I've been looking for a simple, heavy duty, basic water filtration system for a remodeling project on our home. I believe I've found that in this system. We currently have a single, similar sized, whole house sediment water filter under the house in the crawal space and a separate under the sink carbon filter for drinking water. This filter will replace both of those options with an easy to access, easy to monitor system that we can more easily work with, without having to belly crawal under the home to check on and change out. This system seems to be very durably made - almost bordering on overkill - but I'll take that over the more flimsy system we currently have. There are two points with this system that I really appreciate: The first is the brass interface which is a lot less likely to bind up or cross thread (and damage) during installation. The second is the double O-rings on each of the see through canisters. Our current filter only has a single O-ring which is challenging to keep in place when changing out the filter. Additionally, having a carbon filter as part of the whole house system, the bathroom water used for brushing teeth as well as the washing machine water will also be filtered. ... show more

I really only have two comments on this, not really complaints. First, there is no built-in bypass, which is always recommended. At this price, you wouldn't expect a built-in bypass, but the more expensive units have them. They do have relief valves, but no bypass. So if you want a bypass, you'll have to build one, which seems like more work and more expense than just getting a unit that has a bypass. Second, this is directional, flows from right to left. The manual didn't address this point, but you can easily flip it around to change the direction. You can't just swap out the filters, you need to unscrew the entire housing and flip it, then change the stickers that are on the mounting bracket. So if you don't think you need a bypass, or already have one, this is terrific. I will only get clear filter housings - they are a little more expensive but it's worth it to see what's going on inside. The instructions are well written and very clear (except that they don't address that one point). The filters are standard sized and easy to find replacements, 4.5x10. They include a filter wrench. Have this installed at our house for a few weeks. It works GREAT filtering out our high iron water and the yucky sulfur smell is completely gone because of the activated carbon filter. It was quite easy to install - since our house has pex - in my case I had to get a Pex to 1" NPT connection for both sides, turn off the water and connect. Did it in about 20 minutes and now I have great water throughout the whole house!! ... show more

This SimPure brand whole house filter features a compact short 10" x 4" design that allows it to be installed in tighter quarters than the average 20" x 4" versions. It also makes it easier to handle the cartridge change-outs and servicing. The housing is very robust and durable. It also has good quality fittings. The last filter I tested had leaks between the canisters that took a lot of teflon tape and sealant to get it to stop. This one is much better and more reliable. The filtration media gives very good performance but will need to be changed out on a more frequent service interval due to its smaller size. 6-12 months on the sediment and 3-6 on the carbon, depending on your supply water quality. 5 stars for quality. ... show more
