  • Good option to easily replace stock 1TB HDD in Dell XPS 8910 but order M.2 screw separately
Capacity: 1TB
After seeing how easy it was to replace the stock 1TB HDD in a Dell XPS 8930 with a slowly dying HDD by a 980 Pro using Samsung Data Migration, I decided to install another 1TB SSD in one of our older home computers, a Dell XPS 8910 that also came with a 1TB HDD. I could not, however, justify the cost of the 980 Pro on the XPS 8910, so decided to go for the 980 which is much cheaper, aware that the 980 unlike the 980 Pro does not have its own DRAM buffer and is therefore slower. The 980 offers the same 5-year warranty as the 980 Pro which was my primary requirement. I pretty much followed the same process as for the XPS 8930, but this time had a M.2 screw handy. Opened the chassis. Put the new drive in the M.2 slot. Screwed it to the standoff that was already on the motherboard using a M.2 screw ordered separately. Booted from HDD. Installed Samsung Magician and Data Migration tool using the Integrated Installer, but as on the XPS 8930, they did not see the new drive right away. Rebooted Windows once. Then somehow Samsung Magician and Data Migration tool could see the drive. Launched cloning which took just under two hours. After that the PC turned off by itself. Unplugged SATA connector from old HDD. Turned on PC which automatically booted on new drive. As on the XPS 8930, Samsung Data Migration tool did not clone my Outlook .OST file. I came to the conclusion that it relies on Windows Shadow Copy / Volume Shadow Copy Service which Microsoft has decided should not be backing up .OST file (although allegedly the registry subkey OutlookOST controls this behavior), so after I opened Outlook, my emails were not there, and it took a few hours for my mailbox to resynchronize with my ISP (we're talking multiple gigs of emails accumulated over a decade) and I lost my Outlook rules. I wish Samsung Data Migration provided some warning about this questionable behavior. Switching from HDD to SDD makes Windows and programs start much faster and I think it is worth it now that SSD prices have gone down, at least when it is so painless to do so. ... show more

  • 500GB and fifty bucks is worth the price
Capacity: 500GB
So I purchased the 500GB knowing it’s not gonna be optimal for gaming. That’s okay I plan to also put in a larger SSD in the future alongside this one. I got this solely to boot the OS on my PC and since I have done it this way it has gone soooo much quicker. It’s working great I have no issues with it and mine does not run hot, however my motherboard came with a heat sink for these SSDs. That being said for fifty bucks for the 500GB one is great. And If you’re gonna pop them in a laptop I also think that it’s a viable option. I have an HDD right now I’m thinking of getting the Samsung 870 next. I think I’ll stick with the Samsung products they seem to be doing well. ... show more

  • Great price for the capacity.
Capacity: 1TB
It's good. I get 3550 Mbps read 2770 Mbps write. Runs hot but not insanely so, make sure you have a way to get air circulating around it and you'll be fine. Note that if you're coming from a system already running an SSD, you will NOT notice any difference between this and your current SSD. I didn't buy this for the neat transfer speeds or the PCI-e bus, got it mainly to replace my 6 year old 250gb Samsung 850 EVO because the capacity is now too small for my needs. It was just the cheaper option for the capacity and there's honestly no difference booting from this or my previous SSD that isn't synthetic numbers being higher than the other. So unless your current SSD is failing and you need a replacement or more space, go for the cheaper option you can afford. ... show more

  • My old laptop was slow now it feels like new
Capacity: 500GB
I bought one that was "like new" it was written on it already 1 TB, but for the price difference it was worth it. Very easy to install. It takes a little bit of knowledge to transfer all files and clean the old drive and use it as a secondary. My laptop is 4 years old and it was getting too slow. Add this and upgrade the ram from 6GB to 16GB and now it runs like new, it is as fast as any new laptop. For reference, this fits on Acer Aspire E5-576, if you want to make sure it works for you just "open your laptop" and see if you have the port for NVME ... show more

  • Works great for slightly older computers
Capacity: 1TB
This was perfect for my computer that’s a few years old. If you’re building a new machine, this is PCI-E 3, and you may want PCI-E 4. But if you don’t need PCI-E 4, this is a great value.

  • Just popped it in my LG gram, easy install, fast
Capacity: 1TB
I had not issues using migration software to clone my 256 in my new LG Gram to this drive. as we all know installation is 99% getting the case open which in my case was easy. I ran all the speed tests and integrity tests I could find and this passed with flying colors. Very happy

  • OMG it's FAST!
Capacity: 1TB
Put it in a Dell Latitude 5941 to run Linux. Installation was a cake walk. Just remove 1 screw and it fits in like a memory chip. Instead of 100 MB/sec for a platter drive or 500 MB/sec for a 2.5 in SSD, this M2 runs at 3,000 MB/sec. I'll never go back to a hard drive again!

  • Great upgrade for my HP Pavilion Plus 14 laptop
Capacity: 1TB
This Samsung 980 SSD worked perfectly to replace a 256gb M.2 that was factory installed by HP. The most difficult part is opening these newer laptops up. Once I got it open swapping the M.2 out was easy. I used some cloning software to image the drive and expand the data partition. It worked perfectly. The speed is really fast. I used the Anker PowerExpand M.2 NVMe to help clone the HP SSD, it made things easy. ... show more
