🚀 Abunda's Overview

This is our summary and key points to consider based on customer reviews.

The Shark IQ RV1001 is highly praised for its efficiency in cleaning floors and its user-friendly setup process. Users have noted that it is good at navigating around furniture, picking up fine dust, and securely returning to its base station. There has been some minor issues with it getting tangled in long hair, but the users find it easy to clean. Battery life lasts about an hour with a two-hour recharge time.

Pros

  • 👍 Easy setup and connectivity with Wi-Fi
  • 🚀 Efficient navigation, very rarely gets caught
  • 🔇 Operates quietly, can carry on conversation in the same room
  • 💪 Strong suction, particularly good at picking up dust and sand
  • 🛰 Always finds its way back to the base station

Cons

  • 😐 Battery life is decent but could be improved, lasts about an hour
  • 💇 Can get entangled with long hair, but it's easy to clean
  • 📡 Software and Wi-Fi connection could be smoother, though still adequate

Should I Buy It?

If you're looking for a robot vacuum that cleans thoroughly and is easy to use and manage, the Shark IQ RV1001 comes highly recommended. You'll have to do some minor maintenance like cleaning out the dust bin and removing entangled hair, but overall, the convenience and quality of cleaning make it a worth purchase.

  • cleans well
The robot vacuum works well. My main concern was whether I could use it to vacuum the main floor as well as the basement. I called Shark and got both a yes and no answer from different people on the help line. One person said don't use the vacuum on the basement until after the vacuum had learned the main floor. That took about 10 vacuumings, that's what I did, and that works. So, I move the dock/vacuum down to the basement and up to main floor. The vacuum does both floors well. Shark, at least when I bought the vacuum, has real human beings offering support. Some are good, so if you aren't helped the first time, try again. All of them were polite and did try to help. Both the software and connecting to wifi should be better, can be a hassle, but they are adequate if not particularly good. The important thing is that the vacuum does a pretty good of cleaning. The vacuum can't do miracles. I spend about 5 minutes lifting kitchen chairs onto the kitchen table, and lifting other stuff that is light enough so the vacuum can get to those areas. This preparation really helps and doesn't take long. Also, I have a cordless vacuum which really complements a robot vacuum. The cordless can be used to touch up behind doors, in between robot vacuumings, and to clean stuff the robot misses. I find the robot misses little, and overall, does about as well as when I manually vacuum. However, one place the robot excels is under the beds. The first two times I ran the robot, the robot was chock full of dust. Now, I run the robot once a week (our children are grown and long gone, no pets) and the dust cup is a quarter full after doing both floors. The robot takes about 2 hours to fully charge. The robot takes one and half hours to clean the main floor and that uses 80% of the battery. The robot is not silent which I like because I can hear that it is working. I don't find it to be disruptive, but I wouldn't try to listen to a Shakespeare play while it was cleaning in the same room. The robot detects and doesn't fall down stairs: no barriers are needed. Shark brags about the self cleaning brush roll, and to give them their due, I haven't had to clean brush in the 10 months I've owned the robot. I use my power blower to clean the dust bin outside. I like to think Jeff Dunham would be proud. The robot has gotten stuck a couple of times. Every time, I found the problem to be something that was easy to take care of, such as lifting bed sheets dragging on the floor onto the bed to prevent the sheet from getting stuck in the robot's roller brush. I never thought that the robot should have been able to avoid getting stuck. ... show more

  • I LOVE THIS THING!
I read all the reviews, decided to get it regardless of some negatives. First off we call it "Monkey" because when we first started using it the machine would try to climb up on things like the bottom of bookshelves, use the magnet strips and that problem was solved! It is not at all noisy, can I hear it going about the house? Yes, I can! But if it gets to the master bedroom and bath I can not hear it. Is the noise level bothersome? NO! The sound it makes is quite easy to tolerate and I sort of enjoy hearing it go about doing my dirty work, LOL. I did not purchase the self dumping model, I figured the least I could do is dump the bin once a week, and I am glad I got this model because when I dump the bin I remove the paper filter and rinse the bin in the sink, then I set it aside to dry, when dry place the filter back in and it is ready to run. When I dump the bin I also inspect the bottom of the machine to be sure everything is good and nothing is stuck. HAIR? I have lots of really long hair that hangs below my bottom, I have yet to find one strand wrapped around the brush (and it cleans my bathroom where most of that hair lands in the carpet). Pets? I have 'em! I have a Cavalier and a Frenchie, both are horrific shedders and leave hair all over the carpets, the Cavalier has long silky hair that you can see EVERYWHERE! The Monkey gets it all cleaned up nice and tidy. I love this part, my carpets look so much better! The Shark does a good job of eventually mapping your home, give it time and it gets better adapted each run, when we first got ours we had Christmas up and everywhere and the Shark learned to navigate around all of it, then when Christmas was taken down I did not reset the map, I just let it go (as an experiment) and it discovered all the changes on it's own! It is not designed to give your floors a "deep clean" obviously that will still require elbow grease and an old fashioned vac, but this machine has vastly improved my life, the bin is full every time I empty it and the floors look great! Make sure all your doors are fully opened and pick up everything off the floor before running it, it can get trapped behind half opened doors. If it does get stuck it just tells you it is stuck and it shuts off until you come and fetch it, when this happens I just return it to the dock and let it recharge, then send it back out but this has only happened a few times. The phone app works good, for fun I sent the Monkey out to clean the floor while I was 200 miles away from home but hubby was home, he was surprised! ... show more

  • Loud but amazing cleaner, worth every penny
I own a few of the sharks and this one is by far the loudest, maybe its just mine. I am forsure return it and try to see if a different one is not so loud. Mapping takes forever but it is very accurate. The map on the app is so tiny and you cant zoom in, maybe hopefully soon they will update and change that on the app. I have deep shaggy carpet in my room and kept getting an error to check the outside brushes but they just snap on and off so I had to remove mine for my bedroom. Even without the side brushes (on max) it has cleaned and picked up more dog hair and dirt than my pet vacuum. My carpet has never looked so clean! Out of all my sharkys (nickname) this model would be my favorite one as far as cleaning and suction.. I had no clue my how dirty my carpet really was as much as I kept my floor vacuumed with a high dollar vacuum that I take great care of. The dust pan is different with a slight divider in it next to the filter all the dog hair seems to bunch up on the side next to the filter. The row by row cleaning is amazing it's dead on with it, it bumps into a lot but I'm sure that's just to get a good feel of how to go as close and around the object as possible. It is an amazing high powered robot vacuum for sure! And a few extra replacements parts to go along with it as well and its charging dock. Even with as loud as mine is I would forsure recommend this model if you can handle the noise and its extremely long mapping process. I honestly feel like the good out weights the bad. Ofcourse with my deep carpet the battery life is not as long as if it was just normal short carpet or just flooring. Today alone it has ran 3.7 hours and made 43 cleaning runs (had to pause a lot and charge it a lot because of my carpet sucking the life out of it and it sucking up so much dirt and hair I had to keep dumping the bin) but it has cleaned 2,349 square feet in my majorly larger bedroom today. The roller has a new design to it as well almost no hair gets stuck in the roller at all. I am very impressed with how well it cleans my shag carpet when it's not made to clean deep cart.. but it cleans deep carpt well anyways. ... show more

  • Great little bot when it’s updated!
I waited a few months to write this review because I wanted to give the vacuum time to build its map and to show me what it was made of. Here’s my analysis. First off I’d like to start by saying my bot has firmware from January 10, 2020. Past firmwares were full of bugs and issues. Ever since the latest firmware, the robot does exactly what it’s supposed to and even finished off my apartment by doing a full edge clean. New trick! (You check the firmware version in the Shark app. Be careful not to confuse this with the app version.) Second, this thing is noisy. I don’t mind it too much but you definitely won’t want to be watching a movie or doing anything that would require low noise. However, this noise is due to the brush and bin design. The bin has a static plastic filter that the brushes pass through each time they spin. This causes a lot of noise the machine generates but I excuse it because it keeps the brush head clean. I haven’t had to clean the brush once since I’ve owned it. In contrast, other robots I’ve owned have had to have their brushes cleaned every run or every few runs. Lastly, this thing will develop a map of your home on its own over time. You can create zones and tell it what room or zone to clean. My tips about this feature: 1) Have all lights in the house on as this way it can reliably use them as points of interest. 2) Move chairs out of the way to assist the bot. This may seem cumbersome but it makes it run faster. 3) If you have furniture that can move, try to have it in the same location every time you run the machine so it doesn’t confuse the map creation. (I have a coffee table on wheels that I push to a corner.) Overall I’m very happy with this robot (now) and it does that I need it to: keep my place clean without me needing to vacuum myself. Disclaimer: I don’t own pets so I can’t speak to the brush self maintenance if you have pets that shed a lot. ... show more

  • Powerful, but App is worthless, it stops with error #2 when there is no obstruction.
First the good: It's very powerful, picking up cat hair, dust and dirt better than my big vac. It gets under the bed, console, etc. This one is not noisy at all, as some have complained. Now the bad: After numerous attempts it does not pair with my WIFI. It recognizes it, but doesn't ever connect. Therefore, I cannot use the App. It does work when I push the clean button manually, but I cannot control where it goes without carrying it to another area. Sometimes it just goes in circles. I haven't yet decided whether to return this within the return window. I will continue to try to get it to work with my WIFI. If it never does, I am inclined to return this and order a different robot, because I don't see that this one is worth so much money when major functions don't work. I don't know if another one (any brand) would be as powerful as this. Sure wish it worked as advertised. Update: After several attempts the Shark finally did connect with my WIFI. It has made about 5 runs and I presume it's mapping the house. It hasn't even gone into a couple of rooms yet but returns to the same rooms each time. I will continue to run it each day to see if with more runs it cleans and maps the whole house. It does find the dock itself, and it's easy to clean the dust bin. LATER: A year and a half later it does not work right anymore. Wifi doesn't work and it's constantly stopping and telling me there is an obstruction under it, but there is not. I've unwound cat hair from the brush, etc. I'm not sure if this is a "normal lifespan" or not, but I need to get another robot. I love the idea, but need to find one that works better than this one. LATER STILL: Sometimes this works and sometimes not. I spend forever dealing with #2 error when it stops but there is nothing obstructing. It has NEVER worked with wifi even though I've rebooted it, and tried several times. I used it manually. It would clean some rooms but not all. This is going in the trash and I will look for another one that works better. Sad. ... show more

  • This is better that the Roomba
I have had a Roomba for years, still do, put it down in the basement as I placed this one on the main level. Here are the key reasons this robot vacuum is superior and at the price point offered. 1. Suction power is much greater we get a lot more stuff off the ground. 2. I found this unit to be quite more so than the Roomba. I saw reviews that says it is loud, I don't get that it is a vacuum so there is going to be noise this is NOT what I would call loud at all. Been on conference calls with it vacuuming outside my office no issues. 3. This one does not mindlessly roam around the house vacuuming. It really does have a method and path, row by row in straight lines. It is impressive to watch. 4. It does not slam into things like the other, it actually avoids them or gently touches and adjusts the path. Covers the whole level on one charge. 5. The App is good and relatively easy to use. easy set up including connecting it to WiFo and mobile devices. I would highly recommend this as the robot vacuum of choice. ... show more

  • Great Vacuum Robot on the market! Great Vacuum Robot on the market!
Overall, I think this robot is one of the most competitive model on the market. 1. The vacuum is really powerful. I have one robot from other company. It can collect pets' hair and dust in one time running, even from carpet. I have a dog and a cat. IQ R101 will clean all their hair and I don't need to worry about the allergy stuff. Now I'm really in to it and need to run the clean process every day! It saved me a lot of cleaning time. 2. The vacuum is really smart. The first time it goes through the whole process around 1.5 hour in our entire house.(3b/1b). The time and routing system will get improved every time. After several times, it will improve to need less than one hour. The route pattern gets better significantly. It will bypass the cables and furnitures automatically. 3. Mobile app enabled. This mobile app is extremely useful while using vacuum robots. It can help you with start/stop cleaning process; locate your vacuum; display the stats for the robot like battery percentage; schedule the clean process and even buying accessories like filter. Dislike: the noise with this robot is slightly louder than competitor. However, they are at about the same level. Apparently, with better vacuum power there must be louder noise. I'm totally ok with it. ... show more

  • It's an upgrade over older shark robot vacs.
We previously had a basic Shark robot vacuum. It worked, but you had to babysit it, which really defeated the purpose. It would often get stuck under a couch or a bed. Enter this new Shark robot vacuum. This model seemed to offer the best features for the best price. Pros: Much smarter, between the mapping feature, sensors and non-random pattern it hasn't gotten stuck at all, and does a much more thorough job. Much better cleaning that the old product. This actually leaves lines in the carpet, which is kind of satisfying as they are perfectly back and forth. Cons: Way louder. Not a huge deal as it does clean better, but something to be aware of. App/wifi is a bit wonky. I had a bit of trouble getting it all connected at first. There doesn't seem to be a way to reconnect if you change your wifi name and such. Then you just have to go through the process again like it was a new vacuum. Brush still gets a lot of tangled hair. It's a bit easier to clean out than the old model, but it still happens. Sometimes misses a room or area of the house. I am sure this gets better as it maps the house more completely. Overall we don't have any regrets in upgrading and have had a much better experience with this new fancier version that the older one. ... show more
