This is my 3rd Samsung SATA SSD that I have purchased. I have a 860 and 870 in my custom desktop that I use as mass storage drives and those have been going solid for 3 years now. This particular SATA drive I purchased to upgrade my laptop that I’ve had since 2012. My laptop came with a 7200 RPM HDD and I ended up increasing capacity with a 5400 RPM HDD back in 2017 - talk about a much slower experience. I’ve been wanting to use my laptop for its CD drive but the slow speeds are too much for my impatience. I finally got around to cloning my HDD. Samsung’s Migration software makes it super simple to do as long as you have the cables to plug in the SSD to a USB port. There are different kits you can buy to do that. I had about 280 GB of data on my laptop (deleted about 600 GB worth prior to this) and it took about 45 minutes or so to clone. Not bad since you can just click and walk away once it gets going. Once installed, it almost feels like I have a brand new laptop. Boot speed is seconds to go from off to logging in, a task that would have taken a good 5 minutes before. Opening programs is snappy, and even things like browsing the internet have improved. While my laptop is still limited by 12 year old hardware, installing this 870 SATA SSD has given new life to what has been a large paperweight. I highly recommend the 870 if you’re looking to speed up an old laptop or use for storage in place of a mechanical HDD. I have found these to be very reliable, and I plan on buying a 4th to install in another old laptop ... show more

As far as the packaging goes it came as the SSD box with no extra cushion or any other shipping box or bag, so be careful about that. Overall the product does exactly as says, I did this for the first time for my gaming PC and it was super easy literally plug and play, and then format it in!

This was a cheap solution for a PS5 console recovery drive, PS5 recognized it and copied system files quicker than an hdd. I have found these drive to be great solutions for quick picture and video backup devices. Couple these types of drives with cheap Ugreen or Sargent enclosures and you are good to go for a wide range of backup possibilities that will easily fit in your shirt pocket.
