  • Awesome Cordless Trimmer, Would Buy Again!
Powerful motor and cutting abilities, very easy to assemble (for someone used to assembling things, otherwise the "instructions" are lacking) and string is long-lasting and stronger than previous strings I've had in other trimmers. Fully charged battery only lasted 30 minutes instead of the 1-hour advertised on the box, but I did put it through some tall/thick grass challenges. Will probably last longer for folks who trim the same area every week. Automatic string dispensing works so far. Weight was as expected and definitely manageable. Very easy to use and I like the safety/power button/switch setup, can control with one finger. So far, this trimmer has worked well against concrete and cinder block wall as well as chain link fencing. Has also worked well in tall grass where mower can't reach. I am about 5'6" tall and would not want a longer version of this trimmer, it is borderline too long for me but no complaints about that. Definitely tighten the guard down with a screwdriver or it could pop loose. If you want a good trimmer that isn't going to take forever to cut through your grass/weeds and you're trying to avoid using gas trimmers because you're frustrated with starting issues and maybe their weight, this Ryobi trimmer is a great one to put to use. It works so well that I'm actually looking forward to trimming again and I have plenty of trees, roadside ditching and fencing to trim around. I'm tempted to buy another one even though I don't need more than one. This is the 3rd cordless trimmer I've purchased because I went the less expensive route. So now I own one good cordless trimmer and 2 cordless headaches (but less of a headache than the gas powered one). ... show more

  • Better than previous models
Had an older model. This one is really simple to put together and runs really strong. I would buy backup battery so cuz it's dead in about 30 to 45 minutes.

  • Serious junk
This is the biggest piece of junk i have ever purchased it takes me about 15 minutes to do my trimming and the battery won't even make it halfway through and one trip around the yard trimming grass and light weeds uses an entire spool of string and all this for the low low price of $200 i wish there was a way to give negative stars ... show more

  • This Ryobi weed eater was Great until the motor smoked and failed
I Enjoyed the power of this line trimmer and the ease of its Line threading system. The 4 AH batteries only lasted 30-45 minutes only. I only got approximately a dozen uses of this unit, until the motor started smoking though? At first, I came across some "passing the buck" when it came to requesting a replacement or my $ back. I contacted Asurion, (as I purchased a 3 year protection plan). They said I had to contact Ryobi manufacture. I contacted them and they said I had to contact the "Seller". I purchased this on Amazon but I had to contact a "seller" by the name of "Kakuni". I was worried this might be a foreign company? I reached out to this "seller" and got a response back promptly and had a Great Associate by the name of "Josh". This "seller" appears to be in the Seattle WA area btw. Josh was very Understanding, Professional, and an Associate that cares about a Customers Concerns. He asked me to send back this line trimmer (with their Return label) and they will refund me the cost I paid for it. This Amount of Customer Service ended up Satisfying me ... show more

  • A robust, well powered trimmer. This is no toy.
Let me preface this by saying I've owned a variety of gas, corded and battery trimmers over the years. My other battery operated trimmer is a Worx 20V and has taken care of most light work. The Ryobi is a 40V so it's not a fair comparison, but comparatively, it's a beast. The battery lasts several times longer with the same lawn and edging work. Running nearly continuously, I blast the many weeds out of the cracks of a 50ft driveway, trim the edges of a 1/2 acre lawn, clear the footpath, trim around the gardens, and have made only a small dent on the battery. The power is not quite up to most gas powered trimmers, but is at least as powerful as the smallest of them. I gave up on mixing the gas/oil, draining the tank after use, winterizing, etc. In the end, most won't reliably start anyway. I love plugging in the battery and trimming in seconds, all without giving the neighbors a headache. My only beef is that the unit is a bit heavy; something expected with a larger battery. It feels like my gas models but has no shoulder strap. A half hour into use, my hands are really feeling it. I'll put two belts together and fashion something that works. All in all, I'm very pleased with the Ryobi trimmer and already own their 40V blower. I think I'll begin a collection of tools that share the same battery. Cheers! ... show more

  • Solid
Used it mostly for trimming poison ivy that grew out of control. Still works. I'd buy it again.

  • Lite weight works well
Very satisfied. It is lite and easy to handle. Bought another battery that was larger. I had a universal ledger and it adapted fine
