  • Big and cheap. Recommended, but expect economy-tier performance and TLC durability. Recommended
Capacity: 2TB
My requirements are a little out of the ordinary, in that I needed a large capacity scratch drive that is not intended to store data beyond a few days. Before SSDs dropped to their current price point, I used 4 x 512GB Plextor drives in a RAID-0 striped array. Despite the shortcomings of that configuration, the SSDs were at least MLC. When I started to hit the write endurance limit on one or more of the SSDs, it was time to figure out what my replacement strategy was going to be... enter the SanDisk Ultra 2TB 3D SSD... It really doesn't get any more no-frills than this drive. There's no bracket, no mini CD, no cloning software... you really just get a drive and a couple minimal pieces of documentation. All of that makes sense, since this is really one of the least expensive, large SSDs available. Like most drives of this size, this device uses TLC flash. TLC is the absolute worst, in terms of durability, but it's cheap to produce. It's not published on the Amazon product page, but the durability of the 2TB device is 500TBW. Assuming the durability rating is correct, the drive should last me about 18 months (which is good enough at this price). You can download a SanDisk utility (screenshot attached to this review) to check the vitals of the device, which takes the guesswork out of estimating the remaining disk life. On the performance front, the drive is fine. It's far faster than a magnetic drive, but it's pretty slow for an SSD. Expect 85-90% of the performance of a top-flight SATA SSD (you really should be using NVMe if you want speed). However, if you want an inexpensive bulk-storage SSD, you could do much worse. ... show more

  • Failed after 1 year, Sandisk refuses to replace it
Capacity: 1TB
I purchased this drive about a year ago, and now it's constantly throwing CRC errors and going offline. Opened a warranty request with Sandisk, and they denied it because the disk is used for "continuous data logging". That's right, I write data to the SSD, therefore its warranty is void, even though it's nowhere close to the end of its 5 year term. Buy a different SSD from a company that doesn't have language in its warranty to deny every claim that comes through. ... show more

  • Never again with SanDisk....warranty claims take forever!
Capacity: 250GB
Awesome drive but I'l never buy another Sandisk product again. The warranty process is asinine and it takes like 9 days to complete the testing of the returned drive whether its under warranty or not. That's ridiculous! An RMA at most ever other big company doesn't take near as long and most just send you a new one and fix the old one since it's under warranty anyways it shouldn't matter but they took forever on my warranty procedure and then had to ship it which was GROUND and took another 6 DAYS! TOTAL BS! 15 days to return a drive I had for 3 months and just died....I'm not faulting them on that, this sort of thing happens but in the last 3 months I had to warranty replace a 128GB MicroSD card and this 250GB SSD and both times they honored the warranty but it took forever. If it's under warranty HONOR it without making the customer wait two weeks! So for that I'm giving them ONE star and never buying another SanDisk high ticket item again. Samsung took 2 days and shipped it over night when I had an SSD DOA on me. Bye SanDisk! ... show more

  • These SSDs may be fraudulent
Capacity: 1TB
I purchased two of these on Amazon and one of them failed within a little over 1-year. When I contacted Sandisk to report the failure and submit an RMA request they informed me ALL of their SSD's this model ship with a label on back indicating details important to establishing their validity. The SSDs I received did not have this sticker. Sandisk implies one must verify a legit reseller. Buyers BEWARE! ... show more

  • Saved me having to replace my kids laptop
Capacity: 250GB
Made my son's potato of a laptop start acting fast. Went from taking minutes to load Windows and like 40 seconds to open a browser, to booting very fast and the browser seemingly to open instantly. This saved me having to replace the computer. The old hard drive was a 5400k rpm drive that had a read speed of 32 mb/sec, this SSD is registering as being 324 mb/sec. ... show more

  • Wonderful upgrade, Lacking Cloning Software, Tips for Success
Capacity: 500GB
I purchased three of these to upgrade two Dell Laptops and a Dell desktop. The drive do not come with any cloning software. The small enclosed card does lead you to the Sandisk/Western Digital website. Poking around leads you to installation instructions and an example of using EZ GIG IV cloning software. I tried to use it on all three system upgrades. Each time it would not properly recognize the SanDisk SSD connected via a generic SATA to USB cable. The cloning software would display the SSD as a destination drive, you can select it but when you try to start the cloning you get an error saying the drive isn't connected. For my Dell desktop I ended up using the Acronis cloning software available from Western Digital for free. I hooked the SSD up to an unused SATA cable inside the desktop to do the cloning. When done just remove the old hard drive and install the new SSD in place of the old hard drive and reboot. The laptops were a different story. Turns out the Acronis cloning software will only work if you have a WD or Sandisk drive as the source boot drive for the cloning. They wanted a $30 software upgrade per system to buy version that would work with non-WD/SanDisk drives. Instead of that I used a free version of TODO cloning software. You will need to Google for it. I can't post the link per Amazon rules. The cloning process takes a long time if your drive has ~300 GB of usage. Mine took about 6-7 hours for the cloning process. The second laptop took about 1 hour to clone. It had about 50 GB of data one it. Once the laptop drives were cloned it was just a matter of removing the old hard drives and installing the new SSD drives. The Dell 1564 was easy to swap in the drive. The second laptop a Dell 1570 was a nightmare to do the swap. It entails taking a lot of the laptop apart to get to the hard drive. Not a task for the timid. Downloaded the service manual for the 1570 which details all the disassembly steps. You will need to Google for it. I can't post the link per Amazon rules. All three of the systems run amazingly faster now. ... show more
