I now own several generations (and 3 colors!) of Samsung T SSDs- T3, T5, T7 plus the Shield version. They've been my long-time go-to, especially as prices come down and file sizes go up. Thin-sliced from my 1st review: It's an easy-to-use and very secure little device, fast and simple to use across devices and even systems, as plugging in it opens a choice of OS and a window to log-in. The password is always what you assign at set-up, and it's hard-wired into the device, so it stays secure, requiring password every time it's first connected. Tech specs you can read. It's fast, blazing when connected to other SSD's. Gets a little toasty with huge transfers (like my 1GB initial transfer from another drive). It comes with two types of USB cables, which work well, and secure it well even if pulled around a bit on its short length. I'd note that the T7 Shield is an exception, consistently coming (in my experience) with a poorly designed connector/receptacle, nearly impossible to keep a solid connection unless you don't breathe or vibrate things when you type. That bad. I digress. This - the basic T7 (newer software interface but basically same as T5 - is one of those things that "just works". Like the others, on the Mac it may hava some small quirks - like saying it's disconnected when you first connect, or similar, but it works fine, 100% of the time for me thus far, all of them (knock on wood). Unless you really truly like the idea of the ridged design and heat-dissipation of the Shield, I'd advise against it (I called Samsung, they said they'd send a new cord, and didn't, and claim not to know about the port/plug issue). That off my chest, I love and swear by the T5s and T7s, and caveat emptor on the Shields. ... show more

I like to have standalone storage for backups and specific purposes — like graphics files, music files, and other things that take up lots of space. I found this 1TB Samsung SSD, and the price was right, so I got it. This was about 2 years ago, and I have had absolutely zero problems with it — even though it's been disconnected many times without shutting down or ejecting it first. When it comes to storage technology, fast, long-lasting reliability is key, especially when it's a great price (I remember when price was measured in dollars per kilobyte). I bought 2 of the 2tb drives. One for all of my files (pictures, music, documents, etc) and one for a backup copy. Now if my laptop dies all my files are still ok. It works great. Seems plenty fast. It’s compact and looks nice. It didn’t get overly hot even when transferring all of my files onto it. I’ve had it for a month now and I’m very happy with it. Got this on a sale, coming from the t5 which I still use. This is noticeably slimmer, I can’t report on the speed as I don’t really do tests in that manner. Technology that I don’t notice to me works the best because it slots into your workflow without giving pause. Doing as it’s supposed to. Same metal feeling finish, it’s a usb c drive, still works as a storage drive for Blackmagic cameras. Still comes with a USB c to C and USB C to A. Is still reliable and fast ... show more

Small form factor and light weight as against conventional external HDDs. Good write and read speeds and the built-in encryption program is an excellent plus. A little pricey as compared to conventional external HDDs, but the features tend to justify the higher price. .

I bought this to store all of my plugins for music production as well as completed client works. The plugins alone can be several hundred gigabytes, and some musicians get into the terabytes. It's an SSD and it's fast and small. This little guy spends most of its days connected to my M1 Mac Mini in my equipment rack. Word of warning to Mac users: This drive comes formatted as exFAT. If you want to get the most out of it and don't plan on connecting it to a Windows machine, format this drive to APFS. If you're a Windows user, you might want to reformat it to NTFS if you don't plan on hooking to a Mac or Android device ... show more
