This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Shark IQ RV1001 is highly praised for its efficiency in cleaning floors and its user-friendly setup process. Users have noted that it is good at navigating around furniture, picking up fine dust, and securely returning to its base station. There has been some minor issues with it getting tangled in long hair, but the users find it easy to clean. Battery life lasts about an hour with a two-hour recharge time.

Pros

  • πŸ‘ Easy setup and connectivity with Wi-Fi
  • πŸš€ Efficient navigation, very rarely gets caught
  • πŸ”‡ Operates quietly, can carry on conversation in the same room
  • πŸ’ͺ Strong suction, particularly good at picking up dust and sand
  • πŸ›° Always finds its way back to the base station

Cons

  • 😐 Battery life is decent but could be improved, lasts about an hour
  • πŸ’‡ Can get entangled with long hair, but it's easy to clean
  • πŸ“‘ Software and Wi-Fi connection could be smoother, though still adequate

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a robot vacuum that cleans thoroughly and is easy to use and manage, the Shark IQ RV1001 comes highly recommended. You'll have to do some minor maintenance like cleaning out the dust bin and removing entangled hair, but overall, the convenience and quality of cleaning make it a worth purchase.

  • cleans well
The robot vacuum works well. My main concern was whether I could use it to vacuum the main floor as well as the basement. I called Shark and got both a yes and no answer from different people on the help line. One person said don't use the vacuum on the basement until after the vacuum had learned the main floor. That took about 10 vacuumings, that's what I did, and that works. So, I move the dock/vacuum down to the basement and up to main floor. The vacuum does both floors well. Shark, at least when I bought the vacuum, has real human beings offering support. Some are good, so if you aren't helped the first time, try again. All of them were polite and did try to help. Both the software and connecting to wifi should be better, can be a hassle, but they are adequate if not particularly good. The important thing is that the vacuum does a pretty good of cleaning. The vacuum can't do miracles. I spend about 5 minutes lifting kitchen chairs onto the kitchen table, and lifting other stuff that is light enough so the vacuum can get to those areas. This preparation really helps and doesn't take long. Also, I have a cordless vacuum which really complements a robot vacuum. The cordless can be used to touch up behind doors, in between robot vacuumings, and to clean stuff the robot misses. I find the robot misses little, and overall, does about as well as when I manually vacuum. However, one place the robot excels is under the beds. The first two times I ran the robot, the robot was chock full of dust. Now, I run the robot once a week (our children are grown and long gone, no pets) and the dust cup is a quarter full after doing both floors. The robot takes about 2 hours to fully charge. The robot takes one and half hours to clean the main floor and that uses 80% of the battery. The robot is not silent which I like because I can hear that it is working. I don't find it to be disruptive, but I wouldn't try to listen to a Shakespeare play while it was cleaning in the same room. The robot detects and doesn't fall down stairs: no barriers are needed. Shark brags about the self cleaning brush roll, and to give them their due, I haven't had to clean brush in the 10 months I've owned the robot. I use my power blower to clean the dust bin outside. I like to think Jeff Dunham would be proud. The robot has gotten stuck a couple of times. Every time, I found the problem to be something that was easy to take care of, such as lifting bed sheets dragging on the floor onto the bed to prevent the sheet from getting stuck in the robot's roller brush. I never thought that the robot should have been able to avoid getting stuck. ... show more

  • I LOVE THIS THING!
I read all the reviews, decided to get it regardless of some negatives. First off we call it "Monkey" because when we first started using it the machine would try to climb up on things like the bottom of bookshelves, use the magnet strips and that problem was solved! It is not at all noisy, can I hear it going about the house? Yes, I can! But if it gets to the master bedroom and bath I can not hear it. Is the noise level bothersome? NO! The sound it makes is quite easy to tolerate and I sort of enjoy hearing it go about doing my dirty work, LOL. I did not purchase the self dumping model, I figured the least I could do is dump the bin once a week, and I am glad I got this model because when I dump the bin I remove the paper filter and rinse the bin in the sink, then I set it aside to dry, when dry place the filter back in and it is ready to run. When I dump the bin I also inspect the bottom of the machine to be sure everything is good and nothing is stuck. HAIR? I have lots of really long hair that hangs below my bottom, I have yet to find one strand wrapped around the brush (and it cleans my bathroom where most of that hair lands in the carpet). Pets? I have 'em! I have a Cavalier and a Frenchie, both are horrific shedders and leave hair all over the carpets, the Cavalier has long silky hair that you can see EVERYWHERE! The Monkey gets it all cleaned up nice and tidy. I love this part, my carpets look so much better! The Shark does a good job of eventually mapping your home, give it time and it gets better adapted each run, when we first got ours we had Christmas up and everywhere and the Shark learned to navigate around all of it, then when Christmas was taken down I did not reset the map, I just let it go (as an experiment) and it discovered all the changes on it's own! It is not designed to give your floors a "deep clean" obviously that will still require elbow grease and an old fashioned vac, but this machine has vastly improved my life, the bin is full every time I empty it and the floors look great! Make sure all your doors are fully opened and pick up everything off the floor before running it, it can get trapped behind half opened doors. If it does get stuck it just tells you it is stuck and it shuts off until you come and fetch it, when this happens I just return it to the dock and let it recharge, then send it back out but this has only happened a few times. The phone app works good, for fun I sent the Monkey out to clean the floor while I was 200 miles away from home but hubby was home, he was surprised! ... show more
