I've been trying to find a battery charger that doesn't auto-sense the voltage or doesn't have a 6volt option, so that I can actually change a very dead 12volt battery without the thing defaulting to a 6volt charge. this one works for that. I thought it was broken because it never did indicate a full100% charge after a couple days hooked to a battery, even the battery would test (with basic home shop equipment) as good and would start the car. It turns out that if I left it connected for a couple weeks, it would reach a 100% full charge indication. Not ideal, but workable. This is also much heavier built than most 6/12 volt chargers. This is about the best you can do; without buying one of chargers that has wheels and is about the size of large luggage, and cost $200 or more.

As others have mentioned, packaging is very weak and allows for scratches and dents/dings. Once you get past that the unit is not as heavy and awkward to carry as others have indicated. The instruction manual leaves more questions than it gives answers. Multiple battery type selection is a great feature. Love that you can adjust all settings and then turn on vs. Other always on once plugged in. Because of the automatic delay operation you may feel the unit is not working. This unit brought back a completely dead battery that sat for over four months in the bitter cold. I was surprised and completely sold after that! It took several days for the battery to completely charge, but no iisues since!

Doesn't have a good place to store the cords,won't charge a battery unless it has high enough voltage that allows charger to turn on, hard to carry one handed.

i normally cant stand smart chargers give me a old standard 80s battery charger any day but i love this one so far it has started my power stroke from dead battery's in a hour and my old 70 Chevy 350 it fired right up on the 100 amp as soon as i got in the cab !!!

UPDATE......Had this charger for less then 4 months and have used it successfully 1 time. Went to charge my boat battery (2 months old) and it would turn itself off after a few minutes on the lowest setting. 20amp & boost seem to work fine. Battery voltage was 12.1 so i left it overnight thinking it may have built in delay. In the morning it is still off and voltage had not changed still at75%. Went fishing thinking it was just to charged to add any additional charge. Got home and hooked it up and it showed 50% . still will come on then go off shortly but does not charge. Went and got my brothers charger which is same brand but not a digital smart version and it charged the battery right up. Tried to call Schumacher to talk with them. After getting lost in the phone menu i ended up somewhere with no one on the other end just advertisements. made two more attempts with no luck. I know things happen and understand. I wish someone from Schumacher would help me resolve this issue. Replaced my old charger with this. so far I'm very happy with it. It weighs a lot which is a sign of a good charger.
