I’ve gone through my fair share of wooden nesting boxes over the years, and while they look nice at first, they always end up being a nightmare to keep clean and eventually rot out. I decided to give this Rockever plastic 3-compartment setup a shot, and it has been a game-changer for the coop. The Pros: Sanitation is a Breeze: This is the biggest selling point. Being waterproof plastic, you can literally just hose the whole thing down or wipe it out in seconds. No more scraping dried mess off of porous wood. It keeps the mites and smells down significantly. Solid Construction: Don't let the "plastic" label fool you—it’s thick, sturdy, and has some decent weight to it. It doesn't feel flimsy when the hens are hopping in and out, and the gray finish actually looks pretty sharp. Spacious Compartments: The three holes are plenty big for standard-sized hens or even ducks. There’s enough room for them to get comfortable and "do their business" without feeling cramped. Weatherproof: Since it’s waterproof, I don't have to worry about moisture from the litter or a leaky roof ruining the unit. It’s built to last a lot longer than traditional lumber. The Results: It took the girls about a day to get used to the new "real estate," but once they realized it was a cozy, dark spot to lay, they haven't looked back. I’ve noticed fewer cracked eggs since the floor of the box is level and holds nesting material in place well. Bottom Line: For $130, it’s a bit of an investment up front, but the time saved on cleaning and the fact that I won't have to replace it in two years makes it worth every penny. ... show more
