.

I've debated on whether or not it was worth it to get these refillable propane tanks. The initial costs are more than it costs to buy the disposable tanks, so I waited for a sale and finally got it and it is truly worth it. Now that prices have increased for the disposable tanks, it is a lot cheaper to refill these than to buy disposables. After refilling the tank a few times, it has more than paid for itself and I don't have to deal with disposing of the other tanks. You will need to also purchase a refill adapter to fill these tanks from your bulk/BBQ tank (5, 15, 20 pound, etc.). Be sure to follow the instructions carefully. The place that I usually go to have my bulk tanks refilled did not have the adapter to fill these one pound tanks. Where I live, there is no process for recycling the disposable tanks and it is dangerous to put them into the regular trash. Now, I have reusable tanks and I don't have to worry about disposables. ... show more

Definitely a qualified 5 stars depending on how they work long term. It is a great concept if you consider the millions of potentially dangerous caninisters that are discarded every year. Obviously not for everyone though and I wouldn't recommend to anyone not totally comfortable and familiar with the process. Do it outside, period. Also you'll be working with an upside down fairly heavy 20lb tank and if any does go wrong it will be liquid propane that will be spraying out and it will be super easy then to get a freezer burn or worse start a fire. Have super respect for the process. They are VERY easy to fill with the Flame King kit . I got pretty good with the old freezer method of refilling the standard canisters but it's a cumbersome process and your target of 80% fill was hit or miss and I'd occasionally overfill. I always weigh so I'd just release the excess but that wastes gas. Some recommend pulling on the schrader overfill valves on these to accelerate the process but I never felt comfortable messing with them. The Flame King tanks have a bleed screw you crack open with a supplied hex wrench which accomplishes the same thing(allowing gas to escape so liquid propane can take it's place)and all with the cannister in the upright position.You can get these very close every time and your not fumbling with a canister in an awkward position.I do still weigh.When I have the 20lber set up I can fill one of these tanks in about a minute. These seem like their built to a very robust standard and everything on top is brass. I am a little nervous about some of the early issue problems, but they say the fixed that issue.If you use the Flame King refill kit be very carefull to make sure the small white tab seats into the slot on the cannister threaded top as I believe this is how some are snapping off the tabs. Its only there to prevent conventional cannisters from being used with their filler kit, and from my perspective is an unneccesary nuisance. If it breaks off your kit will still work, you'll just be able to fill the throwaway canisters now(I'm not trying to give prople ideas).It will be interesting to see if any other refillable cannisters in this price range appear. There is one other but it won't fit many, if not most recreational appliances designed for this size tank, and it costs about $50. I believe that with propane prices whre they are right now in my area(about $2.10 a gallon) I can fill one of these for about 50 to 60 cents. You can buy the throwaways in Walmart for about $3plus so if you use them a lot it''s qwite a savings, plus if you run out at home you won't have to drive to Walmart or someplace else.If they last I love them. ... show more

I have 3, used them several times, I carry them full when camping and refill with my 5 lbs one giving me 8 lbs altogether of fuel since I tent camp for long periods. These are virtually paying for themselves since is cheaper this way about $1 a pound where I live. Some people refill the green bottles sold in any store, bear in mind that can be very dangerous because those bottles are thinner, not meant to be refilled and if you overfill them they expand with the weather running a chance of leaking or worse, exploding. These have valves that will tell you when to stop and are much heavier than the disposable ones. I’m very satisfied with the safety, performance and how easy it is to refill having less waisted empty bottles and being more economical, as said before they literally will pay for themselves at a dollar a pound. ... show more

I filled many 1 lb green propane tanks but with mixed results. I researched and found Flame King offered a safe method for refilling. I ordered 3 of these and can say with no reservation this is the cat's meow. I was able to safely refill these containers in just a few minutes. I also ordered a refill valve with trigger to fi- under the upturned 20 lb bottle I refill from. Great product and I look forward to using them for a very long time. A 20 lb bottle of propane can be refilled for about $20 -$30 depending where you are which reduces my 1 lb bottles to a price of only $1 - $2 each refill! ! ... show more

Bought 4.New brass caps.Done with the disposables.They can be refilled with a little more effort, but d.o.t.says no on transportation.I watched a video with both canisters cut in half.The flame kings are thicker,better welds and the valve can be quickly opened and closed with attached Allan key.Whats not to like. ... show more
