Description
THE POOL SENTRY is used to maintain the water level of a pool, spa or pond automatically and unattended. When the Pool Sentry is removed from the box, it is easily assembled by threading the fill tube into the float valve. Snap the fill tube and float valve into the base and fill the base with small rocks or pea gravel. Next, snap the top cover onto the base and attach the garden hose (not included). Finally, adjust the float to the desired position. The supply water stays on at all times when the Pool Sentry is in the pool. As the float drops, the water turns on. When the float reaches its set height, the water shuts off. The customer can adjust the float to any desired level, usually a point halfway on the tile line or skimmer. Because the hose is under constant water pressure, it is essential that the customer uses a heavy-duty, reinforced hose. A flyer in each box offers customers an aftermarket hose. It is rated to 200 psi working pressure and 750 psi burst strength. The Pool Sentry works with a pool water level that is 2 to 8" below the pool deck surface.

So far so good - working well to maintain the water level of the pool. This does have a somewhat narrow range (meaning the window between when it turns on and off is not very large - if it drops about an inch, it will turn on). It has been working for several weeks so far with no issues. When the hose was first attached there was a very minor drip at the connection, but we used a little bit of white plumbers tape and then reattached the hose and no drips at all.

Very simple to use: fill with rocks to weigh it down, attach the hose, and adjust the water level. I knocked off one star because there's no way to clasp the two parts together, so inevitably someone will try to move it and spill rocks everywhere. A "lock" feature for the water level would also be useful so that someone doesn't accidentally change the water level setting. This happened to me once and I accidentally overfilled my pool. It's kind of in the middle of the way since you need to run a hose to it, so other people will end up moving it. That said, it does what it's supposed to do really well so your pool will stay full.

This fill valve is garbage!! 3 units in 5 years, they don't last long. Floats do get stuck and are unreliable, but ALL 3 units had to be returned for the same problem, and I am returning my recent purchase from 2 weeks ago for the same reason: The intact hook up threading is too shallow and will not thread onto a hose easily. They come stripped out or you will strip it yourself trying to connect your hose to it. AND IF... you do.... remember 3 purchases every one returned means I've had 6 of these..... and IF you get one sent to you that DOES thread onto your hose.. the thread well isn't deep enough to be on tight enough and it will always leak. I had 1 that worked and didn't leak for year but that was it. Tired of returns, tired of new one sent and IT STILL CANNOT THREAD on a hose, try different, new hoses, bought a special brass connector once.. hose threaded on it, it threaded into unit, but again NOT tight enough and leaked all day every day. NO MORE. The Pool Sentry is junk, DON'T BUY IT. I am ordering a different one sold here on Amazon, will try it instead. Won't mention its name, you can find it, I am an impartial homeowner and user of 3, actually the latest one makes 4 that I am now returning... in 5 years. Rola Chem needs to better design for easier sliding of float and better, deeper input well for threading on hoses.

Can't beleive any pool builder would build a pool that would require you to use a water hose to keep your pool filled on a regular basis, duh! But this little guy is a true savior that removes the headache of constantly monitoring and filling the pool not to mention possible over filling. I live in Arizona and the summers here are hot so evaperation is constant, but not a problem with this simple yet effective gadget. Works on the same principle as your toilet tank filler. I can just imagine the light that went off in some persons head that figured this system out. It's takes 5 mins to put together, I do recommend connecting a good quality dependalbe hose that can endure the elements of all day sun exposure like the "Zero-G" hose or the "RV/Marine white/blue hose ", which iI have used for years now, both great products. Since the hose stretches from the spigot to the edge of the pool, You may want to consider putting some orange paint or tape on the hose so people see it and don't trip over it. Note: YOU MUST PUT SOME PLUMBERS TAPE AROUND THE "THREATED" PARTS (2 OF THEM; ONE ON THE HOSE AND ONE ON THE UNIT) OR YOU WILL MOST LIKELY HAVE A LEAK! The plumber tape takes care of that issue perfectly. Now turn the water on and it should start to put water into the pool. With the pool water level already filled to the mid point of the skimmer openning, I used some tweezers to grab the hard to get to white stem that adjusts the shut-off point by pulling it up and turning it counter clockwise until it shut off. I did put some farely good size rocks inside the box area to weight it down. Lastly, I make sure my hose is straight so theres no tension to cause problems. that's it check it once or twice to make sure no leaks and filling correctly, then forget about it (well maybe check it from time to time)! I can't say enough how it has taken the stress and worry out of whether the pool has enough water 24/7 especially if you aren't home for a few days, because if the water level gets lower than the skimmer opening, your pump will run dry and burn it up. I saw another post on here that gave it a terrible review I just can't beleive given my experience which this product which includes it hasn't been abused by kids, dogs, mowers etc.

Unit seems to be built well and looks nice. Too soon to see how the plastic holds up in the sun. Uses a simple mehanical concept similar a stock tank water float or some toilet float type valves. Level is easy to set and Fills the pool as expected. However when the unit is not flowing quickly, i.e. water level about at height to close the valve and flow is decreased, there is a very annoying "hum / whine" for about a minute or so before flowing stops. Was quite startling at first sound almost like a alarm siren or horn. Not sure how to remedy the problem, changing valve position dosen't seem to help. FYI I added the inline hose shut off at the rear of unit so I can shut filler down from the pool when swimming, and removing the valve also did not affect the noise. Refer to the attached video with audio.
