Drive is indeed brand new and arrived well protected. You should have cables and screws at the ready since this listing does not include any but the drive itself. The hard disk arrives uninitialized. You have to boot up disk management (in windows) and it will prompt immediately to initialize the drive, which I did with MBR and NTFS. Pity there’s no manual, but lucky me I know the process. The Disk Drive advertised was expected to operate at 7200 RPM, which is generally associated with higher data transfer speeds. Expected disk drive performance within this RPM is up to 128 Mbps. Despite this, the disk drive is operating at a transfer rate of around 5 - 10 Mbps. My only critique is that the drive did not come with any mounting screws whatsoever or any other hardware. Make sure you have your own screws and SATA cable. Other than that the drive performs excellent.

I did not like the fact that it was boxed like a refurbished item. Did not use it so could not talk about it. I returned, but Seagate does not want to give me my money back, they claim that they did not receive it.

July 9 2019 Bought 2TB HD as replacement for failing drive in a small-form-factor desktop. Product was new (unused-not refurb), as advertised. It is about as quiet as the quietest desktop hard drive I've had: not silent, but ignorable. The drive arrived uninitialized, but required no special software to partition and format it.
