The Samsung 990 PRO 2TB was a great upgrade for my PC. Installation was straightforward, the extra storage is immediately useful for games and files, and the system feels fast and responsive in everyday use. It is the kind of upgrade that improves normal tasks as much as it helps with larger workloads. The 2TB capacity is a comfortable fit for a gaming or work computer, and the PCIe 4.0 design gives compatible systems plenty of performance headroom. Just make sure your motherboard or laptop has a compatible M.2 slot. For speed, capacity, and reliability in my setup, this is an easy 5-star SSD.

Used this new drive as a larger replacement for my C:/ drive (OS drive) in my Dell XPS 8930 desktop system. So far, this thing works great and is amazingly fast. My system originally came with a 256GB PCIe NVMe M.2 SSD drive. But, I was very close to the max limit on that drive and I was having trouble finding anything more to move to my secondary data drive. I also didn't really relish the idea of having to do a fresh windows 11 install and having to reload all my apps, data and everything else. I keep my system throughly updated and cleaned up, so I wasn't dealing with an old, bloated, slow install. I went with Samsung for this new SSD, for two reasons. First, I've bought Samsung drives before and was always impressed. But, most of all, because I was familiar with the Samsung Magician software that you can download free to do the data migration (cloning), as well as other ongoing drive maintenance. This free software will only allow you to transfer to a Samsung drive, so it's a no-go if you buy a different brand of drive. As expected, the Samsung Magician software is very good (now in Version 9.0) and it made the cloning of my old C: drive an easy and quick job. My old drive had nearly 220GB of data to be migrated to my new drive and it all happened in a little more than an hour. It copies and transfers every single bit of data from the original drive. Once it says the transfer has completed, you just shut it all down, transfer the new drive into your original C: drive socket and power back up. Everything is exactly the same as it was when you started. I had to use a UGREEN NVMe M.2 enclosure plugged into my computer through a USB port for the cloning operation, as my Dell desktop computer only has one NVMe M.2 slot. That was also purchased through Amazon for less than $20. So far, this new SSD drive is super fast and hasn't missed a beat since it was powered up. I highly recommend Samsung drives. One last note.......if you have questions or problems installing your new SSB, Samsung has a great customer service telephone help desk. Within 5 minutes of placing my call, I was talking to a very knowledgable computer expert that immediately answered my questions, made a couple of good suggestions and had me all taken care of. And, believe it or not, this guy sounded US based and was very easy to understand. All together, my problems were resolved in less than 10 minutes total, including a short wait to be routed to the correct product specialist. Way to go Samsung!

I am using two of these 1TB drives in a custom NAS box I put together running TrueNAS. I have two 12TB HDD drives, two slower SSDs, and two of these great Samsung 1TB NVMe drives. While the majority of my backups are on the mirrored HDD drives, and the TrueNAS boot drives are the SSDs, I use these two Samsung NVMes as a high-performance NVME pool for storing apps, containers, metadata, VMs, databases, and PLEX metadata. This is ideal because the ZFS mirror offers redundancy for critical app data, low latency and high IOPS making it a great place for TrueNAS apps and datasets. These drives are the biggest real-world performance area of my NAS so I use it where speed matters most. The TrueNAS OS and temp jobs/work stay on the SSDs so they don't wear out these NVMes quickly. These drives are nice and fast for PCIe 4.0. They also were a great price at the time because of holiday pricing and they were on backorder for a bit, which caused the price to drop for a week, too. So the value couldn't be beat at the time. Samsung drives like these have never failed me, and some of my M.2 drives get quite a workout on my main desktop build! The only thing I would recommend with these drives is using a third-party heatsink on them that has a fan on it. It keeps these drives nice and cool during high loads. Without them, you run the risk of overheating and heat-related speed throttling, causing your drives to slow down while hot. So keep these drive cool by slapping a $20 M.2 heatsink+fan on there and never worry again! These drives were perfect for my new NAS, or for your next desktop PC drive replacement! They work great and are trouble-free for me so far. I will update if I ever run into any problems with them.

I'm no fanboy but when it comes to storage, I love Samsung. It used to be Western Digital when I was young but something has happened to them over the years. This is one of their better drives. They do have newer ones targeting AI but unless you're decking out your machine for LLM and have hundreds of gigs of RAM to support it, this will suffice for basically everything except maybe the actual amount of space. So, buy a couple or look for an 8TB. These drives work well. I have a lower model in my desktop by mistake. Honestly though it's so fast compared to "faster" models from other brands, I can't tell I bought the wrong one. This one is in one of my laptops. The laptop mount wasn't correct so I had to make a rubber washer for UNDER the SSD which is unusual. Otherwise it mounted fine. Not the drive's fault but the computer. It was recognized perfectly but one note: If your computer has Intel RST/VMD and you intend to use linux, you may need to disable it. This may prevent Windows from booting until re-enabled. Luckily for me, I just deleted Windows. Problem solved. This is a side-note for those of you purchasing these for dual-boot to hopefully save you some headache. Anyway ... 4tb ... super fast .. I have it luks encrypted, full-bore. You simply cannot tell. That's why I love these drives. I work on sensitive projects. Some legal. Some health. Some security. Etc. I run full disk encryption on my project storage and active machines with different keys each obviously and other security measures we won't get into but with this sort of NVME the performance loss is absolutely negligible. For example the "AI" nvme is absolutely not needed in my case. I actually do a lot of AI code. Financial predictions to massive patterns that I can't explain here without breaching contract but the point is, the drives are never maxed out even while fully encrypted. My GPU, NPU or CPU always bottlenecks first. The same with Video Games. Even VR games. Basically, there are few cases where this drive will not suffice. You'll know if you truly need better. If you aren't sure then, this drive will probably be perfect but it doesn't hurt to double-check.

Even with the crazy prices due to AI data centers hogging up anything from the consumer level, these are the best SSD drives out there. They have the speed and the performance to load applications and save files faster than other drives. Samsung has optimized the drives to their fullest. Game load screens just zip by without any issue. Ensure your motherboard doesn't have any issues with some of the slots conflicting with other cards/drives and you can enjoy the maximum potential from these drives. My last one is still kicking and has been in a system for 5+ years, with hundreds to thousands of installs, uninstalls, and file transfers/organization for games, content creation, modding, and work items.

The current price is outrageous, but I got this drive a while back and it’s been amazing. I use one for my OS and boot drive, and I have one for my games. Boot times are between 8-10 seconds, and games run perfectly on it. The real issue right now is price. When I got this drive I paid less than 150 bucks for the 2TB. The current price is wild and as good as it is, I wouldn’t personally pay the insane amount. While the speeds are great, the average person/gamer isn’t going to notice that much of a difference with a cheaper one with slightly slower speeds. So price to performance I wouldn’t recommend paying the current amount.

A new form of digital storage that is small and very fast. I link the files stored here to my Cloud Server, in the up direction, and can view them locally in the Mac Finder in the down direction... as is the case for all Storage device. This one is top of its class, a bit pricey, small, super fast, plug and play essentially and very quiet. You can occasionally hear the fan come on which is recommended over a heat sink which, for the non techies out there, means an additional piece of ribbed aluminum typically where the heat migrates and dissipates. A heatsink is available in lieu of a fan on many NVMe (Non-Volatile Memory Express) Flash Memory Devices, but I recommend a fan.

Currently using this for backups with a Fanless Speedy 40Gbps M.2 NVMe SSD Enclosure, USB4/Thunderbolt 4 Aluminum External NVMe Enclosure and a ThunderboltEX4. I originally intended to use Acronis True Image for Sabrent, but after configuring my storage devices as RAID 0, I was unable to run Acronis True Image after installation. This prompted me to look for other backup software. I considered Macrium Reflect, but I then came across ShadowProtect SPX. This is good software and is worth the one-time payment of $99.95. Also, I was unable to run Samsung Magician software, probably due to the masking caused by both the enclosure and the RAID 0 configuration. Also, I am unable to update the firmware without removing one of the two internal M.2's and installing the Samsung 990 PRO into the motherboard, which I am currently not willing to do (I am very satisfied with my current configuration/build and cable management). EDIT: I've updated the M.2's firmware using a PCIeX16 M.2 Adapter Key and the bootable firmware .iso including a USB flash drive. It took some work (and extra thermal pads), but I've managed it. This M.2 was recommended to me by Copilot. Also, key Improvements in firmware ver. 6B2QJXD7 - Resolved drive detection issues → Fixes cases where the SSD wouldn’t appear in Samsung Magician or BIOS, especially on systems using RAID mode - Improved firmware update compatibility → Reduces failures during firmware flashing, particularly when using bootable USB tools or Samsung’s ISO updater - Enhanced system stability → Addresses rare BSODs and boot-time hangs linked to NVMe controller instability on certain platforms - Better support for secure boot environments → Users with Secure Boot enabled reported smoother update experiences compared to earlier versions. I would like to express my gratitude to everyone involved in the creation of these wonderful machines, all parts and programming. The internet is amazing. Computers rule. Maybe I should have purchased the 4TB. EDIT: I have 4TB of internal storage. I purchased a 2TB backup drive. WTF? I needed a 4TB backup drive, so I bought one. Firmware was already at its latest revision. I removed the 2TB from the enclosure and installed the 4TB. All is now well.
