Honestly, this is one of my better purchases for vacuums. Going from the top down. The main part of the vacuum is easy to handle with it's grip. Easy button to activate the product and the little trigger to change settings. The eco mode is good for certain carpets or rugs that pull up as it seemingly guides it. The power detect mode is ideal for conserving battery life while it automatically activates a powerful mode when it detects clutter and stuff. The hardcore mode as I call it does it's job and gets those tough items and dirt but eats the battery life. The compartment for dirt, lent, etc is at least for me perfect for me. Kind of wished it could open a different way but nonetheless all the dirt comes out, even with a bit of fingering. Also you can see the bettery life on the display which is so nice. The one I have has the adjustable stem which is perfect for those hard to reach places and storage as you are able to unhook it which morphs for more advantageous storage option. The main vacuum part grabs everything and I mean everything. It outperforms my Bissel clunk vacuum and the difference is night and day. I would say have pliers nearby as it collects everything and can become clogged but even clogged, it still performs perfectly. Noise sounds like a small jet engine but you see the results. Highly recommend, only complaint...battery life could be a bit better especially for the "hardcore mode" as it drains the battery but can be overlooked by the results. And one of the accessories could fit a bit tighter, still works regardless but certain spots just brace it.

Update: Do Not Buy This!!! They never had an extra battery back in stock. I bought this in January of 2025. It is August 2025 now. Today, my battery quit. I always keep it plugged in when not using it so it should have been fully charged. It died just as I was finishing up the last room. It has never ever came close to dying previously. According to the manual, it takes 6 hours to charge from dead. I have it plugged in now. I looked at their website-no battery. The batteries have a 2 year warrenty but they can't send what they don't have. I called customer service who was very very nice and I have had it escalated upword. I was offered a new vacuum but I don't need a new vaccum just the battery and it would be beyond ridiculous to trash a perfectly good vaccuum and I don't have the room to store an extra one. I should have sent it back after purchase when I discovered that an extra battery wasn't available. There must be batteries somewhere because they are still making these as far as I know and all the new ones come with batteries. They should just canabilize a unit and send it to me. I will update this reveiw when a final resolution is made. It will probably be me just trashing the thing after all and buying a different brand. If Shark won't support their products, I will not continue to buy anything from them. Including their Ninja products! Original Review. I have used Shark products for decades. My last stick was a Shark Ion Duo that finally gave out. This one has some new improvements. I like the automatic carpet to floor adjustment and the edge detect. However it does have some issues: 1. It needs a edge detect on the front of the machine too. There are some areas that are on edges but you can't get the machines edges turned that direction to clean because there is no room. Like in the kitchen area if you have an "L" or "U" shaped kitchen. 2. It really does good on MOST carpets and hard surfaces. It does fine with my nubby commercial foot wipe mats at the front and back doors. It does not glide as easily over my plush dining room area rug as my old Shark did. It requires some pushing. It is absolutely horrible on my living room area rug. I have to vacuum in very particular directions depending where I am at on the rug. The rug is multi level. It is designed as squares with a low tuft "nubby" design in each one. Kind of resembling a tapestry. The squares are joined together with "stripes" of higher tuft plush carpet between the squares and surrounding the whole rug. My older Shark vacuum glided over it effortlessly on the "Carpet" setting no matter what direction I vacuumed. Not this one. If I am not vaccuming in the "correct" direction in a particular section of the carpet, it will not budge. I have to either pick it up and put forward of the section and then pull the vacuum backwards or go around my coffee table to the other side to move forward. There must just be a visually imperceptable difference in the tufts directionality or it just doesn't like the very frequent shift in height . Whatever the reason, that carpet is a PIA to vaccuum. Fortunately, for now, we found a replacement motor for the old one on Ebay. Should have done that first! The old one now works. If we had done that first, we wouldn't have needed the new one. :( 3. Shark is not fully supporting this unit yet. I wanted to buy an extra battery but it has yet to be in stock at Sharks website. Initially, I considered sending the unit back because of this. However, the battery lasts much longer than the Duo Cleans did. I had 3 for that one and I had 2 charging in it's special Duo charger and one in the vaccuum at all times. It did not charge while in the vacuum. With the new one, I plug it in while I am between rooms ( I dust, vac and mop one room at a time and then go to the next) and I have yet to run out of life. However, sooner or later that one will start charging less efficiently and then I will need a new one so it does bother me that I can't get one. Other accessories for this product are not in stock either. 4. The dirt collection unit removal latch is difficult to find as well as the latch to actually dump it. The instructions are not helpful. I know I could have purchased the fancy auto dirt dump unit that goes with it but I am not paying that much extra for a small convenience. 5. On my old Shark ION Duo, taking the head off to use the wand was a simple process. There was a nice little lever that you used your foot to press. Easy! On this new one, there is a depressable button that you have to use your hands for. This means laying the vacuum down on a high flat surface or stand it on the couch in order to press it. unless you have the strenght to hold it up with one hand and press with the other. Since the head would then fall to the floor, I don't reccomend that. Otherwise you have to prop it up with one hand and squat and press the button with the other. This feature has definitly regressed in functionality. NTM, my hand strength has decresed over the years (I am 72) due to arthritis and Carpal Tunnell surgery and the button is difficult for me to press hard enough to get the dang thing off. 6. On my old Duo, there was a nice handle just for lifting the thing to carry it from room to room. Not on the new one. This is a PIA if you have different levels. 7. Like my old Shark, once you remove the head you are lightless. I have solved this issue (on both old and new) by rigging up a Macgyver. I take a "pencil" flashlight and tape it to the wand with shipping tape wrapped around it and I just turn it on when I need it. It seems like Shark could create an integrated solution to this. Note to Shark, lots of cleaning gets done when it is dark. Surprise! 8. No Hair Wrap!!!! It lives up to this claim. I have hair past my shoulders and I seem to shed it all the time even though it never seems any thinner. On the old ION Duo, I had to clip the hair from the brush at least weekly and it was a royal PIA. The fact that this doesn't need it, partly makes up for some of it's other shortcomings.

I've been really impressed with the Shark PowerDetect Pet Plus Clean & Empty Vacuum. It has excellent suction and picks up pet hair, dust, and debris with ease, even from carpets. The PowerDetect technology adjusts automatically, which makes cleaning more efficient without having to constantly change settings. The battery lasts long enough to tackle multiple rooms on a single charge. I also love the Clean & Empty system—it makes emptying the dust bin quick, easy, and much less messy. Overall, this vacuum has made keeping up with pet hair and everyday messes so much easier! It’s powerful, convenient, and well worth the investment. We purchased this vacuum and we have had it for several months. We have a lot of pet hair and our prior unit just could not handle it. This unit does handle it. And shockingly it does not clog! It has a very wide opening and wide pathway into the receptacle. It does a pretty good job in most areas and I’ve been really happy with how it bends and how it fits under couches and furniture and how light weight it is. I really like the auto empty container part. It has a good battery time. It’s easier to tell how much battery is left. It is easy to figure out how to use and maneuver. The reason I did not give it five stars is because we do not just use it as a vacuum for the floor. We put attachments on it regularly and we try to use it for corners and baseboards and ceiling corners and ceiling, fans and vents and blinds and stuff like that. And in these areas, honestly it’s just a failure. I just am not happy with it at all on anything but the floor. I don’t think that it has the same suction power with the attachments on it, and there are only two attachments and the vacuum base only has space to hold one of those. It just doesn’t work well on those things. I literally kept my old vacuum for these areas. I don’t know why it struggles in these areas, but it definitely lost the unit a star in it’s rating from me

I'm so glad I finally opted to purchase a cordless vacuum instead of a corded one! Did I need to get one this fancy? ...I'm not sure I needed to. I've been using this vacuum for about three months now. I decided to go with this model because of the high rating that Vacuum Wars gave it. My apartment has a lot of carpet, so I needed something that could handle carpet well while also performing decently in the smaller vinyl-floored spaces we have. The dual brush rollers do a fantastic job. They do so well, in fact, that I empty it about three times in the process of vacuuming my 1100 sq ft apartment at once. The canister gets filled pretty quickly, but I also noticed that I started having to empty it so that all the fluff and fur don't mess with the PowerDetect system (elaborated on more below). This makes me very glad that I did not get the premium version that empties with its own auto-empty dock because that would be impractical since I have to empty the canister every 7 minutes. It seems that when the stuff that I vacuum starts wrapping around the metal cone near the filter, the vacuum thinks that the floor is "dirtier" and thus uses the higher power setting to try to compensate for the loss of suction that it detects with its PowerDetect system. In a way, this just reminds me that I need to empty the waste canister. I'm not sure that the special power-changing feature is worth the extra money, though. The other "perk" that this vacuum features with this detection system is that it senses when the vacuum is by an edge and increases the suction on that side to help pick up debris more efficiently. This sounds like a good idea, but I find it doesn't really help too much because I usually don't go all the way along the edge of a wall long enough for the vacuum to do its job. One could argue that this is user error; I'm just arguing that it's a feature that doesn't get used enough with practical usage. Battery run time, as usual with any battery-powered device, does not live up to the advertised 70-minute run time. I know that this is assuming that the vacuum is on the lowest power setting and isn't necessarily what the consumer can expect to get with average use. I find that I can just barely finish vacuuming my whole apartment in one round with the vacuum. A quirk is that if you turn the vacuum off when the battery is around half or below and then try to turn it back on, sometimes it won't because it says the battery is too low. If it does turn on, it sometimes shows a decrease from what the battery capacity remaining was displaying ten seconds before. The final thing of note is that the vacuum cannot stand up on its own. You can't set it in the corner easily because the top is too heavy. That's why you have to bend it and store it hunched over. This might be marketed as a feature, but it seems like it was just a weird way of not fixing an issue and pretending it was intentional. Overall, is this a good vacuum? Yes it is! It cleans well. I just don't think that it is worth spending more money for a fancier vacuum with features that don't seem to make much of a difference with average-consumer usage. I would be curious to try a cheaper cordless vacuum with dual brush rollers because I think that would do about the same job. Edit 10 months later: I changed the review to 5 stars because, well, the vacuum works! I’m glad I got it at this point. The only “drawbacks” I’ve been noticing are how quickly the container fills up and how I sometimes can’t do the entire apartment at once. However, the vacuum is easy to use. I don’t constantly think, “Man, this doesn’t work/I wish I got a different one/I wish this worked better…” The vacuum does the job. I’m not sure that a cheaper one would do as good of a job on the essentials. Do I need the extra features? Not necessarily. But maybe, to get good basic performance, it happens to have other features as well? Overall, it’s a good vacuum. I’d recommend it.

We love this vacuum! Thank you to all the people who write a detailed review about the vacuums they have used to help me make my choice. I was lost in review reading land for hours to make my choice to replace our stick vacuum (it was not a Shark brand, was super light weight, nothing fancy). I have used both my son’s Dyson stick vacuums many times and they had dogs and young children. My review is for the PREMIUM Shark PowerDetect Stick Vacuum. I purchased during Prime Days. I have owned two full sized Shark vacuums in the past and haven’t had issues with them other than I wear out the hose because I vacuum corners and edges so often they need to be taped together! My vacuums get a lot of use. The factors that helped me: >>Dust cup closes fully-the self emptying style has issues with magnets getting dirty and causes dust to fly as you vacuum, always need to check it. Also, I will need to empty the dust collector unit for the auto dump style because that larger dust bin collector doesn’t take itself to the trash bin. So I decided I can empty the dirt/dust cup each time I use the model that doesn’t auto-dump. Doesn’t bother me.>> LOVE the bend in the handle to reach under my sofa, bar cabinet, beds. Easier to turn when under furniture than I expected. I had a friend who has a back issues try it and she said it was easy for her to use under the bed. >>My 7 year old grandson used it to vacuum under the beds and he said the vacuum pulls forward which his Dyson at home doesn’t do. He did mention it was a little bit of work to pull it back and I told him it’s because it vacuums in reverse as it does going forward but isn’t self propelled going backward. >>I kept trying to fold the vacuum forward I needed to remember to bend it back like a birds leg! >>The lights change color as the vacuum changes speed and brush rotation as it goes from area rug to wood floor to tile. >>It increases suction when I vacuum into a corner, why do I think it’s cool to hear it rev up to get that corner clean? Is it a little cumbersome? Yes, but I don’t have to fiddle with anything to get the dust/dirt cup off and then back onto the vacuum. >>The manufacturer includes information how to order parts including information to order a new battery. >>The front edge of the vacuum head has a very soft edge my grandkids said it’s as soft as a stuffy (toy) and I’m sure that helps with trapping fine pieces off the floor. The roller brush is behind that edge. >>It weighs 8 pounds which is fine for me of weight is an issue then you need a power stick vacuum with less power or maybe a smaller battery. Usually batteries add weight. I haven’t run out of battery yet. >>I can’t believe how well this vacuum picks up dog hair!! I'll preface this by saying that this is a pretty good vacuum overall, and I would likely buy it again at the Black Friday sale price. That's the shorthand review, for the longer version, read on. First the good, and foremost, it functions great at cleaning the floors (provided you keep up with the filter, more on that later). Does great on hardwood, does great on rugs...and the Powerdetect feature which switches between the two automatically, no clue how it works but it does it flawlessly. The tangle-free brush functions even better than Shark's previous versions of it. We've got a GP dog who sheds like crazy, and I've yet to have to detangle all that from winding around the brush, so I'm very pleased with that. However, the front roller will occasionally build up hair/debris where the comb is, but luckily it's super easy to clean out by popping out the roller. Hair will also occasionally build up where the 2 little wheels are, to the point they won't spin easily. Cleaning those is a little more involved, requires using a small flathead screwdriver to pop the wheels out to clean them out. Highly doubtful the manufacturer recommends actually doing this, but I found no other option to get the wheels to spin freely again (that applies to all the Shark vacs I owned...I'm on my 4th one). The battery is great...again, provided you keep up with the filter, and again more on that later. Our house is near 3k sq ft, and I've got plenty of reserve power after I'm done vacuuming. With my previous cordless Sharks, I had to prioritize areas because I'd run out of juice near the end, and would have to finish up after a recharge. I also very much like that they now have a charge meter, and not just 3 lights indicating level of charge left. The auto-empty dock/charger is so awesome! It's too easy, just stick the vacuum on there, and it does its thing. You obviously do have to empty the dock's cannister eventually, but its large capacity means you don't have to do that too often. We vacuum pretty much everyday, and I empty it maybe once/week if that. So those are all positives, but there are a few downsides to this vacuum. My main gripe is the amount of debris which gets past the initial filter in the vacuum's cannister, clogging up the foam filter (see pics). The previous Sharks I owned all had a wire mesh cannister filter, so all bigger particles and major dust would stay in the cannister, and only fine dust would get past it to the foam filter. The foam filters did eventually require cleaning or replacing as well, but I've never had dust get past them as well, all the way to the HEPA filter. But on this vacuum, the vac's cannister filter is plastic mesh with fairly large openings. Consequently, a lot of debris (including not just dust) gets past it and works it's way to the foam filter, with some dust getting past the foam filter as well, and getting to the HEPA filter in a short period of time...I've only had this vacuum for like 3 wks and the HEPA filter is already showing some dust on it. So basically, although yes this vacuum is auto-emptying with the doc, it's certainly not maintenance free. I find myself having to disassemble the cannister and clean the foam filters every other vacuuming or so...whereas with the previous Sharks, I had to do it maybe every 20th vacuuming. So that itself kind of sux, but more importantly, I suspect this filter issue is the main cause for the negative reviews here about loss of suction and poor battery performance. With this filter requiring servicing so much more regularly than expected, I'm sure owners are unintentionally not addressing it, and consequently are losing suction, with the battery working overtime trying to compensate for it thx to the Powerdetect feature. Next is the issue with the vacuum head locking in the stowing position. It does this just way too easily when unintentional, requiring you to constantly having to unlock it by stepping on the vacuum head. Between this and the trigger on the handle (more on that below), I find myself paying more attention to how I handle this vacuum than I should have to be. And in any case, the locking head is not even warranted here, considering this vacuum has a dock as opposed to being free-standing when stowed. So this is just an entirely pointless feature which is also a total hassle. My other gripe is fairly trivial, but it does bug, and that's the button placement. You would think the power button would be the trigger on the handle, and the power level selection would be the push button on the vacuum head, but nope. I can't get used to this, and keep hitting the trigger to turn the vacuum off, only then to have to scroll through the options to get back to the Powerdetect level. And then also, the trigger is so sensitive, that I often accidentally hit it by accident while vacuuming, changing the power level...this combined with that locking vacuum head just makes for a needless hassle while vacuuming. My final gripe is a long-standing issue with Shark vacuums in general, after they changed their brush head removal mechanisms from their original design. Yrs ago, they had a little tab on the brush head which you pressed down with your foot, and then pulled off the wand. This was so handy, just pop the wand out of the brush head in order to reach some cobwebs in the ceiling, or some dirt in a crevice or whatever, and then pop the wand back in and go back to vacuuming. Now you got to reach down, push the button, wiggle the darned wand out of the brush head...just annoying to use when you need the wand on it's own for said purpose. Anyways, wow long review, hopefully this will help somebody. Long story short, pretty good vacuum, things to praise, some things not to, but overall a good buy...PROVIDED you get it at a sale price. I see this thing currently (12/12/25) listed at $580, I mean there's NO WAY it's worth this price, sorry.
