I've had a good but heavy old vacuum for years, and I bought a handvac to clean the car and for light clean up. The old vacuum did not get under counters and even my couches. The hand vac required too much bending and did not reachvery far under low furniture. I rarely vacuumed, and my floor got pretty dirty. This Shark Wandvac solved my problem. It was easy to assemble. It is very light weight . Te nosel gets under even my lowest furniture. In addition, the shaft above the nosel rotates 90 degrees so that I could reach way under my lowest furniture. This vacuum has strong enough suction to pick up most of the dirt in one pass over my wooden floors and area rugs. My rugs are small, light-weight oriental rugs, and even the hand vac picks them up and sucks in the fringes. The Shark Wandvac rarely sucks in the rug but istill picks up the dirt. The instructions say to empty the filter once a month, but my initial use of the vacuum filled it much faster. It's picking up a lot of dirt. The Shark Wandvac has two minor limitations for me. Although I have a pretty small (1400 sq ft) house, the battery ran down after vacuuming only half of he house. You can buy an extra battery pack, but this is a limitation. I vacuum half the house, do some other things, and vacuum the second half later. It was also a little hard to figure out how to open the filter chamber. When I figured it out, it popped open and dumped the contents on the floor. No harm done but be careful. There are some minor problems, but I have adjusted to them. I just got this vacuum, but it makes vacuuming gthe floor so easy that my floors are at last clean all the time, it picks up dirt efficiently, it gets undder everything, and it is so light that it makes cleaning the floor really easy. This vaccum is wonderful! It is so lightweight, and cleverly put together to give you all the features you need. I am not young, and this vaccum is perfect for me, as I still do all my own housework. I cannot say how it works on stairs, because I do not have any. My carpet still looks fantastic because this vaccum keeps it very clean! Works great on hardwood floors too. Some things that others may not like - you have to have a place to plug in the base to charge it, so it is hard to hide this in a closet. I just put it in the corner of my guest bedroom, but others may not want to do that. (I just put it in the closet when a guest comes!) Also, I think it could use a little longer tool to really reach under sofas or cabinets. Otherwise - perfect! ... show more

    • Light and handy with a design problem

For me this vacuum is great but it does have a design problem. I knew when I bought it that it that the battery would not last long and that it didn't hold much in the dust cup, so I really can't complain about those things. I don't think the battery lasts as long as they say if you're using the floor attachment. It does seem to go down less rapidly when using the hand vac only. It's easy to just stop by a wastebasket and dump the dust cup if it gets too full before you're finished. It's definitely not going to clean a big house in one session, but for daily tidying it works great for me, is light and handy, and I love being able to take off the hand vac and get into places the floor attachment won't fit, then replace it and keep going on the rest of the floor. I'm old and it's not heavy, so that's a big plus. I've been happy with the power, too. Seems much stronger than another brand cordless that I have, and the dog hair not getting wound around the roller is wonderful! That may be the best feature! BUT, there is a design problem with the dust cup. The diagram for removing the filter from the dust cup is inaccurate. The lid would not open far enough for the filter to come out. Shark customer service had no advice except to apply more pressure. I was afraid it would break, so I returned it and when I got the replacement vacuum I checked that part first. It's got the same design problem, but I could pry the new one open far enough to remove the filter if I work at it. They really need to redesign that part. I see on their website that it is out of stock, as is the battery. So my tip is to check to see whether you can remove the filter for thorough cleaning when you get yours, before you keep it a month and find out it won't come out and you and can't return it to Amazon. It's not something you have to do every day. It's shown in Figure 3 under Cleaning the Dust Cup and Filter. Also, don't put the stand together until you're sure you're keeping it because it can't be disassembled and would be hard to repack after assembly. Concerning all the complaints about customer service, I went through back and forth on Facebook giving all the numbers they asked for, including the number on the electrical plug (!), and even sending a picture of the problem and was then, after a day or so of this, told I had to call and go through troubleshooting on the phone and give them all the numbers again. I don't consider that excellent customer service and that's why I just returned the product and got a replacement. I just hope nothing goes wrong with it during the warranty period. I have a corded Shark vacuum and have never had any problems with it. Deduct a star for the dust cup problem. If not for that it would be five stars for my use. ... show more
