If you have an AZ Patio Heaters or HiLand branded HLDS01-CGT, this is a welcome improvement. It is a well thought-out and very direct replacement for the heating and control elements of the heater. Despite a lot of great reviews online, I always struggled to get our HiLand heater lit and/or keep it lit. It is an attractive appliance, but the pilot light feature made for a non-trivial startup process, and lately the one we have has refused to stay lit, unless kept at its lowest setting. I was looking for replacement parts when I stumbled across this option, which I have to say is a nice upgrade. First, it bolts right in. It is also a lot simpler. This replacement has no pilot light "feature" - just put the knob in the high position and poke the ignitor button. What a relief! It works as I expected this heater to, to begin with. Lots of heat, easy to get going, and it stays lit. It was as perfect an aftermarket replacement as I've ever seen. To swap it in to an HLDS01-CGT, bring 10, 17, and 19mm wrenches along with a #2 phillips screwdriver - the latter just to get access to the hose fitting on the original burner. Shut off the gas, of course, first thing. Tilt the original over (thanks, Amazon, for providing a perfectly-sized box to support it horizontally), and remove the wingnuts, heat reflector, and the hardware holding that on. Remove every Phillips-head screw you can see to get at the gas hose connection, then use the 17 and 19mm wrenches to disconnect the hose (mine was super-tight). Now you can get rid of the old burner, and connect the hose to the new one, bolt it up to the pole, and put that heat reflector back on. The result had a very high wife acceptance factor. While I had been shopping for a straight-up replacement in hopes that it would at least stay lit at higher settings, now I've got something that takes a lot less effort to light, and also stays lit. The swap takes less than an hour, even for an old man like me.

The heater comes with 2 stainless steel collars/couplers/fasteners (didn't need either for my model). Installation was quick. A couple points to notes: 1. If you're replacing the heater assembly you might as well order replacement hardware (screws/nuts/bolts) that includes the posts to secure heater to the top diffuser. 2. Consider replacing the 60" propane hose as well. All in all completely satisfied with this product.

Better alternative than buying parts and trying to figure out why your old heater assembly won't work anymore. Heater heads seem to be basically the same so this product is a better and cheaper alternative to buying a new heater.

Best solution for heaters. No pilot light.

Installed easily. Works well. Still new, so nothing to say about durability. Three bolts are needed to attach the top-hat reflector. No bolt fits. Needed size is in between 1/4" and 5/16". In between 7mm and 8mm. Success after tapping the embedded nuts to 5/16", coarse thread pitch (18 tpi)

I was able to replace my old rusted out heater head with this in about 3 mins. it comes ready to install. Now we are back to having a warm heater to knock the chill out of the air on the deck.

Honestly, it works great. But it does not hold up well. The outer shell has literally melted down in just one season. It has hole you can stick your thumb in. And has wrinkled down so much, it's an inch shorted than original size. Please choose another option
