  • Awesome Cordless Trimmer, Would Buy Again!
Powerful motor and cutting abilities, very easy to assemble (for someone used to assembling things, otherwise the "instructions" are lacking) and string is long-lasting and stronger than previous strings I've had in other trimmers. Fully charged battery only lasted 30 minutes instead of the 1-hour advertised on the box, but I did put it through some tall/thick grass challenges. Will probably last longer for folks who trim the same area every week. Automatic string dispensing works so far. Weight was as expected and definitely manageable. Very easy to use and I like the safety/power button/switch setup, can control with one finger. So far, this trimmer has worked well against concrete and cinder block wall as well as chain link fencing. Has also worked well in tall grass where mower can't reach. I am about 5'6" tall and would not want a longer version of this trimmer, it is borderline too long for me but no complaints about that. Definitely tighten the guard down with a screwdriver or it could pop loose. If you want a good trimmer that isn't going to take forever to cut through your grass/weeds and you're trying to avoid using gas trimmers because you're frustrated with starting issues and maybe their weight, this Ryobi trimmer is a great one to put to use. It works so well that I'm actually looking forward to trimming again and I have plenty of trees, roadside ditching and fencing to trim around. I'm tempted to buy another one even though I don't need more than one. This is the 3rd cordless trimmer I've purchased because I went the less expensive route. So now I own one good cordless trimmer and 2 cordless headaches (but less of a headache than the gas powered one). ... show more

  • Great Ryobi

  • A robust, well powered trimmer. This is no toy.
Let me preface this by saying I've owned a variety of gas, corded and battery trimmers over the years. My other battery operated trimmer is a Worx 20V and has taken care of most light work. The Ryobi is a 40V so it's not a fair comparison, but comparatively, it's a beast. The battery lasts several times longer with the same lawn and edging work. Running nearly continuously, I blast the many weeds out of the cracks of a 50ft driveway, trim the edges of a 1/2 acre lawn, clear the footpath, trim around the gardens, and have made only a small dent on the battery. The power is not quite up to most gas powered trimmers, but is at least as powerful as the smallest of them. I gave up on mixing the gas/oil, draining the tank after use, winterizing, etc. In the end, most won't reliably start anyway. I love plugging in the battery and trimming in seconds, all without giving the neighbors a headache. My only beef is that the unit is a bit heavy; something expected with a larger battery. It feels like my gas models but has no shoulder strap. A half hour into use, my hands are really feeling it. I'll put two belts together and fashion something that works. All in all, I'm very pleased with the Ryobi trimmer and already own their 40V blower. I think I'll begin a collection of tools that share the same battery. Cheers! ... show more

  • Battery operated weed whacker works well
I like my new battery operated Ryobi weed whacker. I have used it for the first time now, and I can make the following observations. The battery lasts a good long while, and recharges quickly. The power is almost as good as a gasoline powered weed whacker; my previous one was a gas powered Ryobi, which finally started leaking excessive oil after many years of use. I only gave it four stars because it cannot take the Weed Warrior plastic blade attachment, which attaches with a bolt, and which I preferred to use on the old gas model. The new electric one has a complicated way to attach to the string trimmer head attachment, and I can’t figure out how to replace it with the Weed Warrior trimmer head. Otherwise, it works pretty well. ... show more

  • DID NOT LAST 2 SEASONS.
Died after one season. The battery was an issue at first, then got a new batter and the motor smokes. I GIVE UP. TRASH I will not give them any more of my money. Going for a Stihl.

  • Best electric trimmer ever!
I am very satisfied with the 40 volt Ryobi trimmer. It works great and I can complete all the trimming I have to do on our 3/4 acre lot with one battery charge and there will be about 25% charge still in the battery when I am finished. Ann if I need to do some additional work with another attachment, the battery will charge back to full capacity in just over 1 hour. I was surprised at the power this trimmer has. It's every bit as powerful as the smaller gas trimmers. And the weight makes it so much easier on my back. It just weights a little over 9 pounds. I'll never have another gas trimmer again. I'm happy with my Ryobi 40 volt trimmer. ... show more

  • Cordless, ergonomic, powerful....need I say anything else...
I own two acres of land.. The battery with-standed all the edging to get the job done. It is a little top heavy, same thing you can expect from a gas powered unit. I'm 6'4 and found the length super comfortable and spot on. The power is impeccable and comparable to gas powered units. If you want a cordless (that speaks for it self ~ PERK) and powerful trimmer you can't go wrong. Disclaimer: I bought the RYOBI 40 volt battery operated lawn mower and have only great things to say about that, so I had to give this trimmer a try. Not to mention the 18v leaf blower and circular saw. All of RYOBI's battery powered-brushless products have met or exceeded my expectations! So I might be a little bias. But for <200$ battery included, you can't go wrong. ... show more
