Gift for my 12 yr old. I had a feeling she would like this and I was right! She's killed her little egg or whatever it is that she takes care of a few times, but thankfully it respawns, lol. Sound can be turned on and off, that's a plus. Bought the one that has rainbow colors.

  • 4/5 for the Product, 1/5 for Amazon
Color: Sakura Pattern Name: Tamagotchi
TL;DR: The listing doesn't indicate that the product would be in any condition other than "brand new in box," however I received an "Amazon Renewed" unit. Screen was scratched, battery was depleted, reset button had pencil marks. Clearly someone played the game and then returned the product. Full Review: As someone who was a kid in the late 90s and early 00s, I played a lot of virtual pet games on the internet. I also had a few of Tiger Electronic's Giga Pets, but I never owned a Tamagotchi. I recently picked up a few vintage Giga Pets: Digital Doggie units, as well as Top Secret Toy's Pixel Puppy 2018 reboot. My love for the toy genre rekindled, I decided I should try the game that started it all. I ordered the Gen 1 Sakura Tamagotchi variant, and received it in less than 24 hours. The box was in relatively good shape, with some creases and an "Amazon Renewed" sticker sealing it closed, stating "Thanks to you, this product has a new life" or something of the sort. Funny, nowhere in the listing is the product I purchased described as "used" or "renewed." That was fine with me, as I collect old toys and consoles and even refurbish them myself. I popped open the box and pulled out the Tamagotchi. The screen displayed an angel and had a lot of scratches on it. The back had a yellow sticker with "ARI" printed on it (Amazon Return Inventory?). The reset button was marked with pencil. Great, someone played with the Tamagotchi, killed the critter, and returned the toy to Amazon. Whatever, we've all done it. That's not enough to stop me from truly giving this toy a new life. I took the toy apart, cleaned it, and put it back together again (seriously, how did the previous owner get hair behind the display lens??), and began my Tamagotchi parenting experience. I'll make this part quick. I think I prefer the Giga Pets toys, mostly because the controls are more intuitive and the care feels more realistic. Maybe it's because you're raising a dog (cat, frog, etc.), but I feel like the required care frequency and responsiveness to interaction are more natural. I also am not too keen on the fact that the Tamagotchi's "play" interaction is a luck based game. The display on the Tamagotchi is difficult to see, even in the sun, due to the domed and reflective screen lens. The display on even the old Giga Pets is high contrast and visible at all angles, even in dim light. Despite this, I love this little guy. There's something inherently nostalgic about Japanese toys from the 90s, even if I didn't experience this one the first time around. I like the variety of characters your Tamagotchi can evolve into, and the new printed shells are so pretty. The toy is compact and light, which is a plus over the 2018 Giga Pets as well. It's unfortunate that my purchasing experience wasn't ideal, but I am overall happy with my Tamagotchi. The product is good, but buyer beware when purchasing from Amazon. ... show more

  • Perfect water bottle attachment - Take care of my pet, take care of myself!
Color: Sakura Pattern Name: Tamagotchi
I saw the TikTok idea to attach this to a water bottle to remind yourself to drink water. I thought this was a fantastic idea, so as a 32-year-old with a full time desk job, I took the plunge. I spent about $20 on mine. I do think it's more appropriate as a $10-15 purchase, but I don't have any regrets. This reminds me to take care of myself by drinking more water and getting up and taking walks throughout the day. I'm only on Day 3 with my little guy - so far, so good! ... show more
