The drive is labeled as 'Samsung', (as advertised) but Windows reports it to be a 'JMicron Tech' drive. Also, I did not see the advertised Magician 6 anywhere. If it was on the drive, it would be useless since the drive installation process required me to initialize it.

    • Why did it fail in less than a year?

I had high hopes for this drive, having had an earlier one in 1TB. This one made it just over a year before failing spectacularly and causing me no end of grief. My first one is still humming along after three years, though now in a less critical role than it was originally. My assumption is that the newer one just had a glitch and died in it's youth. Considering what it cost, and that I am left holding the bag, I am not particularly happy. I tried the Samsung site to see if there was a refurb/recover or goodwill replace remedy, but didn't see one. Lotta sales pitches there, a labyrinth of rabbit holes. Very disappointing. ... show more
