I did a lot of research before buying this and glad I did. It's my first cordless and, maybe I just got lucky but I couldn't be happier with it. It has plenty of suction power. You name it and it sucks it up from cat hair to kibble, cheerios to rice. It has a sensor that "knows" when it's on carpet and automatically the vacuum increases power. Then when it gets on vinyl/smooth flooring it knows and and automatically lowers the power a bit but still easily sucks up everything without flinging it back. It also has sensors and knows when you get close to a wall and automatically increases power so it gets everything close to the wall. The other thing it has sensor(s) for is that it "knows" is when it is sucking up more dirt in a particular spot and so also speeds up to be sure it gets it all. All that speeding up when needed and then slowing down, is to save battery power without sacrificing cleaning. I've run it for about 30 minutes in that "auto" mode and still had a little bit of battery power left. You can manually set it to a constant low or high power but I've left it on the middle, automatic power detect setting and let it decide how much power to use and when to use it (or not). It does such a good job on that setting that I see no reason to change it. I suspect on a constant high setting your battery would run out of juice pretty quickly, probably in 15 minutes or so. I also find that I use the flex wand more than I thought I would. Great for getting under beds or whatever without bending over so much to do so. When you're finished vacuuming, just stick it on the docking station and the docking station sucks out the dirt from the vacuum cleaner and puts that dirt in a docking station container. When docked, it also recharges the battery. That dock station container holds a lot so you don't need to empty it very often maybe once a month or so, if that much depending on your situation. When you do need to empty the docking station container, it easily disconnects from the docking station with one hand. Take the container and hold it over garbage can, push a lever and the bottom opens up and dumps everything in garbage can. I wish it came with more attachments. Mine came with two and neither had a brush which I really would like to have. I also wish there was some onboard way to carry one or more of the attachments on the vacuum itself. I know it is expensive, but this baby is worth every penny. It picks up dirt, dog hair, and all the rest even better than my big vacuum used to. The canister isn’t as big as I wish I was, but I don’t even care with how amazing it is. The auto empty feature makes up for it since I don’t have to go out to the kitchen and dump a canister then reattach it, and repeat. No cord to trip over is a bonus. I do recommend a second battery if you like to vacuum more than 20-25 minutes on carpet. I use the smart sense feature which still picks up all the nasty on my carpets. Works on my couches, pillows, mattress, hardwood floors, and medium pill carpet. I think it would do well on high pill carpet too. It also works on my bathroom mats. What a rollercoaster of a vacuum experience! I was so pleased that Shark had a cordless vacuum since my corded Shark has been a surprisingly effective vacuum. This Shark, though a bit expensive, I was sure would make good on the promise that the Shark brand carries. For the first few weeks, it did. The controls are a bit wonky, but it didn't take long to master the features. What suction--almost too much, if you can imagine that. One definite drawback is that it cannot stand on its' own. I knew this going into it, so that's fine. The weight and feel of the vacuum was excellent. The auto-empty system worked flawlessly. Nice system--or so I thought! A couple of months into proudly owning this cordless vacuum (just outside of the return policy window), it completely fails to power-up. It seemingly holds a charge but quickly and quietly whimpers when the start button is depressed. I took it apart (not an over-the-top deconstruction, just taking the basic parts apart and inspecting for clogs or whatever could possibly go wrong), confirmed that it kept a charge, and then put it back together again yet it continued to fail. Just the sound of a click, a quick but incomplete powering-up then nothing. Silence. It's going to be difficult to go back to a corded vacuum. Great vacuum. Make sure you don’t clog it every so often as it does easily clog. But it’s easy to clear the clogs as well. Lightweight, great suction power. We use it daily and never had a problem!

I replaced my high powered Kirby with this after it quit, knowing that it would be a trade-off between power and some of the features that the Shark has (way lighter, no cord, no bags). After several months of use pros are: really nice maneuverability, charge lasts long enough for me to get through most of my house on the high-powered mode. Cons: well this does a decent enough job picking up pet hair, it gets clogged in the brush and needs to be manually pulled out after 2 uses or so; not great on carpeting- I only have a few small area rugs, and you can only run this on the low power mode over rugs without the rug getting sucked up into the brush. So it doesn’t always feel like you’re getting it as clean as it could be. Regardless of these cons, the size, lightness, and ease of use made this a worthwhile purchase. ... show more

This is my first hardwood sweeper and man I wish I had bought this sooner. The lights seemed worthless at first but they really do help see if you miss something. Havent ran out of battery while using yet. The self empty is awesome. Picks up so much hair, no dogs just 3 girls. The power detect works well if there is alot of debris on the floor and next to baseboards. The handle bending is a useful feature. Weight is good and head maneuvers easily. No issues with durability and being cordless is a huge benefit we use it several times a day with 4 kids. If it broke I would instantly purchase this again! ... show more
