  • Overall Great for the price!! : Overall review on this drive
Style: IroWolf Pro Capacity: 18TB
The Seagate IronWolf Pro 18TB (Recertified) Enterprise NAS HDD offers high-capacity storage and reliability, especially suited for NAS setups and enterprise environments where durability is essential. Here’s a breakdown of its performance, durability, and overall value as a recertified drive: Storage Capacity & Performance With an impressive 18TB of storage, this drive is perfect for handling large data volumes, making it ideal for users who need high-capacity storage in RAID or NAS configurations. The drive operates at 7,200 RPM and has a 256MB cache, ensuring smooth performance and quick data access speeds for backups, streaming, and large file transfers. It handles workloads up to 300TB per year, which is well-suited for heavy-duty use in small to medium businesses or creative setups. Recertified Quality & Value As a recertified product, this IronWolf Pro comes at a more affordable price point than a brand-new unit. Seagate’s recertification process gives a level of assurance, but potential buyers should still consider the balance of cost savings against longevity expectations. While recertified drives often meet quality standards, there is an element of risk in terms of lifespan. Fortunately, the warranty (typically around one year) provides some peace of mind. Reliability & NAS Optimization The IronWolf Pro series is known for its durability and NAS-optimized firmware, making it resilient in multi-bay environments where continuous operation is required. This drive supports Seagate’s AgileArray firmware, designed specifically for NAS use, providing stable performance, RAID optimization, and vibration tolerance in multi-drive setups. However, as a recertified drive, it may be slightly more susceptible to wear over time than a new drive, but for most NAS applications, it should hold up well if used within recommended parameters. Noise & Heat Management In terms of noise, the IronWolf Pro is relatively quiet, especially given its enterprise-grade capabilities. It does generate some heat, which is expected for a drive of this size and speed, so adequate ventilation in your NAS setup is recommended. For home office use, the sound levels are manageable, and in a server environment, they would likely go unnoticed. Pros: Massive 18TB storage capacity, perfect for NAS and RAID setups 7,200 RPM and 256MB cache provide fast data access and transfer speeds Optimized for NAS with AgileArray firmware and vibration tolerance Affordable pricing for recertified enterprise-grade storage High endurance for continuous operation (300TB/year workload rating) Cons: Limited warranty compared to new drives (usually around one year) Some risk of reduced lifespan as a recertified unit Generates some heat, so good NAS ventilation is recommended Verdict: The Seagate IronWolf Pro 18TB (Recertified) Enterprise NAS HDD is a solid choice for those looking to maximize storage capacity at a lower cost. It performs well in NAS environments, thanks to NAS-optimized firmware and robust performance, while its recertified status makes it more affordable for budget-conscious users. While there’s a minor risk in longevity compared to a new drive, the IronWolf Pro’s durability and high capacity make it an excellent solution for both business and personal NAS needs. If you need enterprise-grade storage without breaking the bank, this recertified drive offers strong value and performance. ... show more

  • great refurbished 18tb drive! Had 0 hours on it!
Style: IroWolf Pro Capacity: 18TB
Looks like I was very lucky here. After seeing some reviews of bad drives, etc. I was concerned. I got my drive in 1 day, was shipped from a local warehouse here in the Indianapolis area. Put drive in my Synology 5 disk array. Opened up details after installing and it showed 0 hours used. So, at least in this case, looks like I got a drive that was never used but was sent back to seller for a reason not related to repairs. Rebuilt my 40TB raid array with no issues. Ran full SMART test. No errors at all. Running very quiet and running at similar temperatures to my other 4 drives in system. Very happy with drive, will buy others when I need to upgrade one of my 8tb drives in system. ... show more

  • Seems to work great. Lots of storage
Style: IroWolf Pro Capacity: 18TB
I was nervous about storing 18TB on a single drive. That is a lot of data that could get lost with a drive failure. So I bought 2 instead. They are running in a RAID 1 software array and seem to work great. Unless I am doing a bunch of disk I/O, such at transferring ~18TB to it, I do not notice much noise. Technically, I get about 16TB of useable space, but that is expected with overhead, filesystem and how it counts each GB (1000MB vs 1024MB). It is still larger than my 6TB x4 RAID-10 array this was replacing. Overall, it seems to be running well. ... show more

  • Deceptive Advertising.
Purchased two 10TB Ironwolf Pro HDD drives. Nowhere in the description did I see they were refurbished. In fact I only found this out when I decided to write this review and read the description on the feedback page, which is different from the website description. Unfortunately I am long past the return date. Shipment took almost a month to arrive so I had already found replacements and put these on the shelf as backups. Another concern I originally had is they arrived without any cushioning, they were simply loose in the shipping box. Not a safe way to handle a hard drive. Today I attempted to put them in service. Drive one was DOA, not recognized or seen by Disk Management . Drive two, also DOA, creates a screeching sound like a metal lathe. On inspection I found a dent in the top of the disk. This is a complaint about the seller “Network-Wholesale.” Misleading Advertising, extremely slow shipping and poor packaging. ... show more

  • Great drive
Style: IroWolf Pro Capacity: 22TB
So far, so good. I copied 13TB of stuff from my 4 other smaller external drives, and the speed was almost always well over 100 MB/sec. Highest I transfer speed I saw was 150. 20.0TB of formatted space. I've been using Seagate and WD hard drives for over 25 years now, and have only had a couple of them crash. Back in those days, I was running P2P programs non-stop 24/7, so the drives were heavily used, and were NOT enterprise class (young and stupid.... and broke), so I can't fault them for that. Hopefully I'll have the same good luck with this one. Words of advice from somebody who has been doing this for a long, long time. Never, ever, ever CUT and paste your data from the old drive to the new. Always COPY and paste it. That way, if something does go wrong with the new drive during the transfer, you still have all of your data on the old drive. If you truly care about your data, then get a RAID so you have redundancy. If a drive fails, everything can still be retrieved from the other discs in the array. Expensive, but can you put a price on your stuff? If you don't get a RAID, at least get a second drive and get some file syncing software. Run the software frequently. Like any time you update anything on your computer. That way, you always have the backup drive up to date. I use Free File Sync. It's great, and very easy to use. https://freefilesync.org/ Remember, it's not a matter of IF your HDD will fail. It's a matter of WHEN. ALL hard drives will fail eventually. Keep your stuff backed up to multiple locations. ... show more
