I did a lot of research before buying this and glad I did. It's my first cordless and, maybe I just got lucky but I couldn't be happier with it. It has plenty of suction power. You name it and it sucks it up from cat hair to kibble, cheerios to rice. It has a sensor that "knows" when it's on carpet and automatically the vacuum increases power. Then when it gets on vinyl/smooth flooring it knows and and automatically lowers the power a bit but still easily sucks up everything without flinging it back. It also has sensors and knows when you get close to a wall and automatically increases power so it gets everything close to the wall. The other thing it has sensor(s) for is that it "knows" is when it is sucking up more dirt in a particular spot and so also speeds up to be sure it gets it all. All that speeding up when needed and then slowing down, is to save battery power without sacrificing cleaning. I've run it for about 30 minutes in that "auto" mode and still had a little bit of battery power left. You can manually set it to a constant low or high power but I've left it on the middle, automatic power detect setting and let it decide how much power to use and when to use it (or not). It does such a good job on that setting that I see no reason to change it. I suspect on a constant high setting your battery would run out of juice pretty quickly, probably in 15 minutes or so. I also find that I use the flex wand more than I thought I would. Great for getting under beds or whatever without bending over so much to do so. When you're finished vacuuming, just stick it on the docking station and the docking station sucks out the dirt from the vacuum cleaner and puts that dirt in a docking station container. When docked, it also recharges the battery. That dock station container holds a lot so you don't need to empty it very often maybe once a month or so, if that much depending on your situation. When you do need to empty the docking station container, it easily disconnects from the docking station with one hand. Take the container and hold it over garbage can, push a lever and the bottom opens up and dumps everything in garbage can. I wish it came with more attachments. Mine came with two and neither had a brush which I really would like to have. I also wish there was some onboard way to carry one or more of the attachments on the vacuum itself. This vacuum is incredible. The item shipped well and was in perfect shape. All the parts were included. The instructions were clear to understand. I vacuum hardwood and tile floors. The soft brush roller does an incredible job and getting even the finest dust and leaving the floors so clean. I use it on an area run in front of an entrance door. The lights are a great help to indicate if it is detecting any dirt. It makes it easy to just keep vacuuming j til the lights turn white. I am amazed at how much dirt it picks up even vacuuming everyday. I can see some particles getting sucked towards it from several inches away. Definitely wait for a deal. I got the premium version on sale for less than the essential version on sale. The only difference is the attachments. What a great vacuum. Shark quality is unmatchable. Battery life on eco is about 45 mins. I have never run out but noticed it was getting low after about 30 mins of vacuuming. Great vacuum. Highly recommend. ... show more

What a rollercoaster of a vacuum experience! I was so pleased that Shark had a cordless vacuum since my corded Shark has been a surprisingly effective vacuum. This Shark, though a bit expensive, I was sure would make good on the promise that the Shark brand carries. For the first few weeks, it did. The controls are a bit wonky, but it didn't take long to master the features. What suction--almost too much, if you can imagine that. One definite drawback is that it cannot stand on its' own. I knew this going into it, so that's fine. The weight and feel of the vacuum was excellent. The auto-empty system worked flawlessly. Nice system--or so I thought! A couple of months into proudly owning this cordless vacuum (just outside of the return policy window), it completely fails to power-up. It seemingly holds a charge but quickly and quietly whimpers when the start button is depressed. I took it apart (not an over-the-top deconstruction, just taking the basic parts apart and inspecting for clogs or whatever could possibly go wrong), confirmed that it kept a charge, and then put it back together again yet it continued to fail. Just the sound of a click, a quick but incomplete powering-up then nothing. Silence. It's going to be difficult to go back to a corded vacuum. We were looking for a do-it-all light vacuum with a focus on convenience and after much research selected this. Happy to say it exceeds all expectations. Generally this is a great value vacuum packed with features that are useful and effective. iIn general order of importance Pros: -Effectiveness on multiple floor surfaces- we have tile with lots of area rugs downstairs and medium pile carpets upstairs. This works well on them all. The floor detect feature is awesome, it seamlessly steps up the brush speed as soon as it transitions from tile to rug. It works great, as does the dirt and edge detect. -Convenience- The thing is always ready to work when you need it, it’s just grab and go, and then at the end, it empties itself and recharges. The auto empty base is far and away the best feature. It basically makes it so you can store months of vacuuming without having to do anything. -The roller is AWESOME. It just powers through all sizes of debris and surfaces. And no hair wraps which is a big deal usually in my house. Love it. Cons- -Weight: not much of a con for me but it’s heavier than some. it doesn’t bother me, and the articulating arm makes it really easy to maneuver under furniture. -display- less feature rich than vacuum double the price, but do i really need to know the size distribution of the debris I’m vacuuming? I don’t think so. So again, not really much of a con. -This is not a full size vacuum!!!! If you want the power of a plug in upright, get an upright. For a battery powered stick vac, this thing exceeds all expectations, but it’s not connected to wall power. ... show more
