The internal bar was too long to fit my door so I had to cut it down. The wires to the battery compartment snapped after replacement so I had to return it. Batteries died in just 3 weeks. Also, there was no option to silence the loud beep upon entry. Replaced with an app based doorknob.

    • Cool lockable doorknob for an office, but kind of difficult to install

So I had a bit of a tough time installing this. I thought it might have been because of a mistake I made somewhere, so I was planning to try to take it apart and reinstall it before writing this review, but I've been kind of dreading it so I haven't done it. So I'm reviewing it based my experience installing it as is. I'll start by saying that I followed the instructions very carefully. They were pretty well written, and easy to follow. The difficulty was in execution of what they were saying to do. Most of the install went fine, and I won't really touch on that. There were two main problems I had/have with this doorknob. 1) when screwing together the two halves of the doorknob there's no guidance for how far/tight to go. If you go too far it won't really work. it's too tight. It's hard to know where the stopping point is, so you have to trial and error it. At least that was my experience. 2) My door won't close or effectively lock. So if I have the door open and I turn the handle, the latch should retreat back into the faceplate. If I turn it the other way it should pop back out all the way. This last part is crucial for it to be able to lock because it needs to extend into the strike plate. Mine doesn't do this. When I turn it, it usually will go most of the way into the faceplate, but when I turn it the other way it only comes out partially. Not enough to keep the door closed because it doesn't fully make it into the strike plate. I think my problem with #2 could be due to the fact that I had problems getting the latch inserted in the first place. Like the hole in the door was too tight for the latch. I really had to shove it in there. Though the latch from the doorknob I was replacing could smoothly go in and out and lock effectively. Not sure what's so different about this one. I think if I take this thing off and use something to sand down the inside of the hole in the door, so it can move a bit smoother, it might work properly. This could be the same thing causing the trouble with problem #1 above. The fingerprint function works well. It's easy to add fingers to it. it's very responsive when using it... though I don't really use it because the door can't lock as it is, so there's really no point. The green light looks kind of cool. The overall look of the doorknob is a bit cheap... It's not bad looking... just not a fan of it once it's on the door. Though that could be because of the trouble I've had with it so far. If I do end up taking this thing apart, widening the hole in my door and reinstalling, I will update with the results of my progress. ... show more
