I have purchased 3 of these disk drives, and am currently subjecting them to very heavy duty in a Raid5 setup. There have been no issues with the drives at all. As others have reported they make some noise, but I don't find it objectionable.

Purchased 2 of these 12TB Renewed drives for my Mac Pro (Late 2012 5,1). Very simple to install and format. Very excited to begin consolidating our external drives and begin managing everything from a central location again. Most importantly, these are CMR drives! SMR drives place tracks more closely together than their CMR counterparts. This does not impact read speed, but it has a significant impact on write. The problem with SMR drives is that when you overlap the tracks like this, it means that there's no way to write to just a single track without affecting the data on nearby tracks. Writing data to an SMR drive requires that the drive scan multiple tracks at once and then rewrite them. Just an unbeatable deal for any operating system or application, at a price that is beyond affordable. ... show more

Computer has had issues over the past month. We finally took it to get looked at and lo and behold the hard drive is defective, it didn't even last 10 months. Come to find out, this is not an amazon renewed product and Seagate won't help. I feel mislead because had I known it was a random seller with bad reviews I wouldn't have purchased it- I was trusting the Amazon name. ... show more

Nice drive with huge storage capacity. Quiet and easy physical installation. You just plug power and data cables in and mount it in the case. While the drive is formatted, it won't be recognized by a Windows PC until you run disk manager and add it. After struggling with it for a while when it didn't show up, I remembered this step and all was well. There were no instructions I saw that said to do the disk manager step and it has been a while since I had done one. You Tube has details on adding a drive to Windows if you are as rusty as I was. ... show more

It's been 3 weeks since I got six of these. I loaded them all into a RAID NAS, with one designated as the hot spare. Every one does everything it should and tests out on SMART diagnostics fine. Surface tests also passed. There are indications of error detection and correction shown in the extended SMART values. So, they're working nominally. I'm cautiously feeling grateful. The drive is very easy to hear spinning up and when in use, though its not too much of a problem if you're a headset user like me. Apart from the noise level, the capacity is a massive plus, nice speeds too.
