  • Very Impressive Hard Drive
This Hard Drive has the usual Seagate reliability, but also has a massive storage capacity. I was able to put my entire iTunes library on it (over 800 movies and 1600 TV episodes, more than 2000 songs and 500 music videos) and still had 1TB of free storage space. For the price ($143), it is an awesome deal. ... show more

  • Seagate is best
Routine storage, home use, Seagate has always been more reliable. So far so good, years will tell.

  • Not a new Drive
Purchased this drive from RebornRack who listed it as a new Drive. The drive I got was not in a sealed package, the little seal on the lid of the box was broken. inside, the drive was not in a plastic sheath and the USB cable was not in a plastic wrap. I plugged the drive in and all the files what usually come on a new drive were gone. Even the drive name was changed from Extension to NewVolume so the drive has been reformatted. I am loading the drive up with files to check the storage integrity. I can verify what a new drive is suppose to look like because I ordered a second drive from a different seller that is also sold as new. It was shrink-wrapped, the inside drive was inside a plastic sleeve. The USB cable was inside a plastic sleeve. When the drive was connected to my computer, it has seagate files for both the PC and the Mac. The drive name was Extension. This holds true to all previous new 8TB external Hard drives I have purchased before. I am currently filling the suspect drive with files. Once filled, I will copy them to the KNOWN new drive and then run my file integrity program on them to see if they were copied correctly. If so, then I will check the integrity of the files with the original files from the PC to confirm the integrity of the files on the suspect drive. I will report my findings here when I have them. --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- OK, here is the update: The Drive Information by seagate has an invalid number for the number of hours that the drive has been active. In fact, ALL fields except the Seagate name are invalid. Windows will not come up if the external drive is plugged in but will come up if the external drive is disconnected. Once windows is up, I can then connect the drive and windows will see it. The Internet keeps dropping with this drive connected making Chrome Remote Desktop a pain.. I copied about 5T worth of data to the drive and so far, it has stayed and verified. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Update 2022 Dec. 18: The Drive can no longer access 3 files of the several thousand that I moved to the drive. They were deleted OK and the rest of the files were confirmed to compare with the original files. Even though this is a relatively safe count, to have three files disappear in so short a time does not bode well for this drive. I have since lowered my overall star rating for this drive to two. • USB 3.0 speeds, works great with PS5
The item description on Amazon says USB 1.1 for some reason. Looking up the model number on other sites (and confirmed by actual transfer speeds) it's 3.0. works great as an external storage for a PS5.

  • Know that it needs to be plugged into an external power source other than the USB cable
I didn't like that it had to be plugged into a separate external power supply. It seems 5T is the largest size you can get then you need an external power supply for anything larger.

  • Previous years model, but still functional
I find the previous years model is just a tad slower, but hardly noticeable. Only 20 seconds over a three hour backup. I love these Seagate external drives. With 8TB, I can get 4 or 5 server backups per device. I never delete a backup, I just buy more drives.

  • Great price buy, incredibly slow compared to ssd/m2
So $ per gig is awesome. Now, it's been a few years since I've used a hdd. Boy is it slow compared to a ssd or an m2. I use mine purely for gaming so I would bite the bullet and go with one of those ssds or m2s because if you are playing triple A games this thing cannot run them. Back for blood being one as an example. I'm running the most current hardware ie 5600 AMD cpu and a 3080 gpu ... show more
