  • Fantastic Hidden Gem among the rowers
I did a good amount of research to find what I felt was the best home rower for me. I know I did not want to spend upwards of $1000 for a machine, but I realized that I did want an air rower for 2 reasons: 1) for the dynamic resistance that increases as I speed up my pull, and 2) the audio cue of the fan spinning faster as I pull faster. This may not matter to everyone, but it did to me (as a bit of motivational feedback). Running fully silent, as most pure magnetic rowers do, was a drawback for me. At the same time, I wanted some magnetic variance just so that I can mix it up on the days I want to make the workout harder. So what happened? I found the SereneLife rower kind of hidden away in the pages of rowers on Amazon. It's not the cheapest, but it's definitely not the most expensive. It fit the category of true air/magnetic rower, and it had pretty good ratings (more than 81% 5 or 4 stars). The only down side was that it did not have thousands of reviews, but the more than 100 positive ratings it did have inspired a lot of confidence. So I ordered it. It arrived in 3 days, one week earlier than expected. It had an assembly manual that was detailed and felt a bit overwhelming, but it's actually not that complicated. I did it by myself in a little over an hour. So what's the verdict? > OPERATION/BUILD. It's smooth and solid as it operates. No creaks. No fear of breaking it. The seat isn't cushy but it's comfortable for a 30 minute workout. The stroke is just as I expected., super smooth as I pull and as it retracts. The flywheel is about 12" in diameter with 1" - 1.5" blades. It's easy to adjust the magnetic resistance. Just turn the knob (10 levels available). Not a huge difference but enough to feel it and give the variety I wanted. Also, for you tall folks, I'm 5' 11" and at full extension, I still have about 6-8" of room behind me on the track. It doesn't fold up when I'm done, but that's okay for me because it stays where it is. But when I did try moving it, it's easy: Just lift the back rail, roll on the front wheels, and move it to new location. > WORKOUT. Basically I do my strength training with weights. I wanted this rowing machine for low-impact cardio. I pulled up a Youtube video for beginning rowers (eg Training Tall), followed along for 22 minutes. Got my heart up to 115 for a consistent time of 15 minutes, and I am sure I can increase pace and time as I jump into intermediate and advanced videos or use the magnetic knob. A good sweat at elevated heart rate with no pain to feet or knees. Just what I wanted. > MONITOR. Didn't expect much, but the monitor works great! It doesn't have a backlight, but there's a lot of good info and the text is a fairly legible size as I workout with a light overhead. The 5" diagonal screen has two areas: Top half and Bottom half. The bottom shows 6 boxes arranged horizontally: Time duration of workout, Distance rowed in meters, Pulse rate at the moment, Calories burned, Strokes per minute currently, and Total strokes rowed. The top half shows just one of 8 metrics at a time (so it's big and easy to read), whatever you want to focus on. Its default is to rotate through the 8 metrics over 48 seconds or so, but you can also set it to stay on just your preferred metric. 1. Time of workout 2. Split time average for 500m (instantaneous) 3. Distance in meters of workout 4. Pulse rate (instantaneous) 5. Calories burned in workout 6. Strokes per minute (instantaneous) 7. Number of strokes in workout 8. Total strokes for all time By the way, I have my own bluetooth pulse reader for my chest, and yes it does work with this rower. So I can track my pulse easily with the $10 chest strap and heartbeat tracker with no problem. > EXTRAS. I only paid about $300 for this machine so I wasn't sure how it might look. But the black and metallic look with the flywheel up front looks pretty nice in my workout area. It really looks like and runs like it could give the $1000 machines a run for its money. The fan even provides a bit of cooling effect as I row. There is real dynamic resistance as I pull, and the magnetics do work to increase overall resistance. Is it super tough to pull? No, but I have pull up bars and lat machines for that stuff.. For me this is perfect for the low impact cardio I want. This rower wasn't ranked very high as I looked for rowers. I believe it's only because not enough people have tried it and reviewed it yet (I think it originally showed up on Amazon around Dec 2019). People tend to stick with the top 5 in reviews or with whoever has paid for placement advertising. It's been a surprising gem hidden the various rowers on offer. For the price, the value is fantastic in smoothness, functionality, information, features, and looks. Hope this helps, just as other reviews have helped me. ***I will provide updates later as needed on durability and customer service. • Just right for a solid home workout
The media could not be loaded. TL/DR: Solid machine. Nice for home rowing. Intermediate build. We have been shopping for a rower for a while, and were torn between an "elite" brand or a water tension. After trying out a friend's belt driven magnetic tension machine, and learning about water machine maintenance, we decided to ditch the fancy stuff and find something that would fit the immediate need. With gyms closing or requiring masks right now, going out of the house just doesn't work for our lifestyle. We needed a solid machine with a moderate weight-limit and adjustable tension. After a lot of reading and searching we decided on the SereneLife Home Rowing Machine. We ordered this machine at 4pm on Tuesday, and it arrived by 6pm Thursday!!! One week earlier than expected! Out of the box, most of the parts were in order and a lot of the nuts/bolts/washers are hand tightened into the body of the rower to be removed and replaced as you work. There is also a hex key and a cute little screwdriver/wrench tool. You shouldn't need any outside tools (but keep reading). There was a single bolt that came loose and 1 spring washer was missing. It was in the section where the rails attach to the wheel house, but there are 5 other bolts, so I feel safe that not having 1 spring washer in that area will not cause and issue. One other tough part was getting 2 small screws out of the rails to slide the seat on. They were very tight, and I felt scared to strip them, so I got out the drill and got them out with a little extra torque. I would have really liked an extra set of hardware for there very reason that I experienced: one of my bolts coming loose from the machine causing a lost washer. The manual does a good job of illustrating the pieces and how to assemble. If you do well with visual instructions, you shouldn't have much trouble. If you like reading and looking at diagrams, so of the illustrations for the step you are on are on the back side of the page. Again, not a huge deal, just a hurdle. I put this together with minimal help (Just needed an extra set of hands to get the rail onto the wheel house) in about 90 minutes. I wasn't in a hurry, so I think if I needed it to be done faster, I could probably cut off about 20 minutes. This is NOT a folding model. I've included a picture of it put together and in a standing position. You can stand it up, and place it against a wall, but it is a solid rail/wheel connection. Not an issue since it's going to live in our basement. After completion we all took a turn, with ages and fitness levels varying from 42-11/Sedentary-Very Active, and had no problems. My husband, the primary user, felt like the highest resistance was just fine for his need, and he is an active CrossFitter. Another nice feature, that I hadn't even looked for, is stationary foot holds. They do not move or rotate with your reps, giving you a solid plane to push off of. The computer feature is also nice, and will come in handy. Batteries included!! You do need an external heart monitor for the pulse meter to work, but that wasn't a selling point for me, so it's not a big deal. This does make a fan/swoosh sound when you pull. It's an air machine, and should be expected. I added a video of the fan to demonstrate. The harder/faster you pull the louder it will be. Over all, in the 4 hours we've had this item I am happy with our choice. ... show more

  • Not accurate distance. Stroke power makes no difference.
Style: With Wifi
The media could not be loaded. I use a concept 2 rower in a work gym. I have to pass an unqualified fitness test for my job as a condition of employment. Compared to the concept 2, a $1200 premium rower, there are some issues. I will saw the quality feels fine. The screen has the data I want and the phone holder is a nice touch. Here are some issues I noted: 1. My stroke is shorter by 6-8” which equates to a lot of lost power and distance. I’m not able to slide forward, lean forward, and reach forward to a maximum distance. My arms are blocked from reaching forward fairly early on by the front of the machine. 2. The distance is not accurate at all. I row with the resistance on level 16 which is the highest. The wheel stops turning before I take another stoke. My hardest pull on the rower results in a distance of 8 meters. My lightest pull on the rower (barely pulling at all) also results in a distance gain of 8 meters. I’m summary I can row by barely pulling or pulling with all my strength, but my distance will be the same as long as my stroke count matches. See video for two very different strokes resulting in the same distance. 3. The foot strap is built too high up on the foot rest. I wear size 11 shoes and the foot strap is almost on my toes, not my arch where I prefer it. 4. On a concept 2 I can do a 2000 meter row in about 8:00 to 8:30. On this rower I complete 2000 in 10-11 minutes with with much less exhaustion. I could increase my time by rowing faster and increasing stroke count, by I prefer my stroke county to be 17-25 or so, with more powerful strokes. The workout is just not as effective. ... show more
