Ryobi 40-volt cordless stringer- female friendly.
Great string trimmer for a woman or someone older. Weight is good and not cumbersome, and it is easy to use. I purchased an additional battery to use as well, and I am glad that I did. Battery easily charges when the other one runs out of juice. I still wish it held a slightly longer charge, but where I used it was pretty grassy in height and there were blackberries, and ferns. Battery charge lasted about 40 min. Thus, buy a second battery. ... show more

Ryobi 40 volt weed eater
The Ryobi 40 volt weed eater worked great, and so easy to use. So much better than a gas one.

Weighty Weedeating
This unit includes power unit with battery & charger, enabling attachment of Ryobi accessories like brush cutter. Changing attachments works well after a few struggles, meaning you get a solid fit. Power adequate for heavy weedeating. Feels weighty at first, so use shoulder strap provided. One extra string refill provided, so need to buy refills, either bulk or precut. ... show more

Good purchase, but I didn't know what I was getting.
I ordered this trimmer because I was tired of my also owned gas "Weedeater". When I printed out the receipt, it read "used - nearly new"! I thought I had bought a new one. I didn't know what to expect when it was delivered. It came in an unmarked carton from "American PH", with the separate items placed individually in it. The "Quick Assembly Guide" was missing, and when I went on-line to source one, none of the numbers I had matched those on the website. I then figured out the assembly myself. As for the condition of the trimmer; it did look nearly new, although there were "dig marks" on the insert end of the front power head shaft. I learned later, it was also missing the short plastic item used as a "hanger", as well as some additional line which comes with a Ryobi "new" purchase. Beyond that, all was well. Later, when I was able to use the trimmer, it performed better than I had expected. It handled easily, and the weight was not excessive. I trimmed tall grass around a 120 by 40 foot pond and the charged battery lasted that long. In the end, so far I'm impressed with my "new" trimmer, and pleased I bought it. I only wish the purchase details vs what, and how I received it had been more complete. Be fully aware of what you're really ordering. ... show more

Keep looking
Used it 2x, missed the opportunity to return it (on vacation)… Engine gets to hot & drains battery, I switched the battery, using 1 I know is good & it drained that 1 too. Don’t waste your money.

Awesome Cordless Trimmer, Would Buy Again!
Powerful motor and cutting abilities, very easy to assemble (for someone used to assembling things, otherwise the "instructions" are lacking) and string is long-lasting and stronger than previous strings I've had in other trimmers. Fully charged battery only lasted 30 minutes instead of the 1-hour advertised on the box, but I did put it through some tall/thick grass challenges. Will probably last longer for folks who trim the same area every week. Automatic string dispensing works so far. Weight was as expected and definitely manageable. Very easy to use and I like the safety/power button/switch setup, can control with one finger. So far, this trimmer has worked well against concrete and cinder block wall as well as chain link fencing. Has also worked well in tall grass where mower can't reach. I am about 5'6" tall and would not want a longer version of this trimmer, it is borderline too long for me but no complaints about that. Definitely tighten the guard down with a screwdriver or it could pop loose. If you want a good trimmer that isn't going to take forever to cut through your grass/weeds and you're trying to avoid using gas trimmers because you're frustrated with starting issues and maybe their weight, this Ryobi trimmer is a great one to put to use. It works so well that I'm actually looking forward to trimming again and I have plenty of trees, roadside ditching and fencing to trim around. I'm tempted to buy another one even though I don't need more than one. This is the 3rd cordless trimmer I've purchased because I went the less expensive route. So now I own one good cordless trimmer and 2 cordless headaches (but less of a headache than the gas powered one). ... show more

Ryobi 40 volt string trimmer
POWERFUL! Seems to me to be more power than my corded Black and Decker. It is a tad heavy at times. The purchase of a shoulder strap can help some. It is so far a bit awkward to maneuver due it's long shaft, but that may be just the learning curve of a old man. Overall, cuts my time required to edge considerably. The 40 volt , 4 ohm battery gives enough time to finish my front yard , recharge to do the back, but at 75 in Houston area heat and humidity, I only do front and back yards on seperate days. The battery supplied 40 volt 4 ohm is smaller than the batteries, 40 volt 6 ohm which came with my Ryobi mower. ... show more
