  • A little hint for those who are not the best with diagnosing problems.Wow what a fast drive.
Capacity: 250 GB
Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB M.2 SSD (MZ-N5E250BW) Installed in a Dell Inspiron i7559-2512BLK 15.6 Inch FHD Laptop (6th Generation Intel Core i7, 8 GB RAM, 1 TB HDD + 8 GB SSD) NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960M First I want to say, I am no computer guru, but I am someone who will teach myself when needed. That said, I installed the drive in the M.2 slot and then restarted my computer. I then used Samsung's migrating software, to clone my HDD. I then tried to find the drive in the file explorer, thinking it would recognize it and differentiate it from my 1TB HDD. Turns out that it makes an exact copy, and they both become the C drive. Because I'm not great with computers, I had to figure out what to do. I'm sure there are plenty reading this, who know the ins and out of this, and will probably think this is a simple problem. Not for me..lol After looking for the drive, worrying I broke something, or didn't put the drive in right, turns out its a simple fix. All you should really have to do is right click on the window icon on the very left corner of the screen, the start menu, and a list will pop up. Just go to disc management and you'll see a box come up showing both drives. One of the drives will probably be offline, all you have to do it put it back online by right clicking the little icon on the left box showing the partitions. There is even a little red danger icon next to it when it's offline, so you shouldn't have trouble finding it. When I cloned it with the Samsung software, it automatically made the new drive the main c drive and shut off the old HDD, and I got a disc signature collision error. I don't know if your computer will do the exact same thing. but that's the fix if it does.Everyone's computer and situation will be different, but if something similar happens to you, Hopefully this helps you. I'm sure this has probably been discussed in the comments here, but as i have not read everyone, i'll add it in case. I now have my OS system and music recording software on my SSD, while my HDD is my D drive to save pics, music and such. You can change which drive windows will save things to by going into settings, then system, then under storgae. The speed of this drive has been talked about in most all the comments, and it is super fast. It takes more time to type my password in then it does to start, 5-10 seconds and you are ready to go. This drive is a no-brainer, and I don't know why they are still using 5400rpm drives in 1000$ computers, or really any computer now. I did want to add, after some reading about reviews and such on the various M.2 SSD drives, I found out that the Samsung 850 EVO M.2, has a turbowrite feature that is not even in their pro EVO line. So, it makes this drive one of the best to buy right now, and priced pretty much in line with all the other brands, but is a faster drive, at least that's what the review said. Awesome drive either way, get it! ... show more

  • Schmookin' Hot
Capacity: 250 GB
I started in computers when we loaded the OS from reel-to-reel tapes. Then came the Tandy (Radio Shack) "PC" that loaded from cassettes. We often went on coffee breaks waiting for programs to load. We all knew that computers would be faster some day but I don't think any of envisioned something like the Samsung 850 EVO 250 GB M.2 SSD. This drive is really sensational. Certainly beats the 8" floppies we once used! I was lucky when I selected a Gigabyte GA-Z97X-UD3H (Rev 1.2) motherboard as it comes with the pesky screw pre-installed to hold the drive in place. For those of you who are planning on purchasing this drive, it shouldn't be too hard to find the screw. Ace Hardware, if there is one near you, usually has a good selection of metric screws. If not, one of the big box stores often have the right size. It shouldn't be too hard to find locally. Installing the drive couldn't be much easier. Just slip it into place and replace the screw. These are small screws so don't over tighten it. I was using this drive in a new build with the above mentioned motherboard (and I really like it), an Intel i7 4790k processor, and 32 GB of RAM. I also have two 1 TB Western Digital drive in raid for data storage (the SSD is only for the OS and programs that must be installed on the C: drive. When I build a new system or replace a boot drive I always rebuild the system. Migrating the system often brings along obsolete software or drivers that can eventually cause problems. I also have a WD 4 TB drive for long term data storage. I'm not telling you about the hardware to brag, it is just to give you an idea of the components working with the 850. I am using Windows 7 Ultimate and the system boots almost instantly. A friend timed it at 7 seconds. Takes me much longer to type in my 21 character password (I'm not paranoid, I just like long passwords) than it takes the system to boot. This drive is silent, doesn't vibrate, runs cool, and is just schmookin' fast. Saving data happens faster than it takes to press the "Save" icon. I use Linux Mint 17.3 on my other computers but I have to use Windows on this one because it is in my ham shack as the majority of ham software is written for Windows. Unfortunately, my ham shack is in my garage, and being in northern California, the summer temps can be in the mid 90's in the garage. My processor is water cooled and I also have several case fans and a memory fan. This little drive stays right at room temp and never slows down. I am extremely happy with this drive and I consider it a good value for the money. There may be faster drives but you won't be able to tell the difference. ... show more

  • Quality SSD Fits my Lenovo Yoga 2 13.3" Laptop's M.2 Slot
Capacity: 500 GB
Turn my Lenovo Yoga 2 into a speed demon. The computer I upgraded is a Lenovo Yoga 2 13.3" 2 in 1 computer with 4 GB of RAM. When I bought the computer, I didn't realize the RAM wasn't upgradable. Even worse? This very nice computer uses an oddball 2.5" hard drive connector. It's an extra slim hard drive that uses a connection different than your typical SATA style connection. However, I discovered on the Lenovo forums that my computer had an empty M.2 slot. This is the memory expansion most often cited on that forum. Do your homework and you can probably find other manufacturers who make a similar size at a better price, but for me - it was worth the extra $20 to put a quality piece of memory into my primary laptop. You'll need to provide your own screw for locking down the memory card. The back of the computer is held on by 12 screws, two magnets, and you'll need something like a guitar pick to break lose the extra closures. I used one of those 12 screws for holding the card in place. Sure, that means the bottom of my case is held on by only 11 screws, 2 magnets, and the snap-together closures along sides, but I believe I'm in a good shape. (I will be replacing that screw, but I also think it's a bit of over-engineering by Lenovo.) There wasn't any software included with the memory card. Also, you'll need to be able to access your system's BIOS to turn the card on. If you've formatted an internal hard drive, this could be intimidating for some. Do your research or make sure you have a techie friend to help you. The physical installation of the memory card is the easy part. The transfer software you need is available via a download from the Samsung website. I didn't time how long it took to mirror my old hard drive, but I'm guessing it was an hour or two. Now I have two hard drives in my sweet laptop. One is SSD, so it's fast and has improved the battery life immensely. ... show more

  • Fast, cheap, easy: pick any 3
Capacity: 250 GB
Turned an Acer Aspire E15 from 'nearly unusable out of the box' to 'stupendously fast for a bargain laptop' in about an hour. The physical install and cloning the HDD were the easy part, getting it to boot from the SSD was a bit harder to figure out since it's not as easy as changing the boot order in the BIOS anymore. EasyBCD turned out to be the solution for that. If you haven't run on an SSD and you're on the fence about it, it's night and day. I've been using MacBook Airs with SSDs for years and going to a brand new laptop with HDD after using a six year old one with SSD feels like trying to run from monsters in a nightmare. It's amazing how much faster everything is with solid state, and it's very difficult to go back to spinning platters. None of that reflects on this particular SSD brand or model of course; it worked right away and did what it's supposed to do. Rating SSDs or RAM is like rating a screwdriver; if it does its job at a decent price, you tend to forget about it. That's probably the best thing I can say about it: it was easy to install, priced well, didn't catch fire or explode, and made everything faster immediately. I wouldn't have given it a second thought if I hadn't seen the review reminder, honestly. And if I hadn't ordered it, I wouldn't have seen the review reminder because I'd still be waiting for this thing to boot. ... show more

Capacity: 250 GB
Revision I install this almost a year ago now and I will tell you this, it's still running fast still running durable still running incredible you do need to make sure you get the right software updates to utilize full potential of this drive. No one will tell you that in the beginning but as you proceed, you will see the difference in the speed I have wiped my drive several times and reinstalled everything several times and I get the same results. Excellent boot times are extraordinary and for the price I got the drive for I would pay twice that amount and as a matter of fact, it's almost twice that amount now a little less than twice, but it has gone up substantially since the time I purchased the first one. I do wish I would've gotten something larger than 250 GB, but even today. It is a great deal. My secondary drives are mechanical drives but they do a great job as my storage drive and with this M.2 drive as my primary drive I get all of the benefits of the faster speeds in my operating system and you also have to take into consideration that there are faster drives them. This out there. I could almost say that there 30 to 45% faster than this one you'd have to check on the exact numbers but I know that there are faster drives than this. Not that I'm looking to get a new drive to replace this one yet but they are out there that will cost you but cost performance ratio. I thought this was the best deal and it proves itself to me every day. ... show more

  • So far, i love it lol. So far, i love it lol.
Capacity: 500 GB
Very small form factor 22x80 SATA3 SSD drive (mainly for laptops), but 500gb a bargain at 19X.xx dollars. Gives me plenty of room to put windows and many games on the SSD that requires speed. I will give a more thorough review after i finish installing it on my Acer V Nitro black laptop. Update: it's installed, i rebooted the acer, and it shows 850 evo ssd as a disk drive device, and it's in the bios. So far good news. I downloaded samsungs latest cloning sw, and it detected my 1gb hard drive and listed it as an evo 850 ssd, then it showed my target as the 500gb evo 850 ssd lol, so it was confusing at first, but i knew it was doing the right thing because the hard disk was 1tb, and my ssd was 500gb. So it's cloning now. Acer laptops aren't the easiest to upgrade, takes some courage, but not that bad. I also upgraded my network card to intel's 7260 AC ngw card. It works great in my Acer VN7-791G. Now if i get the ssd up, my system will be pretty hot. Update2:since my acer laptop had a wd 1tb hard drive, i was able to download the acronis tools, from WD website. It allowed me to clone my hard disk to the ssd perfectly. The samsung sw was faulty. Wouldn't work right, i tried twice. The acronis sw clone tool, worked the first time. The scary part is going to regedit and changing the D: ssd drive to C: and vice-versa. Not really scary, but if your clone sw didn't work, you end up with a dead laptop. I was able to get my drive back to C: and reclone with the acronis and now my SSD is drive C: and boots as fast as i press the on button. Pretty cool, my laptop is running perfect now. I added a crystal mark jpg to see what speed i'm getting. ... show more
